More first world problems today. I've been playing this cute game called My Singing Monsters and haven't been able to log in since yesterday morning. I went to the forum when I couldn't log in on ANY of my machines to see if there was a "fix" and it turns out everyone is down and there's no communication from Big Fish Games about what the issue is and when it will be fixed. I joined with the others and started complaining to EVERYONE about how my schedule for leveling up one of my monsters is totally screwed. So, to recap the horrors of the last two days - nail polish I really wanted not available, mizithra cheese is MIA at the markets I usually use and my game is down. HOW DO I COPE WITH LIFE?

If only all the problems we encounter in life were that Soooo Not a Problem, huh?

I think I shall take a few moments today to reflect on just how lucky I have been in my life despite all the rough times over the years and then do something positive. If I were not exceptionally lucky/blessed/term of your choice, none of this would even be on my radar, let alone a source of annoyance. I think we all need to sometimes look around us and remember our daily frustrations probably aren't really that big of a deal and we should just let it go, man. Just let it go. Today is going to be that day for me.

I know what I think I'll do, too. I'm going to track down that homeless dude that hangs out in the park near my house and buy him lunch at the European bakery, the little greasy spoon restaurant or the pizza joint (his choice), an item he needs and I can afford and tell him to pay it forward some day, in any small way he can. Today is a "put positive energy into the universe day", because I said so.

The positive energy will come from my spoiled biatch bitter disappointment over nail polish, some cheese and a game. Amazing how something simple can inspire a sudden epiphany that makes you realize how horrid you are sometimes and inspire you to do something constructive, isn't it?

You know this makes perfect sense, because he loves you!

While I would like to think that that is the reason, what is more important to me is his interest in consuming almost anything remotely edible these days that makes me happy. At this point in time, I really no longer care if it's good for him or not, as long as he keeps eating (and taking his meds like a champ), and is comfortable and content.

I always read the rest of Fark, saving the daily updates to Caturday as my last stop. That way, when I get good and angry from the politics tab or morons ruining the world, I can come in here and see cute kitties and feel better.
Ivan loves the router even more now. I took this pic of him sitting on it awhile ago, but now, if we're not in the room with him, he'll curl up on it even though he's too big to fit entirely. The warm router is apparently THE best thing in the world now. Unless it's my lap.

Thx...  I used to have a thing about spiders too, I got over it when I found out all the nasty bugs in the garden and otherwise around are what they eat.  So I try to give the spiders a pass.  I finally found some good bat house plans too, so will hope to attract some bats early next year too.  The ones that used to be common around here can eat 1000 mosquitoes an hour (!) and there are A LOT of mosquitoes that need eating up there...

Marlowe is a stray that came to live with my parents about 8 months ago now.  He was found behind a vending machine in their local park, and no owner ever came to claim him, so they've been taking care of him ever since.  He seems to like it.

Most of the electrical is done. Suzy was a big hep. The ceiling was a ridiculous rats nest of wire and junction boxes that went nowhere.

Ha! Reminds me of the work our previous owner used to perform. One of his greatest talents was that of butterknife electrician. Wire nuts were merely a suggestion, but he at least had the courtesy to toss 'em in the junction box. Once I saw that I chased down every splice in this house...I only found one more bad splice and ended up getting rid of load's of dead wiring.

The last thing I need to tackle is the hot water in my bathroom. The water heater is 30' away, yet I'm fairly certain the plumbing runs to West Virginia and back before it hits my sink.

Upside down?

Looked like it to me, rise where the tread should be and vise versa, the treads should be 2 x 2"x6" and they like like 2 x 2"x4" to me from that pic.  Too short treads and too tall a rise... upside down stringers.  And note sure of local code, but around here, handrails on both sides too... safety first and all that!

Correct, but given the electrical in that place, I don't think the previous owners were overly burdened with thoughts of safety.

And a Suzy.

