Thanks for that. Sounded like bullshiat to me. Though I was thinking maybe she used a plastic container for the microwaved water and something leached out of the plastic.

Oh, and from the Snopes link this is from 2006.

It was a government false flag operation

What they did is they entered the home late at night and replaced it with a dying plant.

Why? Simple

Nuking water makes fluoride multiply. They would have gotten caught if they didn't shiat all over this brave young girls patriotic science experiment.

Should ask people from the south to help. They are the experts of disenfranchisement.

They were smart enough to understand that African Americans didn't have the intelligence level to make rational choices. They did it because they knew they were doing them a favor.

/I know many throw that around as a joke (stupidity tests for voting rights), but those who say it wholeheartedly are no better than southerners.

Jesus, that made my brain hurt. Just saw a couple of doofuses linking to it on Facebook...

Some things wrong with it:

1.- DNA? We don't care about the food DNA... We don't do anything with it and we're eating the food after it's dead, so...

2.- "Microwaves agitate the molecules to move faster and faster." Uh, do you know what "heat" is? It's molecules moving faster and faster...

3.- "This movement causes friction which denatures the original make-up of the substance." As does regular cooking. Heat in all its forms gradually denatures the nutrients of the food.

4.-  "These things that are not found in nature." You mean, just like aspirin and tons of medicines? Like computers, maybe?

I've been microwave free for at least five years.  Food just tastes better when it doesn't come frozen out of a box and is ready in 10 minutes instead of five.
Now when I'm at work I'll admit to cracking open a can of ravioli and nuking it from time to time, but more often I'll still throw it in a pot and warm it that way.

It's not the microwave, it's the mind controlling chemicals in the prepackaged food.  Don't tell me that you don't notice things after eating HCFS.  The random thoughts about how bad things are, the desire to vegetate and watch local news.  Oh yes, the HFCS is a GMO that makes you susceptable to the mind control subfequencies that the local news stations have been pumping out.

Don't believe me?  Turn off the TV.  You'll quickly find you're less paranoid.  I turned mine off years ago.  Now all I watch are shows online and on channel 6.3 in Boise TNN is broadcasing country music again.  Older stuff, texas country, red dirt country.  I'm not afraid anymore.  I've seen what the HFCS can do to people.  It's scary stuff.  Too much of that and you'll start believing in chemtrails and other nonsense.

I don't understand this anti-microwave fad that seems to have been growing in the past few years. I cook a lot, and I'm quite skilled at it, but with the SO and myself both in grad school and working full-time, it's a necessity to have ready to cook meals on hand.

When I have the time I'll turn on the range, heat up a few pans and skillets and cook, using herbs, vegetables and peppers from my own garden. But mostly I don't have the time. And now it's like the new hipster fad to rally against microwaves because they imply suburban complacency and convenience or something like that.

And to the people saying "well, food tastes better when done on a range, naturally, so microwaves are harmful":

It's not really about the method (although there is some effect, but not really negative) but about the time. Yeah, tons of food require low heat and slow cooking and it won't taste the same either if you nuke it or if you flame broil it at high heat.... So no, microwaves aren't doing anything harmful to your food, just decrease the power and slow cook instead of nuking it for 3 minutes and calling it a day.

There IS some effect, like I said, and that's due to some dishes requiring different reactions. You can't really get a maillard reaction from a microwave. Or classic condensing, so yeah. Also have you thought about the fact that using a range is not the key point, but the fact that you use oil and pre-heat it first? Food reacts differently if you put it in contact with already hot oil than if you cook the oil and the food together from the start.

Microwaves aren't for everything, but people who hate on them due to some bullshiat conspiracy theory are just delusional.

Microwave ovens have more uses than reheating frozen TV dinners.  You can quickly boil water or reheat leftovers.  Putting potatoes or yams in for a few minutes significantly reduces baking time in the conventional oven.

