tgfc! Oh, Caturday, how I haz missed you! My son got a single dorm room..yay, woot! But now he cannot find his wallet. :( I am hoping my kitten haz not lost his mitten, and its just in his junk. He had to move today..so he has been ferrying stuff from one dorm to another in between classes...I feel like I have been on an emotional roller coaster!

Meanwhile Eli is out enjoying the cooler weather. No critter corpses, so either he is not catching anything, or he is eating them..Mo Tai Nai!

Wow, late to the party tonight...
Tonight was the meet the teacher night, and that seemed to go well!  It'll be hard to top last year's teacher, though.

Buddy of mines father passed away the other day and there is a service tomorrow.  His dad was 86, I'd last seen his dad in March as he was getting the house 'fixed up' to sell, and he looked okay then, but the cancer was pretty aggressive, and with his wife gone 11 years, and the house they'd had over 30 years gone as well, I think he didn't have a whole lot of fight, or interest in the fight...

On a happier note, All the cats are getting along nearly all of the time, other than the odd time the little kittens cross Pandora, or Jack tries to tackle Nyx.  Panda and Nyx even have come to an understanding...

And a kitten...

Zigby from a couple of weeks ago.  By Sunday I should have a few mins. to take a few new pics of the kittehs...

I'm pretty sure I heard a Moose on the far shore at the lake the other day*, and we are going to be up there Saturday mostly to receive the delivery of the siding and roofing for my storage shed.  But there will be a campfire and things cooked on sticks, and a paddle or two in the canoe, and with luck a pic of that moose...

*Moose are at least a 45min - 1hour drive north of our lake, and more typically 2-3hours north... this is a rare thing.

Posting this from another thread:

We have two cats. Smudge was my cat and Jorgi was my wife's cat. When we shacked up it was a huge shock to both cats and they fought like hell for a week or so. They eventually got used to each other and everything was great. Then my cat started pissing on the floor next to the litter box. We tried everything. We had like four litter boxes at one point for two cats. The vet put my cat on prozac and that kinda worked but it turned the cat into a recluse. Eventually we found that cat attract litter and that works pretty well. No more giant pissing problem. We just need to clean the litter box every day.

Now they've been living together for about six years and my cat is starting to lose her sh*t. She started hissing at Jorgi about a year ago. It's degenerated to the point where my cat will physically attack Jorgi whenever they get near each other. I feel bad for Jorgi because she's like WTF and hides and then smudge just c*nts her way away to go kill a mouse or something. She meows and kinda growls like crazy for every little thing. Hungry? RAWWWWRRR. Want to go outside? MRRRRAAAAAWWWWWRRRRR. I just think she's going crazy. Anecdotally, her sister, who lives with my mom, is completely retarded. Like fall off the couch and land on her head retarded. I really think my cat is losing her mind and feel bad. I'm the only one she's nice to. She will come to me once everyone else goes to bed and cuddle like she used to when I was single. I'm not sure what to do. She is making Jorgi miserable and I think she pretty much hates the family life. We've been to the vet and she's perfectly healthy. So TFD.... Wat do?

I only got about 30 pages into the first one, and had to put it down.  Keep in mind, I'm no book snob, one of my guilty pleasures is the Sookie Stackhouse stories by Charlaine Harris in a not dissimilar universe, who is not by a long shot ever going to win any literary award... but compared to Steph Meyers, comes off like Shakespeare.

Well, some cats do get senile, so this may be what is going on. I might wonder if there is something wrong with the other cat, that is making the female unhappy..maybe a felway collar would help. Either that or restrict where they can be..umm..give them a bath so they both smell the same?

Welcome news is Welcome, esp finding of wallet by tigerose's son wizden's cat wars, not so much so.
Up way too late last night to no avail, no repeat performance.
Beta females do come when requested to be fed; often galooping to their room from living room.  Furry likes to nap in there as it's quiet, & is where she & her kittens were in early days.
Had hope of a Goody Night pic, but flash player malfunctioned so reckon not.  CYa in the daylit AM.

Will silicone spray damage a counter top?