OMGs, you guize! That homeless guy is so funny! I knew he was older than me, I just didn't realize how much older. He's eligible for social security this coming up May and he's already on a list for low income senior housing. Said he could be checking in every day to get into the Salvation Army shelter for 90 days, then work for them for free as a bell ringer so he could stay an extra day for every day he worked, but they wanted him to quit drinking and homeless people bug him because they're (oh, the creative insults he had!) so he told them to (bunch of bad words) and came out to the suburbs where there were none of those (even more bad words and insults) and we throw stuff away in these neighborhoods he can take to the recycling place for beer money.

I had a blast taking him to lunch. I bought him some beer and cigarettes, too. My mom called me an enabler and told me to quit hanging out with weirdos. I told my mom he was a cool old dude, made me laugh and almost wouldn't let me buy him lunch because he was afraid I was a Marilyn Manson fan. He thinks I'm the weirdo. hahaha! (Ok, so I am a weirdo and I like maybe two Marilyn Manson songs, but so what?) I then told her he was just a little younger than she is and she should marry him so she wouldn't be a widow woman anymore and she told me to shut up and go post pictures of cats or something.

Amazing how I'm too shy and afraid to talk to someone "normal" at the Target most of the time, but crazy old homeless alcoholic dudes or dudettes - no problem. I'll bring them canned fuds, one of those army can openers and discuss the relative merits of park benches for midday naps (or in their cases, all nighters). I think it's because they won't judge. I am a delicate little flower, or some crap like that. lol!

That cracks me up how when I asked if he wanted to walk over to the cafe so I could buy him lunch, the first words out of his mouth were "you're not one of those Marilyn Manson kids, are you?" Uh, no. I have a different kind of angst, thank you.

Now, a laughing cat!

Beyond the Bridge

Beyond the Rainbow,
Created by tears,

Beyond the grief,
Created anew.

Lie green fields,
Bedecked by dew.

Adorned with flowers
Of every hue.

Here dwell
Our Companions,

Complete in
Every way.

As perfect
On the outside

As in.

Never to know pain,
Or hunger,
Or thirst.

To dwell ever within
His sight.

Their days filled with light,
Comfort. Peace.

Time knows no bounds,
A day is as a decade.

And.

When in that moment,
You pass beyond the
Veil..

Tails shall wag,
Purrs resound.

The anticipated is nigh.

Bells of animals souls
Ring.

Welcoming you,
Home.

No new pictures this week, we got almost 6 inches of rain last night and a light show with sound. Cassie and Tom stayed in the living room last night but Fiona wouldn't leave my side. I think Li-Ion was bothered by the storm as he was extra jumpy and let me cuddle him. Some time in the night Fiona jumped onto my bed, either Max or Li-Ion  freaked out and ran across my face leaving a bloody trail. I had to get up and clean my wounds, throw the dog off of the bed, and settle the kitties before I could go back to sleep. Had to kick the dog off my bed twice more before morning but the cats had gotten over their fear by then so no more scratches. Everything is soaked outside, the little chickens and Frodo had wet feet this morning, the horses stall took on lots of water and the garage floor, including my tack room, was wet. More rain for tonight and then I hope for a few dry days to get the stall dry enough to clean.

don't make me go digging up the link... so if the silver fox anderson cooper goes in for a spray tan, does he default to a bronze fox?  or would he have to dye his hair first?

Anderson Cooper is in his very own category. Comes with the fabulousness and having Gloria Vanderbilt as your mom, which is another form of fabulous itself. He can do as he pleases and papparazzi pics of him might go up about 10 bucks for the day. Not only that, he was a cat in a previous life. So that knocks the awesome fabulous hell yeahs out of the ball park.

Pictorial evidence!

cynicalminion: actually i think someone mentioned australia is the only continent with no active volcano.  so the mountains are the ONLY thing NOT actively trying to kill you in australia...  and you call that a knife?