On the other hand, most microwave ovens suck at making instant popcorn.  Most either burn the kernels are leave too many unpopped.  Just easier to get some oil and pop it over the stovetop.

Aspirin IS found in nature.

I'm not saying the article has merit here, but watch your citations.

Technically, yeah, but you can't find base acetylsalicylic acid floating around. It has to be synthesized from plant-extracts through chemical means. OMG there's two big words, "synthesizing" and "chemicals". The nature hippies will go nuts XD

Oh wait, they'll just blame the side effects of aspirin on the fact that it's a scary chemical.

Plus by that logic, cocaine is also natural, thus not harmful. As is uranium, heh :P

That website is great.
I just learned that the Israelis are responsible for Fukushima:
http://usahitman.com/tnwaeaf/
So there was no 9.0 earthquake because 9.0 earthquakes destroy everything in a 1000 km radius, the Tsunami was man-made, hydrogen explosions are too weak to damage reactor buildings and the Israelis used Stuxnet to fark up the reactors because the Israelis were worried that the Japanese are helping Iran to get the bomb.

/okay, that was filed under "Lies&Hoaxes", but in the context of that site I'm not sure if that category means "articles that are L&H" or "articles that expose L&H§

Well, sort of. That's like saying Morphine is found in nature because opium poppies made into tea will get you high.

/The best kind of correct?

I'll take it one step further and say Heroin is natural. Because heroin is just morphine that has been metabolized by the liver.  So every person on morphine is a walking (using the term loosely) illicit drug manufacturer.

You can give them to me, and I will lord them over you in an anti-luddite situation.

And then I'll have two tvs, and two microwaves. And all I need is one more of each

Smeggy Smurf: It's not the microwave, it's the mind controlling chemicals in the prepackaged food.

You've been watching too much KTVB...

GhostFish: Kind of sad that the information age has brought an apparent rise in quackery.

We demand that people be open minded, but we don't demand critical thinking skills.

And ultimately we end up with a bunch of people who consider themselves to be brave, independent thinkers - who want the rest of us to "open our eyes" and "wake up". But in reality, they're the most blindly inept and easily lead schmucks out there. They fall for all the basic cons of quacks, hucksters and carnival barkers.

Makes me feel like we're all the butt of some mildly sadistic joke by greater forces.

Just like organisms, cons have evolved so that the most successful ones have been handed down to each new generation of win men. We are no smarter or better at critical thought than our ancestors and the cons they fell for will work today. And just like the internet has made it easier and more efficient to do most work it has made it easier to win people.

Information age man is no better or worse than bronze age man, we just have different tools and skill sets.

gingerjet: A microwave is a tool. A pot is a tool. The fact that you feel all hipster by stating you don't use a microwave is actually quite sad.

I'm waaaaaay too old to be a hipster.
I think a big part is that I grew up w/o a microwave and learned to cook the old fashioned way. I think we got our first microwave when I was a teenager.
Regardless, a microwave oven uses radio waves which as radiation goes, shouldn't be confused with the products of decay.

The fact that you think taking the easy way out is just retarded.

You didn't offend me. It's just the way you wrote "why does anyone need a microwave" as if to say if you didn't need one nobody should.

I'm in the middle of remodeling my kitchen, entire thing is gutted at the moment. Everything I've eaten in the last month was either microwaved or cooked on my George Forman grill.

Well, it's just from my perspective. I can understand using one if you don't have access to an oven, but I just haven't found a need for one. I guess I do have a gas oven, so that might make a difference. It's just that if you do have an oven there isn't anything, I can think of, that an oven can't do just as well as a microwave...provided you have an extra 10 min.

I really meant it as an honest question, but I can see, as this is the internet, that it could be viewed as a snarky remark.

The whole reason I bought the Forman grill was for burgers. I love home made burgers but the top of the stove always gets splattered in grease when you use a frying pan. Of course I cook all kinds of things on it now, best 50 bucks I ever spent.