Yeah yeah I know but this is cat related I swear. You see my cat has taken to laying on top of the fridge. Well when it's time to get down he jumps to the counter, then to the floor. I am thinking that some silicone on that counter and the next time he comes flying of the fridge he would hit the counter and not stop, slamming face first into the wall behind the counter. Don't worry his face is used to it... if you walk through the house he will run in front of you to lead you to his food dish, he will frequently look back to make sure you're following and when he does SLAM! Right into the wall. Dumb cat. He acts like he's gonna starve but what makes him even dumber is that he has an auto-feed bowl. Sigh...

I have no pics of him that are easily uploadable but he looks almost identical to the I can haz cheeseburger cat.

I wonder if the vet might have another med that might help... not all anti-dep's work (the same, at all, et al) in all humans, why would they all work at all or the same in cats...

my first question is what kind of counter top.... second thought is that silicone isn't going to be slippery enough to do what you hope it will...  what would end it in a heartbeat would be something sticky, like fly paper, but not that sticky... there is a mid tack double sided tape intended for drop cloths on hardwood or tile (check your nearest paint store)

2013-09-26 11:28:09 PM
Majick Thise -  if your goal is to keep your cat off the counter (or the top of the fridge) - try taping blown up balloons there for a bit - it's cheap, easy, removable - and cats generally avoid them - i did this to keep one off a certain chair.

If yours is ornery, results may vary

Majick Thise: Will silicone spray damage a counter top?

I have heard (or read) that sheets of aluminum foil on the counter will kitties away from the counter. It is worth a try. I wouldn't try the silicone.

Put a couple of the "mouse-sized" glueboards on the counter.
The first time they step on one, it takes away the urge real quick.
It's funny as hell to watch.

Good Meowning! This from Cafe Press, a T surely, applies to any time of day. Type at ft of pg 2, after Majik Thise & the fridge lounger.  While it's never too early for kitty snoozing, it's also never too early for cookies.  Wonder what kind MT fetched?  Could have leftovers of the punkin-brown-sugar-substitute, lower carb ones I made for past Mon Novice QT contest.
Still got Printing to do for local newsltrs to radio shops, best get with once I see what's on pg 3.

sno man: Wow, late to the party tonight...

I've gotten way too many of those. I feel for you! My last one was a face to face last Friday and I could tell that the guy wanted to get me out of there ASAP, he didn't even ask the usual questions going through my resume, just the canned ones his company required. I was told to look for an email from the home office "sometime next week" if we were going to continue. The email was in my inbox before I even got home.

catmandu: Sickapie: Soooo, I applied for a job about 2 weeks ago.  A full time job, which is not really what I wanted, but any part time job that I saw wanted me to work nights and/or weekends, and since that was out, full time it was!  I got an email from a lady at the company a few days ago asking me to do a phone interview this past Wednesday, which I did and she said she'd send out another email out to the applicants today letting them know whether they qualified to come back for a person to person interview next week or not.  I didn't get a good feeling after the phone interview.  I felt I had a few brain farts, the lady on the other end wasn't that friendly, didn't get good vibes, etc.  So, I got the dreaded email today in short, "Thanks but no thanks".  Didn't even put my name on it.  Just one of those canned things from Customer Service.  Bah.  Now I have a headache.

Ug.  Sorry.  They could have at least waited!

We did a couple of short hikes to waterfalls - one was the Crystal Cascades trail starting at the Pinkham Notch Visitors Center, the other was to Ripley Falls in Crawford Notch. We wanted to hike up Mt. Washington, but the weather wouldn't let us so we had to settle for hiking in the valley. Still beautiful, though.

It sure does! We already "fish for cats" here. It's one of Desi's favorite hanging toys (a feather thing meant to hang from a cat tree) on the end of a long string at the of a stick. I can lead him just about anywhere with it. All we have to do is put it on a shorter line, teach him to go through a tunnel, and we'll have an Feline Agility champion on our hands!

/We can't hang these feather things from the cat tree

Keep it mellow - Riders on the Storm
Or just go a little crazy - LA Woman

Either way, it's a win/win!!

