Yes. I'm Hungry!

Fade2black: fusillade762: there their theyre: How can that person even lift their ARM like that. Has to have been taken in a hospital after the wound had been cleaned.

Or it's fake.

Or it's gangrenous and therefore devoid of all nerve endings and blood, thereby rendering it...*gasp* dead!  Ignorance and stupidity should be painful.

Sure. Because in the history of the Internet there have never been fake photos posted anywhere.

2013-09-27 09:43:29 PM

WhyteRaven74: enik: It's on the amazingly deep and widely-respected io9 website, so it's obviously true.

Considering this drug has been reported about in the media for a few years now? io9 is late to the party.

Not only that, the article's author is really reaching to blame America:

FTFA: To summarize: while searching for a less addictive form of morphine, we found a way more addictive form of morphine.

Pretty sure that's how we got heroin in the first place...(Checks Wiki for Heroin)
Yep. JFC Robert T. Gonzalez, it's called research. Try it sometime.

/Took me five minutes to verify that, max

Dear God. I don't think of myself as an especially squeamish person, but when I scrolled down the pics were so shockingly graphic I screamed involuntarily.

The shiat people will do to get high >_<

Admit, you never heard about the magazine before you checked the wiki for the drug.

Yeah. That.

Ok, so I'm the most squeamish person I know. I can't see a needle, dissect a worm, or even see cgi internal anatomy without getting light-headed and/or passing out. Yet those pictures didn't really bother me. What gives? Is it the lack of fluids?

Maybe. The lack of fluid is actually what is bothering me, so I guess it could work the other way too. I think for me it's the idea that if blood isn't running, than you're even more farked than if it was.

/would be related to the whole if you can feel pain at least you aren't dead concept

Drugs like this are a healthy dose of chlorine in the gene pool.

2013-09-27 10:57:17 PM

MadameX: If that's an honest question, here's an honest answer. I know it's a bit graphic, but I hope this helps explain what happens.

Thank you.

Duck_of_Doom: How is all that exposed bone and leftovers not a putrefied mess of infection?

If not blood, that's what I was expecting to see. It all looked so dry and clean, like they'd already cleaned it out. Maybe they did for the photo op. It just seemed to surreal, like it came from a good makeup studio for a zombie film. Maybe I'm just disillusioned by Hollywood.

What scares me more than anything is that that I looked through that page, saw the photos, went "Meh, that's icky but certainly no worse than..." and listed of a number of diseases, afflictions, and worse looking Bad Things (tm) that can happen to people in oogy or unusual circumstances.

And I'm an IT guy, not someone in health care or somesuch that would normally see that stuff.

I had the same reaction.  Partly because of lack of fluids, partly because the people look so calm and not in pain, partly because they look like something out of a zombie movie.

Few of those things involve activities people do voluntarily, for fun. Krokodil has been around long enough that its effects are known and easily discoverable and yet it remains a marketable substance.

/I know "Yeah but..." followed by a bunch of faces of meth pictures but that's from chronic long term use. This stuff can destroy healthy tissue on the first spike.

Not a wuss here... Promise.

Between this shiat and the post a week ago about the dog killed by the python (or boa?), fark needs to do some soul searching. Reporting is one thing. These pictures are nearly the stuff of ogrish.

Just post pics of naked women next to half dead kids over and over. That'll bring 'em in.

I can take the gore. The nudity tends to be very nice. It's just not why I come to Fark.

One man's opnion.

This is another reason why I'm glad I never got hooked on drugs.

I cannot imagine being so desperate for a high that you'd risk your flesh rotting off your body. That's just all sorts of mentally screwed up.

Wait until they discover Sisa (NSFW). Think the worse aspects of bath salts, meth and inhaling battery acid combined.

there their theyre: How can that person even lift their ARM like that. Has to have been taken in a hospital after the wound had been cleaned.

Probably, but it looks like she (he?) has only lost about half the muscle. Granted, that's all of the muscle on one side, but it's at least semi-plausible that there might still be enough to hold the arm in that position.

Nasty shiat, krokodil is. Though I question whether or not the stuff that originated in the US can really be called krokodil. The active ingredient is the same, but it sounds like the US-original version doesn't have the skin-melty, flesh-corrody crap that gives krokodil its trademark side effects.

Yo, Brainsick, that's the best Welcome to Fark EVAR.

2013-09-28 03:09:23 AM
So after reading that article, I simply did a GIS for "krokodil."  I'm not sure which is the most disturbing:

1. The pictures themselves.
2. The fact that I can look at those pictures and just sorta go "huh.  That's interesting."

I think I may be a psychopath.

This is why you manage drug abuse as a social health issue, and not a crime. Sunshine is the great disinfectant.

2013-09-28 04:00:16 AM
I rode an a metro car one time that had this guy on it that stank like nothing I'd ever smelled before. The car was full, but everyone else was crammed into the opposite side from where this guy was sitting. After trying to figure out why he stank so bad, I noticed his arm was rotting. Like farking actually rotting. It's the only time I've seen evidence of it in Moscow, as I think it's a more rural and Siberian ghetto thing, but fark, it's real and disgusting

2013-09-28 07:01:21 AM

Strolpol: I can't see this catching on in America like it did in Russia. This isn't really a desirable drug; the only reason it has a market is because Russia has a lot of heroin junkies who don't have much money.

Krokodil is the drug that you do when you're flat broke and hitting rock bottom while suffering heroin withdrawal because you can't afford it.

Yep and it is made from hydrocodone pills which are way harder to get and more expensive than heroin in the U.S.  My sister's estranged husband is a junkie and recently switched to heroin because it is cheaper to get and easier to find than the opiate pain pills which initially got him addicted to opiates.  Dude is a worthless piece of shiat, but I am pretty sure you have figured that out already.
