croesius: "Speech and language disorders, or SLDs, affect patients' ability to communicate through speaking or writing, rendering them unable to come up with words, produce sentences with correct grammar or articulate properly "This is one of the main reasons I have always been a stringent proponent of harsher performance scoring of teachers. The liberal education system seems to dish our tenure and grant money like it is candy, irregardless of whether or not a teacher is suffering from the inevitable loss of there brain functions. Just think how much more our children will be learning if we were fully able to identify and remove these poor souls, while giving them complete and total respect for their service to our nation, and make room for the new generation of teachers, who are having such a hard time finding positions in our overcrowded education system.
ornithopter: I see noone RTFA. It says they are probably just more likely to NOTICE they are having problems with language and get diagnosed. Not to actually have the disorder.
fickenchucker: ornithopter: I see noone RTFA. It says they are probably just more likely to NOTICE they are having problems with language and get diagnosed. Not to actually have the disorder.Notwithstanding this dose of logic and fact, does this mean my brother is going to be a slurring mental case? The idiot is the text book example of "those who can do--those who can't teach"./He was drummed out of both the Milwaukee and Racine Public schools--two of the worst in the state.//Hard to take a shop teacher seriously who nearly cut off his patella with a circular saw.//Rule of three.
Unhip1: Having taught public high school English 14 years, I can say the following:1. I developed allergies that were so inflamed by my work environment that I almost developed asthma.(The allergies haven't gone away, either)2. I can no longer read for long periods of time (handwriting or print) without having to take long breaks.I used to look forward to reading -- not so much now.3. Whereas I was once a confident speller/editor, I continually second-guess myself now, which gets in the way. Same with oral communication: I either take longer pauses to go over what I'm about to say, or stumble mid sentence.