Decided to go mellow... fired up the system.. have you ever heard that in full surround?   Remastered in 7 channel.. 'Light My Fire' also kicks audio butt..... thanks for the suggestion. Need to relax anyhow... tomorrow is the rewire of the Brewers panel... after which all of the new stuff will be automated and online.. gonna take two days to put everything back where it belongs... the whole crew has been fussing at me for not being home much.. hairball in one shoe, popped the footcushion in the other, plus a few attitudes.. time will heal all...... happy to see all of you here.. and some new (to me) names...  and rosy621.. he knows he,s your favorite..  great bunch of kittehs here... need to hit the hay very soon...

He'd appreciate a note from any of us; adrs etc likely on Caturday FaceBook page. Am told I need to join FaceBook by more & more people but am still reluctant to. catmandu: Sickapie: Soooo, I applied for a job about 2 weeks ago.

[dl.dropboxusercontent.com image 500x362]

//stoopier lady
///thbbbbbb

Hey.. everything doing well, I hope..  haven't done interviews for a while, but while they are interviewing me, I am doing the same, to decide if I want to work for them...  and I do send them a letter of my decision, with the reasons listed.. hilarity does ensue occasionally, but little offense..  got called back in by one guy and re-interviewed.. I was there for 8 years... when you can read that from someone, it,s time to politely terminate the interview. Good bet it would have been the job from hell... one will come along.... good luck....

Timid Goddess & sno man both, in Plumbicon's & my youth, there was a music education major who hung around the univ's radio station WAJC (W Arthur Jordan Conservatory at Butler Univ in Indpls, sold yrs ago. Was at 104.5 in FM commercial band, pre-dated many educational radio stations. Students ran it) besides being in the marching band (as Pl was after he failed USAF ROTC final physical; said he too nearsighted even to fly a desk).  Truly Big guy, over 6' & weighed at least 250 lb.  Surname Varnell, so called Barn Varn by most.  One summer he brought a litter of young kittens to the station.  They too climbed his legs & rode around on the turntables.  Sadly, he was too big for his own good & died fairly young; was gone before we even heard he was.  Was band director at Richmond IN HS for number of yrs, loved & respected.

My mother in law lives with us, and I gave her my mother's cat Obie after my mother died, but I don't have any pictures of Obie. I'm beginning to think she's intentionally moving just as I snap a shot of her!

Schrodinger (now far older than pictured) has to move, for the first time in his life. We are moving from a two story victorian with a garden to an apartment, and he will have to be an indoor kitty at least until we are sure he has acclimated, and won't pull a runner. The apartment is actually in a pleasant, safe court-type complex, and we have a balcony - so maybe he could go out there when he has settled in.
At this point we have gotten him his shots, a chip, and some kitty tranks and a pheromone collar.
Any of you Caturday farkers got any CSBs or advice you would like to share? I could use a little reassurance - and so could Schrodinger - he knows something's up. Something he doesn't think he's going to like. We are the recipients of much crying and glaring.
Help!

Sadly not all such stories have happy endings. Am visiting a friend atm and last night she told me that one of the apts in her bldg had been empty for a cpl of weeks and was starting to smell and when investigated, two cats were found dead, one had died early on, the other much later. The second kitty did NOT eat the first kitty. They must have been really good friends or possibly littermates. I has a sad :(

Good morning, you wonderful and sexy people.

So adventures in Emma and Emmett.  This week, Emma decides to become an attention whore.  I've never heard her cry and meow as much as I have this week.  I guess she sees an advantage to me around so that I can pet her and feed her.

Emmett is obsessed with me taking showers.  It's not him liking water per se, but more about me getting wet.  He even blocks my way from getting out of the shower.  So this week, I'm going to take my iPhone into the shower and snap pics of the little tike.  He gets snipped in a month.

Glad to see everyone in good moods (only one sad, and yes I agree Lilyspad, how can humans to that...). Love the Frodo, too.  I had a pet chicken once, named "Chicken Noodle".  She was a cuddle chicken, and loved bologna worms. lol.  OlderGuy, don't work too hard on those dust bunnies, they reproduce like..well, bunnies. Oh, and I agree with the tin foil as a deterrent to cats to "go there". It does work!. I had to put it on the corners of the couch for awhile, they stopped shredding the couch and used the cat scratch pole. People asked if I needed to use the tinfoil for a hat.. hahahaha. Funny friends. Thanks again for all the good cheer, love everybuddys' sense of humor.   Make it a great day!

lilyspad - your TV cartoon made me LOL and spill coffee

when we went from "cat-on-top friendly" console tv to "husband required" flat screen something new evolved....

