Not that she'll win.  But hopefully her running will put a spotlight on the Ted Cruzesque nutbags so more people can see exactly how crazy they are.

A Democratic female Texas governor? I love me some Wendy Davis, but I just don't see that happening in Derp Central.

She'd have a better chance of being crowned Queen of England.

Well, we know your position on abortion. What else ya got? I'm listening.

Are we suddenly living in the pre-Bush, pre-9/11, pre-Tea Derpers era again? That's awesome!

Why didn't anybody tell us??

She would be ineffective as a governor of Texas. This only happened cause Texas wanted to restrict abortion.

2013-09-27 09:35:33 AM
On one hand, I wish I could vote for her. On the other, there's no way in hell I'm moving to Texas.

Her seat will probably go to the right since the district was gerrymandered to her out. I think she had a better shot at Lieutenant Governor and could have done more there to stem the derp tide

Texas has been swinging purple pretty heavily recently. Couple the groundswell of support for her and the apathy the GOP is going to be in after this debt ceiling fight (one way or another, part of the GOP is going to be furious at the other part and the infighting brawl will spill out into the streets) and there's a chance. Not a big chance, but it's possible.

I was confused, I was picturing the girl from the Wendy's commercials... i'd stuff her ballot box  The Wendy's girl...

2013-09-27 09:43:47 AM
It's not outside the realm of possibility even if it is an uphill climb.  She has national name recognition; the last several people to run for governor of Texas as Democrats couldn't be picked out of a line up by most people.  As long as she has plenty of money to run a campaign she'll have a shot.

Plus, her likely opponent, AG Greg Abbott, might be a bigger f*cking asshole than Ted Cruz and Rick Perry combined, and there are a lot of voters in this state who are really fed up with their bullshiat.

I like Davis and all but... good luck with that.

The whole "the Latino vote will turn Texas blue!" thing is a pipe dream of the Left.

Came here to say this, more or less.

She won't win, but she might get the GOP to say more Mourdock or Todd Akin type remarks that hurt them on the national stage. One can only hope

I didn't think the governor of Texas did all that much to begin with, other than the killing people business.  Can't be any worse at it than Bush or Perry.

Yeah, but somehow I don't see her opposition making rape jokes  in front of the entire press corps while the national narrative is actually semi-pro-feminist.

This ain't the progressive 90s, the right isn't admitting guilt like it did (however temporarily) for Reagan.

Happy to see her try to run, but I just can't really believe its possible for a Democrat to win a statewide election in Texas, especially in a midterm election.

Dancin_In_Anson: I hate to bust your bubble (not really) but I voted for Bill White last election.

Really?
William Alexander "Bill" White (born May 29, 1977) is the leader of the American National Socialist Workers' Party, and former administrator of Overthrow.com, a now-defunct website dedicated to anti-communist thought, and far-right interpretations of anti-Zionist and anti-capitalist speech.

White came to public attention in 1996 in a front page article in The Washington Post after he posted allegations about the stepmother of a girl he said was being abused. In 1999 he expressed support for Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, killers of twelve students and a teacher in the Columbine High School massacre, because according to White, they were being oppressed by the United States education system. In 2005, The New York Times quoted White as having "laughed" when United States district court judge Joan Lefkow's husband and mother were murdered because Lefkow had ruled against white supremacist Matthew Hale in a trademark dispute. He told The Roanoke Times that he looked forward to "further killings of Jews and their sympathizers." White is skeptical of the Holocaust, saying "claims that ... the gas chambers were part of a 'Holocaust' of 'six million,' were invented almost entirely by the Soviet Union, and were later adopted by the Jewish communities of the Western nations." The Anti-Defamation League quotes White saying "there was no Holocaust" and describes what they call "White's Holocaust denial rhetoric".
I would rather be known as a teabagger, myself.

They do and they don't.  Perry used his SPECTACULAR lack of ethics to milk the office for every ounce of corrupt power he could snatch.  He stacked every layer of state government with cronies and political debtors who serve at his pleasure and no one stopped home because he talked just like Gee-dub and didn't go to Washington and become "evil city folk."

Ah, Wikipedia.  Such an excellent source of reasoned, thoughtful information.

Seriously, the man is a self-described "libertarian socialist," whatever that means.  It's not far right, that's for sure.  Just a hateful, awful person with no filter mechanism, IMHO.

EyeballKid: Sure you did.

Indeed I did. I liked the guy. Did a good job as mayor of Houston. Plus, I can't stand Rick Perry. There is very little that I can find about the guy that I can call positive.

You see, I have this really bad habit of ignoring the letter inside the () and instead listening to what a candidate has to say. If I like what he or she says and he or she has a good track record, they get my vote. If they follow through on what they say (or attempt to) I'm still in their camp. If it turns out they they are full of shiat, then they lose my support.

You should try it some time.

EyeballKid: Derp.

*sigh*

If I were her, I wold be very worried.
I hope her security detail is good.

There are a lot of assholes in Texas who think god talks to them, these assholes own guns

I'd be interested to see how this plays out. She is clearly okay making a stand against the derp and that should win her some support. She also has a seat of power in the Texas government, so there are people who have voted for her before. Imagine the reaction to her winning... my goodness.

Well, she's not batshiat insane, for starters.

That alone should garner at least 1/3 of the popular vote in most states.

The Nazis were the 'national socialist' party, and a lot of their policies were sprung from the idea of the Volksgemeinschaft, the idea that We Are Special and The Other Is Not.
