Have fun guys, I'm sure breaking off a bunch of rural underdeveloped counties to form a new state will go really well for you.

I think we should help them secession or as I call it, deportation.

It seems they only want to secede from California, not from the USA, and become a 51st state. Though that seems impossible according to the constitution, which the link in the article says that no state shall be created from another state.

Still, I wish 'em well. I think you should split up. You'll all be much happier. Put the liberals in one, the conservatives in the other, perhaps with a middle ground country for people who are undecided.

Slaxl: the link in the article says that no state shall be created from another state.

It's "no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress."

So, you *can* form a new state, you just need to have approval of the legislature and congress.

You retarded monkeys.  You can leave the country, you don't get to take it with you.

Take your conservative retarded selves to somewhere more fitting to your mindset, like Iran or Somalia.

I've read these articles and have determined that a group of 80-100 people want to cecede from California.  I believe mostly because they would get a Representative and two Senators, but lose all of the subsidies that California gives them.

hmm.  maybe they can get extra money by selling their water supply.

2013-09-27 03:13:39 PM
Old news. And it may have actually happened 70 years ago had WW2 not broken out.

2013-09-27 03:14:27 PM
Dangit, and here I was getting my hopes up that the article would be about vast numbers of right-wing assholes leaving for Somalia or something.

It's fairly common for people living in rural environs to imagine that all of their tax dollars are being sucked up by welfare queens, gay homosexuals, illegal immigrants, and corrupt "urban" politicians.  It's basically another form of pandering, but one that resonates with the rural population.

If this were to pass, the distribution of gas tax money would hit the hardest.  There's really no sense in building and maintaining roads that very few people use and service little industry.  Consequently, those regions will become even poorer.  Staying in Commiefornia is really the best thing for the residents of Beaver County, though you can't really tell them that.  You have to tell them that Commiefornia needs them more than they need it.

2013-09-27 03:16:43 PM
They don't like gays and non-Christians and brown people and anyone not just like them, so they're trying to take their ball and go home. Except, they have no ball: like the vast majority of red states and counties, they take far more from the government than they put in.

So let them secede. Because I want to hear these hillbilly assbags try and justify their request for a bailout in 2 years.

2013-09-27 03:16:57 PM
Any portion of a state that wants to secede should have to live for ten years without any tax revenue from the remainder of the state they are leaving, then make their decision.

People like that need to believe that there is someone lower on the economic and social ladder than themselves.  That's why they need someone to despise.

There is more history to Jefferson that that little snippit.  About seventy years ago, they wanted southern Oregon and northern California to be the 51st state.  Wasn't actually a horrible idea given how OR and CA are governed and distributed.

Just what we need. Another low population backwater getting completely disproportionate political power in the form of two senators.

Tell you what, you want to secede? Okay, we'll suspend taxation in your counties, but you don't get any more funding for anything.

Run your independent countries on whatever tax revenue you can scrape up within your country borders.

2013-09-27 03:50:36 PM
Actually, splitting Cali in half, North/South makes a lot of sense. Not the way they want to do it, of course. But they really are two very distinct regions that could potentially benefit a lot from such a split. Discuss.

I want to see this happen and fail just so it can be a lesson for every traitorous moron in the nation.

Unless as part of the deal, Puerto Rico gets statehood as well, or some sort of DC statehood/representation in Congress.  But that would require compromise, and that's, well, yeah.

Still, unless the movement grows much, much larger than it has in the past (Wikipedia), it would be a state smaller in population than Wyoming.  2 senators for 500,000 some people is ridiculous and if we're going to talk about a state of that size, we need to talk about proportional representation in the Senate too.  Which is a very hard conversation while tiny states have disproportionate power..  Which is why this will probably never happen.

This is still California and Oregon we're talking about, even if it is the more "conservative" parts of each.  I don't know that they'd be safe GOP, though they'd be more competitive than those states currently are.

Seriously, how is THAT going to work? Have people who say they're going to secede/make a new state/get in a boat to go to some third world island in the Pacific/etc. actually thought their clever plan through?

Several states had tried to break apart into different states, because of conflicting political beliefs in different regions.

I kind of chuckled at Maine breaking into Maine and North Massachusetts.

They'll have to get in line.  Coloradans are getting rid of our tax leaching under developed gun loving rural counties first!