Cat Fuzzle - who is a large boy - started camping in front of the screen - and the touch-pad - when grooming, he will routinely 1) turn the tv off, 2) jack up the volume to eleventy, 3) give you the "change screen" option, etc.....

thanks for that post

CrankyAndi: I know this is not a cat...but this is Wraggs.  She LOVED her cats.  She was best friends with Bob.  Ellie also bonded with Wraggs, after all, Wraggs was with me the day that we rescued Ellie

She has been gone 3 years now.

Bob......He was a good cat.

I adopted both when my parents moved into a nursing home.  I drove to Nebraska to get them.  I started out with the intention of just taking Wraggs but then Bob also needed a home.  I needed them both.  They helped me thru some very rough times

I love the pics of Wraggs. She's just so dang adorable.

I think I can say that Lucky is holding his own right now.  Unfortunately he's going to be put through some internal turmoil that really can't be helped.  He tolerates his daily sub-q ringers lactate quite well.  Never saw myself as one who could give a cat fluids.  He picks at many different kinds of food all day, he was never one to polish off an entire bowl of food at one time, unlike our youngest cat, Sophie, so it's difficult for Mrs Badger to gauge in total what he's doing.

Mrs. Badger had her first full day at her new job yesterday, so after his breakfast I closed Lucky off in my computer room / cat infirmary with lots of food.  Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, he ate nothing.  Took him out of the room and gave him new food and he wouldn't touch it........until I walked away, then he proceeded to eat normally.  She's scheduled for two days next week, so there's two potential days of fussy eating.

All this week there have been painters outside the complex, and I'm sure the noises and smells of paint and tobacco have put him off.  He's hiding right now because there's lots of ladder noise going on.

Our daughter got this photo last night; Spot in a bag.

i had a coupon for $2 off a box of Friskie wet food in packets not cans. The store had a double up on coupon special so that was $4 off a box of 12 packs of cat food, a bargain I couldn't pass up. Guess who decided they don't like cat food from packets instead of cans?
Gremie licked all the gravy off the food and then threw his dish on the floor. Jack has never been one to pass up any food, cleaned out the dish.
3 days and 3 different flavors, same results. Gremie's mad and Jack is happy.

Yes. But having an oi- with an R immediately following seems to be difficult for many people. The front-desk person at the vet didn't even try pronouncing it. My father calls her "Mora". My friend Dan called her "Mrrml" when he was sleeping on my couch for 6 days.

Add in the rambunctiousness, picking play fights with the cats because she thinks getting beat up is fun, and ignoring any orders we give her if she doesn't feel like doing it, and she's definitely earned the name!

I think you are correct on both counts! :D That is so sweet and wonderful. My Niki (a tortie who has been gone 8 years now) was my soul-mate kitty, but my current 3 are all pretty close. Especially Abby my 3 year old ex-feral. I fell in love with her the instant I saw her and so did hubby and the two boy kitties Charlie & Zuma.

Update from last week: The dermatologist's office called me Thursday afternoon - it rolled to voice mail 'cause I was drowning in paper at the time and ignoring all phones.  I tried to call back Friday but got someone with an IQ lower than her shoe size.  Anyway, it's not a good sign.  The nurse told me that if the biopsy was benign they would not call me - just send a note in the mail.  So dang!

I really do think so. She looks exactly like a kitty a veterinarian friend of mine had years ago. Rudy must have been the runt of the litter and was incredibly cuddly and smart. Unfortunately a previous owner had him declawed. She also told me a t.m.i. story about how Rudy adored her husband and loved to sleep under the covers between his legs and would "fluff the pillows". :-O

How's Buddy the Wonderdog doing?

Hey, he's doing a little better this week, thanks.  Eating and pooping almost regularly.  Seems much more comfortable now since the backed-up pipes got cleared.  He hates pooping in the rain though, so he's been holding it all day today!  I keep waiting for the monsoon to taper off but it just doesn't.  Maybe I'll take him down to the underground parking and see if he'd maybe prefer to go there (it's worked before!).

