2013-09-27 02:59:10 PM
Didn't the GOP run in 2012 against Obama for cutting Medicare?

What he said.

They were pissed off that Obama was saving Medicare money.  I guess  Medicare went from dangerously underfunded under Obama to obsolete.

Next, if this brilliant plan works, they're gonna monkeywrench it again until Social Security gets piratized, too.

End Medicare and outlaw abortion or no debt limit increase?

Now they are just trolling.

DamnYankees: Didn't the GOP run in 2012 against Obama for cutting Medicare?

Yes. And before that they punted Ryan's budget because they were getting hammered by seniors who didn't want their Medicare cut.

They have gone completely insane.

2013-09-27 03:07:15 PM
When you use a reality bubble to fire up the base, and keep it up long enough, you'll get a crop of politicians who actually believe the propaganda.

See also: State legislators actually trying to ban abortion instead of keeping it around as a wedge issue.

Guys guys
Stop
Just stop it

Now, I understand that there's no end to the stupidity of teabaggers, but I can't find where anyone but the Salon writer is saying specifically that they're holding out for Medicare privatization.

Maybe they're just praying for a miracle?  Or they could say that's what they were doing and then cleverly turn it around on their constituents with my favorite "you didn't pray hard enough" schtick.  Then the GOP-holes can look like the put-upon and start waving their victim cards around again.

I'm not sure you meant that word...  but it works oh so well.

2013-09-27 03:08:29 PM
Note they might still introduce the bill, but they admit they can't currently convince a large enough group of their caucus that a one year delay in Obamacare, implementation of Paul Ryan's tax plan, and undoing a large number of environmental and banking regulations is enough concessions on the part of Democrats (if they agreed to it) to agree to not let the United States default and they need to make it more conservative than that.

Pretty good summary of the situation:

There is a certain logic here. Why would the most conservative Republicans settle for forcing Obama to implement Mitt Romney's platform? They thought Romney's platform was too timid in the first place! They were willing to vote for figures like Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich, not to mention Herman Cain and Michele Bachmann, as an expression of their dismay with Romney
.
Now, it may seem a little silly to insist that Obama accept an agenda that was too extreme to prevail in a Republican primary. But if you're already insisting that Obama accede to an agenda that was too right wing to win a general election last November, at this point, what's the difference?

2013-09-27 03:08:35 PM
But guys! The GOP is just making the TEENSY TINY request that Obamacare is defunded! It's the only thing they want!

What happened to that talking point, I wonder.

At this point I may never vote Republican again in my life time.

This is like watching that scene in 2001 where the monkeys start murdering each other in front of the monolith, except the monkeys are Republican lawmakers, the monolith is this bill, and they're furiously masturbating instead of fighting.

Privatize medi-care and social security to Wallstreet, so they can embezzle the Trillions of dollars.
Then they demand a bailout every decade or so because the money magically disappeared.

I think "Obama refuses to compromise and is the cause of the government shutdown" is elevated to canon by now.  No lie-brul facts can touch it.

Think of all that sweet, sweet Medicare money going directly to Wall Street. If you still have any doubt about a carefully-coordinated conspiracy to suck all public money into the hands of a few people, you're beyond hope.

True....he's saying though that the current proposal isn't good enough, and in order to get more support from the hardliners such provisions might have to be included.

All Obama has to do is resign and let Romney and Ryan take over. Is that too much to ask?

The senoirs will greet the GOP with flowers for this. They will love you forever for it. Just move a little bit more to the right. Yes, right on top of that third rail. Good.

One of the many big problems right now is that, other than getting rid of Obamacare, it's not at all clear what the hell the GOP even wants.

Fark it, let's just blow past this debt ceiling thing and be done with it forever.  Let Congress sue.  It's statue law against the Constitution itself, let's see who wins.

Sure, read/thought this when the push was to privatize SS (and then the market tanked - and the banks)

I confess - don't understand what the hell is going on anymore and just watch the tea party and ask "who benefits"?  Starting to wonder if there IS a GOP anymore.

Ahhh the Tea Party once looked at as the savior of the GOP is now destroying the party.

That's what happens when you stick your wick in crazy folks.

That and the Tea Party started out as a manufactured cause for ratings by FOX News and Glenn Beck and helped Financed by the Koch Brothers. Now the monster has a life of its own and has hijacked the party

I don't think it IS a conspiracy (at least, Congresscritters aren't a part of it) - they actually believe in the cause. They think privatizing SS and Medicare will benefit people, bless their hearts.

I would really like to hear one of our local conservatives explain why y'all want to default on our debt.  I mean if not defaulting on the debt is the thing that the Republicans are willing to give up to get everything else that they want they must really want to default.  They are basically saying that they want one of two things, they either want to default or get every other terrible policy that they have made into law.  This is no way to govern at this point the Republicans have lost all legitimacy they should be ignored and we should find a way to move on with out them.
