How many of 'em were half-baked themselves?

Sgt. Bill Guimont said most of the motorists told deputies they didn't notice the Gingerbread Man in the crosswalk in front of Rainbow Springs Elementary School.

"I just thought the drugs were making me hallucinate again, officer"

I know there's a lot of controversy over using growth hormones in livestock lately, but are your typical elementary kids reaching five foot tall these days?

Looks like about half the sixth graders are:  http://www.chartsgraphsdiagrams.com/HealthCharts/height-2-20-girls.ht m l http://www.chartsgraphsdiagrams.com/HealthCharts/height-2-20-boys. html 5 feet = 60".

But yeah, you'd think going with "4 feet" would have been more effective in making the point, too.

Was the motorist's name Linda?

My thoughts are that the mind tends to reject the incongruous elements in a scene, so the gingerbread man would register so briefly, and then be rejected as "not really there, must be my imagination"

If the cop had dressed as a normal plainclothes citizen, I'm sure he'd have been noticed more

Step 1: Put on crazy ass ginger bread outfit.
Step 2: Run out in traffic
Step 3: Cite drivers for 'not yielding'
Step 4: Profit.

I probably wouldn't stop of I saw a giant gingerbread man running at me. I don't need crazy in my personal space, and very few sane people dress up in gingerbread costumes and run at cars. In fact, nothing good as ever come from a guy in a gingerbread costume running up to your vehicle.

You don't have to reject it just misinterpret it as an ad on the side of the road.  One of the underlying cause of car vs motorcycle is that car drivers are looking for cars and their brain filters out the motorcycles.

To be fair, a big part of stopping for pedestrians is the non verbal clues you get before they cross.  You have to differentiate between the clowns who stop and chat by the crosswalk with no intention of crossing, and those who cross.

I remember seeing video on an officer who stepped out into a crosswalk and got hit by a driver obviously who wasn't paying attention.  Also obvious was that the officer did not look both ways before crossing.  Whether you're on two feet, two wheels or four wheels, NEVER assume that cross traffic will stop, even if they are legally required to.

I've only been to one place where people just step out into the crosswalk or bolt across through a crowd of people walking on the sidewalk (late for class?) In both cases the kids seem to have a habit of not looking to see how far away cars are. That was the University of Missouri campus area, throughout that whole damn area you have to pretty much assume that they want to step out and have you hit them. I gu

FTA: the costumed deputy walked back and forth across a Moreno Valley crosswalk for about 50 minutes

Take the ticket to an unbiased court and counter-charge the officer with 'interfering with traffic flow'. 'Obstructing traffic'. 'Being a general ass by playing in the street for shiats and giggles'.

/A crosswalk is designed to allow people to cross the road to get to a destination.