That is probably the most sensible and concise statement about Australia I've ever seen in my life.

ok, can't take credit for it, there is that map out there of everything trying to kill you in australia (and surrounding waters)

but yeah...

how was it phrased?

the ten years ago thing?  get ginandbacon in here to defend ac from objectification... :)

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH how can I even concentrate on AC with these crazy wonderful critters everywhere???????????? And as far as I'm concerned, Cooper is worthy of objectification. That is one fine looking animal. And his background just adds to the allure. The glam childhood, the death of his brother, the empathy and astonishing fearlessness and intellectual curiosity he displays every single time he reports on anything...I love him so. If he had any interest at all in women, I would be chasing him down the street objectifying the crap out of him.

Happy Sunday y'all :)

i think my absolute favorite was the woman who got his face tattooed on her leg within weeks of him "officially" coming out.

and you just admitted to a double standard.  a gorgeous double-standard, but you argued that talking heads were being objectified and that was wrong, and now you said AC is WORTHY of objectification?  so is it just the DEMEANING objectification, or are we just gonna agree that there are certain pretty people who make broadcast tv watchable?

So I stroked his head and he positioned himself to get more, better rubs. Now he even reaches for my hand to pull it in to pet.

I do not know. I am unfamiliar with what it is you speak or whatever. That's OK. I live in my own little world, so that's standard for me to be confused. Nothing is obscure on Fark, just it also has quite a few of those of us for whom everything is obscure. Our own knowledge of the obscure things we do happen to know is pretty impressive though. I saw some guy explaining tiny details of Irish law on TFD last month who said "I've been waiting 8 years to use that knowledge". lol!

I'll probably be waiting at least that long to discuss my views on the Donaldson translation of Beowulf and the differences between Nordic and Celtic elves in folklore.

Oooo! Look at these cutie heads!

This is a Chevrotain Mouse Deer:
1.bp.blogspot.com

Here's an adult and juvenile:
25.media.tumblr.com

They are a type of primitive ruminants and eat mostly plants (I'm going to guess insects as well, though the info page didn't say why it was only "mostly" plants). There are many subspecies and they range in size from 1 1/2 pounds for the smallest Asian variety to an African type that tips the scales at 35 pounds. They have remained relatively unchanged for the past few million years as apparently both Mother Nature and the deity of your choice agree - you can't improve that kind of cute!

My wife had her car inspected on Thursday. It's five years old and has only 14k miles on it so I didn't think a full brake inspection beforehand would be needed. It ended up failing on the left front pads and rotor. I put new rotors and pads on it last night for half what the dealer wanted and probably got it done with better parts and half the time. The inner pad/rotor had the strangest wear pattern I'd ever seen. It's as if a the inner 3/4 inch section of the pad was much harder than the rest. Other than the odd wear the brake pad looked pretty normal...no bends or cracks??? The guide pins and calipers checked out fine so I can only assume the brake pad material was defective.

Other than that I've just been getting lots of stuff done around here and getting ready for the cold. It's turning out to be a chore chocked weekend.

So....far....behind! Gah! *waves!* Hi everybody! I'll try and catch up between tonight and tomorrow mornin'. We're still tearing apart the house and re-doing everything. Well, not really everything, but we have had the house torn apart and completely disorganized for a while now. It just makes everything harder to deal with and really cuts into my internet time, which I do not approve of at all.

Oh, before I furget, does anyone have a link to Haruko's Etsy store? Does she still have that going? I wanted to look at STUFF. When I want to look at STUFF, I try to look at STUFF people I know at least in passing are cranking out as product. Besides, I really like that one pic I got from her. It hangs all cute and creepy on my wall right above where I'm sitting right now. (Heh. my autocorrect tried to turning "sitting" into "stilling", like I've got a booze factory under my desk or sumfing. pffft. I WISH.)

Anyway, I'll try to catch up wit yous guize laters. Until then, have some ferrets!

