The knob broke off...or possibly ran away.

Another Boehner ally, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), predicted that Boehner would instead seek to add a measure that would eliminate subsidies for members of Congress to buy health insurance - although some Republicans complained at the morning meeting that such a move would create an economic hardship for their families, GOP aides said.

Boy does that speak volumes.

This is what happens when people live in a bubble so small, so packed with pork-rind-and-Milwaukee's-Best farts, that those people believe everyone in America (save for the Communist, Atheist, Muslin, Soros-funded, Satan-inspired, Jane-Fonda-workout-tape-masturbating-to, Ivan-Drago-Rooted-for Lamestream Mediaites) is 100 percent in agreement with them and it's just a lack of true American courage and inspiration preventing them from the White House, 100 Senate seats and 435 House seats.

Your assessment is entirely inaccurate.

They also blame ACORN's voter fraud.

How to fix Congress?

1. Fire all of them
2. Term limits.  Congress: 5 terms, Senate: 3 terms  (or 4 and 2, it's negotiable)
3. Mandatory redistricting based on population.

1. And how do you propose we fill 535 vacancies?
2. Those 535 replacements will spend their 10 years in the House and/or 18 years in the Senate (or 8 in the House and 12 in the Senate) sitting around with their thumbs up their asses, giving huge tax breaks to military hardware manufacturers in exchange for a chance at an obscenely high-paying gig at those companies when their time in Congress is up -- in other words, no appreciable difference from who we have to deal with right now.
3. We already have that. It's called "gerrymandering," and the only people who are in a position to improve it directly benefit from the status quo and thus have no incentive at all to fix it.

Well... maybe not *all* of them. Just the extremists.
Congresscritters who are unwilling to compromise are not fit to perform the functions for which they were elected.

I agree with the rest.

At this point, Boehner should ignore the stupid so called 'Hastert Rule' and pass the bill with Democrats and moderate Republicans and ditch the Tea Party assholes.

Mandatory area to border-lenght ratios of districts would be the 80% solution.

FTFA: The debt-limit bill is packed with conservative goodies, including almost every measure the House has approved since Boehner became speaker in 2011. Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) thought the package had a good chance of attracting the support of 217 Republicans.

And they couldn't even get that because it wasn't frontloaded to the shutdown bill instead. WEAKEST SPEAKER & WHIP EVER.

"We'll have to see what they decide, because right now they don't know," Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) said of House leaders. "They're in this ditch, and they want to get out of it, but they keep digging deeper and deeper and deeper. And this ditch is - they can hardly see out of the top of it now. I don't know what they're going to do."

Two dozen are holding the other 411 - and the world economy - hostage, because teabaggers are too fkn childish and stupid to accept defeat.

Thanks a lot, GOP, yer doin' great!!

Get ready for a default, people. No speaker has been ousted mid-term in an interparty coup since 1814 (and that might not even have been a coup). Which means Boehner is not going to break the Hastert rule again. So we're farked.

1.  I don't care, have a raffle.  Or we just have a big ass interim election this year.
2.  At least it will be different assholes in Congress.
3.  No we don't.  I'm talking about outlawing gerrymandering.  Districts should be equal by population and then as equal by area as possible.

And you know what? The "average american" supporter of these Teabaggers couldn't care less what they are doing procedurally, all they know is "Obama is Hitler, never do anything he wants, screw the effects on America"

It's really a shame we've gotten to this point, I'll admit when they first lifted their ugly heads, I thought the Tea party would have fizzled out over the course of a few weeks. We are being embarrassed in front of the world right now, who is looking at us, each country, and wondering if we are really able to hold the title of safest investment in the industrial world. With good reason, too. Unbelievable.

It's amazing that after the rude awakening they had over the "unskewed polls," the Republicans are STILL deluding themselves into thinking that they have widespread support to shut down the government over Obamacare. Well, the Tea Partiers are that deluded, anyway. The remainder of the party seems to be slowly awakening to a much less rosy reality. This schism is interesting to watch, but it's a train wreck for the party. This is what happens when you give the controls over to angry toddlers.