Otherwise he's sleeping a lot but seems OK for now.  He really had us scared there last week.

Tinyteddy and a warm duvet makes for awesum naps.

Also had an upclose and puuursonal visit with Bobbit the barn cat. Ye gads he climbed right into the car! Food, you haz food? Oh my gorsh he is a cutie! And, oh, that purr! Black kitteh with a splotch of white on his chest, copper eyes and a nub tail...his sister has a full tail..so, no clue what happened there..Hay Mower? My instructer had him and her fixed within a week of hazing them. Good on her!

It might be he got a Manx gene from one parent while she got two non-Manx genes.  Anya had the gene and a stubby, clubby tail.

spinach gunk: Jesus Farking Christ: Good morning, you wonderful and sexy people.

You'll take a few photos of the cat too, right?  ;)

akimbotoo: She looks exactly like a kitty a veterinarian friend of mine had years ago. Rudy must have been the runt of the litter and was incredibly cuddly and smart. Unfortunately a previous owner had him declawed. She also told me a t.m.i. story about how Rudy adored her husband and loved to sleep under the covers between his legs and would "fluff the pillows". :-O

Moira's declawed. The apartment complex I lived in from 2000-2007 had a rule that all cats living there had to be declawed, so she had no claws the first time I saw her. This apartment complex was in Lansing, MI, so it was cold ~5 months/year. When I lived there, Moira would crawl under the covers and sleep next to me if I left the bedroom door open. I live in Tempe, AZ now, so Moira doesn't care so much about being warm.

So Agree with CrankyAndi & akimbotoo re kittehs of heart.  Much-missed Cheeky was one, best-ever Brit cat.  Furry aka Furrnandina aka Queen Mum runs close 2d.

Actually, never been one we haven't loved as much as we could! This is Lynx cuddling with Cheeky on Pl's lap, quite Ago. Lynx came to us shortly after too-big Gretl (of whom I still haven't found downloadble pic! She was so glorious, 20 lb seal tortie with cream tip to her tail! Still miss her too--) died of heart attack like Too Many Too Big critters & hoomons do.

Could have been developmental too. We had a couple of kitties come to the shelter where the vet's figured that when they were in utero, an umbilical cord got wrapped around one of their feet and essentially "amputated" it. Could have been something similar.

I've been Farking for ~9 years. I've read almost every Caturday thread since before it had its own tag. Haven't posted to Caturday much, because Moira isn't really that interesting on her own, and the Caturday regulars have many more interesting/useful/funny cat-including stories than I do. It's sort of like they also serve who only post JPEGs to Fark threads containing partially-clothed women, to totally mangle Milton.

Anna above. Not my cat, ex-GF's cat. Anna loved people and would always headbutt, purr, and occupy the laps of any new people she met.

that was my second thought... (csb: knew a bro/sis pair of purebred manx, she was a ninja, only way to find her was to open the food, then *bamf* she was in front of the dish, and her brother's nub of a tail wagged like a dog's when he was happy... don't think i have pics anywhere though, sorry...)

/first thought was "so was he called bobbit because of the tail or because he got fixed?"

Back, no moose today.
No paddle either, too windy. Still smell like campfire, so all in, a good day!!

Did come across some very much smaller critters though...
this little guy will become a Milkweed Tussock Moth (next year).
imageshack.com
he's just about an inch and a half long.

and this not so little lady closer to 2 inches leg tip to leg tip...

Philodromus praelustris (yes, had to look that up) a Crab Spider.  She's not a web spinner, and has taken to hunting on my not altogether finished shed at the lake.

the shed in question...

8'w x 12'd.   The siding and steel roof for it were delivered today.  More pics when finished.

Thx...  I used to have a thing about spiders too, I got over it when I found out all the nasty bugs in the garden and otherwise around are what they eat.  So I try to give the spiders a pass.  I finally found some good bat house plans too, so will hope to attract some bats early next year too.  The ones that used to be common around here can eat 1000 mosquitoes an hour (!) and there are A LOT of mosquitoes that need eating up there...
