Headache, a bit of fever and owie belly, but doing better than last night.

Know how you feel. I woke up yesterday with my annual tonsillitis.I ran down to the local UrgiCare for some antibiotics
hiat the grocery store for some yogurt and then to the Chinese carry out for chicken soup.I was not driving all over town ,these places are about 6 blocks from my house and all in the same plaza.
I spent the day on the couch taking naps and occasionally posting to Caturday.
Hope you feel better soon.

sherpa18: OlderGuy: valnt9: what the fark is FIOS?? Verizon fiber optics.. does the same as cable...

True, but it does everything better (and faster) than cable (IMHO). I had it for a short time before I sold my house, and it was far, far superior to cable. Alas, cable is my only option right now, hence my wall 'o text earlier  :o)

Totally correct about FIOS... I was giving the generic answer....

OMGs, you guize! That homeless guy is so funny! I knew he was older than me, I just didn't realize how much older. He's eligible for social security this coming up May and he's already on a list for low income senior housing. Said he could be checking in every day to get into the Salvation Army shelter for 90 days, then work for them for free as a bell ringer so he could stay an extra day for every day he worked, but they wanted him to quit drinking and homeless people bug him because they're (oh, the creative insults he had!) so he told them to (bunch of bad words) and came out to the suburbs where there were none of those (even more bad words and insults) and we throw stuff away in these neighborhoods he can take to the recycling place for beer money.

I had a blast taking him to lunch. I bought him some beer and cigarettes, too. My mom called me an enabler and told me to quit hanging out with weirdos. I told my mom he was a cool old dude, made me laugh and almost wouldn't let me buy him lunch because he was afraid I was a Marilyn Manson fan. He thinks I'm the weirdo. hahaha! (Ok, so I am a weirdo and I like maybe two Marilyn Manson songs, but so what?) I then told her he was just a little younger than she is and she should marry him so she wouldn't be a widow woman anymore and she told me to shut up and go post pictures of cats or something.

Amazing how I'm too shy and afraid to talk to someone "normal" at the Target most of the time, but crazy old homeless alcoholic dudes or dudettes - no problem. I'll bring them canned fuds, one of those army can openers and discuss the relative merits of park benches for midday naps (or in their cases, all nighters). I think it's because they won't judge. I am a delicate little flower, or some crap like that. lol!

That cracks me up how when I asked if he wanted to walk over to the cafe so I could buy him lunch, the first words out of his mouth were "you're not one of those Marilyn Manson kids, are you?" Uh, no. I have a different kind of angst, thank you.

Now, a laughing cat!

I know some of those guys are dangerous - some of the guys with homes are dangerous, too - but I'm pretty good at keeping myself safe around other people. I'm very good at hurting myself all by myself and I sure don't need or want any help from someone I don't even know. I'm pretty paranoid about other people too, but because I am very good at not doing things like following someone into the woods (like this homeless dude who is sleeping in the wooded area by my house - no way am I going to go look for his camp) or in the case of the guys I go play Canasta and Dominoes with in their garage once in a while, I won't stay in there if they close the garage door and I won't go in their house (at least not by myself - AH has gone over there with me a couple times), my paranoia is outweighed a little bit by my very sensible precautions and .... I don't know what to call it. I know how to give myself enough safety, even if what I'm doing is not entirely safe from a strictly "stranger danger!!!" standpoint, that I can appear fearless. It's not that I'm fearless at all - I just really do pay a LOT of attention to my internal alarm system. People who don't listen to that little voice end up hurt or dead. You see it on Investigation Discovery all the time and that's scary and awful. ALWAYS listen to the little voice in your head that's telling you "get the fark out of here - NOW. RUN" and who cares if they think you're insane. At least you won't be found in a ditch somewhere because you were worried about how it might look if you just bolted away from somewhere/someone.

Also, skateboards do double as incredibly effective and extremely dangerous weapons. You can kill someone with a skateboard if you hit them hard enough (so don't do that unless you've no other choice). I really don't know how brave I'll be when I start driving most of the time and therefore don't have a self defense tool with me at all times. I'm going into DMV later this week to get a permit or maybe even my license. I gotta see what the dealie-o is with that. I'm gettin' old, you guize. I had a good run though, didn't I?

Anyway....good for you for thinking about doing it! Becoming independent of public services and other people for transport is refreshing! But don't look at it as giving up something! We're all getting old-er...it's all a matter of how you look at it, now isn't it?? :D

I'm turning 44 in a couple of months, and I gave up my driver's license over 20 years ago. Suicidal trees and assorted signs kept leaping in front of whatever I was driving at the time, so I figured it was only a matter of time before a person or a critter did the same thing and just quit driving. The drunk wench knocking me down was an impressive display of my survival instinct and ability to be *poof!* GONE if I need to be, even with all these old injuries coming back to haunt me, but I really don't need to show off like that anymore. I'd much rather have the protection of a ton or two of steel between me and the other crazies that live in these parts.

Actually, it was a car accident when I was 13 that I'm pretty sure is the reason I'm such a terrible driver. (Or WAS a terrible driver). Right before I quit driving, a friend pointed out that I tend to swerve a little AWAY from other cars when startled and that's why I keep bumping into stuff. I'm afraid of the other car. That's kind of stupid. Another driver can get out of my way, a tree can't. So we'll see what DMV tells me about me and driving, probably at the end of the week. I'm just super nervous about the whole thing. Kind of excited at the same time, though.

I think Toonces and I learned to drive the same place.

Looked like it to me, rise where the tread should be and vise versa, the treads should be 2 x 2"x6" and they like like 2 x 2"x4" to me from that pic.  Too short treads and too tall a rise... upside down stringers.  And note sure of local code, but around here, handrails on both sides too... safety first and all that!

When I get it in my head to do something, I DO it, whether I probably should or not. Things don't always go so well, but at least I tried! I've been like that my whole life. I've got some great stories about my own stupidity to tell, a couple scars, know ALLLLLL the cool "hidden" places around here and made a few unlikely friends over the years. So the "pros" outweigh the "cons" in the long run. When I break out of my shell and get brave, I really am BRAVE. Or incredibly stupid and just lucky. Whatevs. Too bad you're not anywhere near me, or we could adventure together!
