I admit, my experience with carjackings is limited to Grand Theft Auto, but doesn't the would-be carjacker need to target the car either in front or back of the line? Otherwise, how is he going to get away?

I think they mean options for escaping from Newark.

Always leave an out. If for no other reason, the car in front of you may break down. And always wear your seat belt so angry Negroes can't pull you out of the car.

Do people not lock their car doors?

2013-09-27 04:21:43 PM
There's only a few neighborhoods in Newark where you should be stopping at red lights at all. For most of the town, just slow down, check both ways, and floor it the fark out of there.

Always take a club when you travel.
I have four guys in my automatic weapons club.
I always take them when I travel.

Car doors tend to have windows. Windows are made of glass. You do the math.

Some do, but almost all have windows.

Yes, but discreetly with their elbows, when they see a negro approaching.

Was given this advice when renting a car in Miami once.

2013-09-27 04:24:15 PM
Uh, that taught that to me in Driver's Ed back in the 1980s, and it had nothing to do with carjacking.  It is just common sense to leave yourself enough room to get out of there for any reason.

2013-09-27 04:26:00 PM
Fark that. If some one tries to get in my car, I'm gunning it. I don't car if there's a car in front of me. I have insurance.

But that's pointless speculation because I keep my doors locked always.

Keep about a million car lengths from Newark and you'll be fine.

Bingo.  Never ever enter Newark for any reason and your life expectancy will skyrocket.

I think it's sad that we've basically written off chunks of some of our major city and handed them over to the thug life.  It's like we have little pockets of small third world countries right in the middle of our cities.

Democracy in action.
The people who live there either want it, or they are too afraid or apathetic to do something about it.  Blood of patriots & tyrants and all that...

/damn, but I'm crotchety today

Good basic rule. Always leave enough room to get around the car in front of you without backing.

(I was always taught that you should always be able to see where the tires of the car in front of you touch the road)

2013-09-27 04:34:20 PM
the best way out is to have a gun in your right hand.
ok it gives them a way out!

Also applicable in Camden.

I don't know about car jackings, but I remember that Allstate commercial about insurance fraud, so taking it as an example, someone could run a carjacking operation where a accomplice pulls in front of the target car blocking it from taking off, but moving out of the way as quickly as the jackings done.

Ah, the velociraptor entry point theory. As to the glass; safety glass shatters into a million tiny, very sharp pieces.

/ I was told that there would be no math

When in Camden, don't stop for stoplights. Or pedestrians.

Yep. I've been doing this bit since I was 16. I'm not afraid of being carjacked because A) my car can shiat and git and B) Criminals are notoriously bad shots. I also keep a close eye on my mirrors and side to side infront of me when I'm stopped in traffic. Maybe it'll help keep me from being carjacked some day.

It allows anyone with an elbow a way to get to the driver/occupants.  As to your comment above about safety glass, side windows aren't made from it.

Point being, a locked door does not protect you from being car jacked.  Thus, leaving room to escape is a good idea.

Red lights are also like stop signs.   Stop or slow down and go through.   I had a cop yell at me for stopping at a red light there at night.

Windows can be opened from the outside using bullets, or the butt of the gun.   Its a carjacking, after all.  Violence is part of the fun for some of the people involved.

Great, travel advice in parts of America now resemble travel advice to some third world arm pits. But to be fair there have always been places like that in the US of A (I am looking at you East St. Louis)

There are portions of old South Dallas like this. I drove through it once a while back and it blew me away that I was still in the United States. It looked sort of like a Mexican border town but if half had been burned down and abandoned. People just milling about and slab after slab of foundations where some sort of building once stood. My wife, a DFW native, says there are neighborhoods around Fair Park ( SE of downtown Dallas ) that are even worse and she "doesn't feel all that safe" there. If she says that then it's absolutely no place for a white boy like me heh.

I have to go to Newark on Monday. Luckily, I'll be driving my police car and will be armed.

Still...

I leave room to maneuver in traffic simple to allow myself to get out of the way of an approach emergency vehicle while everyone else just sits there and panics.

Blaming the victim. How about we tell carjackers not to carjack.