I've been Farking for ~9 years. I've read almost every Caturday thread since before it had its own tag. Haven't posted to Caturday much, because Moira isn't really that interesting on her own, and the Caturday regulars have many more interesting/useful/funny cat-including stories than I do. It's sort of like they also serve who only post JPEGs to Fark threads containing partially-clothed women, to totally mangle Milton.

akimbotoo: She looks exactly like a kitty a veterinarian friend of mine had years ago. Rudy must have been the runt of the litter and was incredibly cuddly and smart. Unfortunately a previous owner had him declawed. She also told me a t.m.i. story about how Rudy adored her husband and loved to sleep under the covers between his legs and would "fluff the pillows". :-O

Moira's declawed. The apartment complex I lived in from 2000-2007 had a rule that all cats living there had to be declawed, so she had no claws the first time I saw her. This apartment complex was in Lansing, MI, so it was cold ~5 months/year. When I lived there, Moira would crawl under the covers and sleep next to me if I left the bedroom door open. I live in Tempe, AZ now, so Moira doesn't care so much about being warm.

Hey, he's doing a little better this week, thanks.  Eating and pooping almost regularly.  Seems much more comfortable now since the backed-up pipes got cleared.  He hates pooping in the rain though, so he's been holding it all day today!  I keep waiting for the monsoon to taper off but it just doesn't.  Maybe I'll take him down to the underground parking and see if he'd maybe prefer to go there (it's worked before!).

Otherwise he's sleeping a lot but seems OK for now.  He really had us scared there last week.

It's possible, since Burmese cats meow a lot according to PickyWeedia, and she has the right body type, the right color pattern, and the right behavior pattern. Some asshole abandoned her in 2005 and I took her in, so I don't have any concrete info on her breed.

Timid Goddess: I always thought the first half (Moi-) rhymed with Joy?

Yes. But having an oi- with an R immediately following seems to be difficult for many people. The front-desk person at the vet didn't even try pronouncing it. My father calls her "Mora". My friend Dan called her "Mrrml" when he was sleeping on my couch for 6 days.

I think I can say that Lucky is holding his own right now.  Unfortunately he's going to be put through some internal turmoil that really can't be helped.  He tolerates his daily sub-q ringers lactate quite well.  Never saw myself as one who could give a cat fluids.  He picks at many different kinds of food all day, he was never one to polish off an entire bowl of food at one time, unlike our youngest cat, Sophie, so it's difficult for Mrs Badger to gauge in total what he's doing.

Mrs. Badger had her first full day at her new job yesterday, so after his breakfast I closed Lucky off in my computer room / cat infirmary with lots of food.  Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, he ate nothing.  Took him out of the room and gave him new food and he wouldn't touch it........until I walked away, then he proceeded to eat normally.  She's scheduled for two days next week, so there's two potential days of fussy eating.

All this week there have been painters outside the complex, and I'm sure the noises and smells of paint and tobacco have put him off.  He's hiding right now because there's lots of ladder noise going on.

I've gotten way too many of those. I feel for you! My last one was a face to face last Friday and I could tell that the guy wanted to get me out of there ASAP, he didn't even ask the usual questions going through my resume, just the canned ones his company required. I was told to look for an email from the home office "sometime next week" if we were going to continue. The email was in my inbox before I even got home.

Hey.. everything doing well, I hope..  haven't done interviews for a while, but while they are interviewing me, I am doing the same, to decide if I want to work for them...  and I do send them a letter of my decision, with the reasons listed.. hilarity does ensue occasionally, but little offense..  got called back in by one guy and re-interviewed.. I was there for 8 years... when you can read that from someone, it,s time to politely terminate the interview. Good bet it would have been the job from hell... one will come along.... good luck....

On our walk back from noms, we met this guy with a teeny goggie..v. Friendly..I quipped, " my cat is bigger" ..the fellow said, "yeah, so is mine!" Lol, lol! He told us his goggie would follw us home were he not on leash..I could totally see that..nice way to end the day.

Yea!
Lost mine once.  What a pain in the behind.  You can't get this replaced without that, and viseversa...
Protip: Scan both sides of all your ID's.  And have both prints with you as you try to replace stuff.
