just got a call from a friend in the Buford, Ga area
asking if anyone knows of a no-kill shelter in the area.
2 black, approx 10 wk old kittens have been found in an
abandoned house. she has no way to care for them, I'm not
able to, and she doesn't want to take them to the pound.
holler if you have any ideas.
tks

cynicalminion: Real Women Drink Akvavit: spray tan

don't make me go digging up the link... so if the silver fox anderson cooper goes in for a spray tan, does he default to a bronze fox?  or would he have to dye his hair first?

Anderson Cooper is in his very own category. Comes with the fabulousness and having Gloria Vanderbilt as your mom, which is another form of fabulous itself. He can do as he pleases and papparazzi pics of him might go up about 10 bucks for the day. Not only that, he was a cat in a previous life. So that knocks the awesome fabulous hell yeahs out of the ball park.

Pictorial evidence!

That is probably the most sensible and concise statement about Australia I've ever seen in my life.

not a pro at this, allergies have meant fish for pets, even though i love the fuzzbutts...
no help on identifying breed, but i'd say if the house is abandoned and not in danger of being demolished, a copy paper box with a towel, a bowl with some water and bring a can of kitty food over every time she sees it's empty...  that way if someone CAN rescue the poor things, get the shots and fixation done, the only issue is "found these, need licenses..." boom, done.

Read in a recent Care2 sending that 4 newly IDed legless lizards have been found near LAX airport. Not snakes, legless lizards.  One of commenters typed, Now ya blew it, they'll be driven into extinction by curious hoomons.
Hear something nearby sounding kinda like firecrackers, but in long bursts. No clue --

I do not know. I am unfamiliar with what it is you speak or whatever. That's OK. I live in my own little world, so that's standard for me to be confused. Nothing is obscure on Fark, just it also has quite a few of those of us for whom everything is obscure. Our own knowledge of the obscure things we do happen to know is pretty impressive though. I saw some guy explaining tiny details of Irish law on TFD last month who said "I've been waiting 8 years to use that knowledge". lol!

I'll probably be waiting at least that long to discuss my views on the Donaldson translation of Beowulf and the differences between Nordic and Celtic elves in folklore.

I'm one of those religious Germanic/Nordic Heathens similar to Asatru (but not quite, being agnostic and all), so I've not read Grendel, even if I'm familiar with what it is, but I do read a LOT of the old stuff in that vein. Everything from the Sagas to very dry modern scholarship about the original Germanic tribes to different translations with lots of footnotes of everything from religious lore to very old fiction and morality tales like Njal's Saga and Beowulf, all nestled with my books about.... Well, let's just say my bookshelves are a very confusing sight to behold. Unless you're me, then they make perfect sense. x-D

Bree's son (100% confirmed, it's a boy) is now not only allowing me to touch him, he is demanding pets and rubs from me. He was soo cute the other day when he finally asked for a pet. Momma was rubbing my leg asking for a head scritch and Bubba squeezed himself in between me and mommy and stood there waiting for me to give him some of what momma wanted so much. So I stroked his head and he positioned himself to get more, better rubs. Now he even reaches for my hand to pull it in to pet.

Majick Thise: Will silicone spray damage a counter top?

Yeah yeah I know but this is cat related I swear. You see my cat has taken to laying on top of the fridge. Well when it's time to get down he jumps to the counter, then to the floor. I am thinking that some silicone on that counter and the next time he comes flying of the fridge he would hit the counter and not stop, slamming face first into the wall behind the counter. Don't worry his face is used to it... if you walk through the house he will run in front of you to lead you to his food dish, he will frequently look back to make sure you're following and when he does SLAM! Right into the wall. Dumb cat. He acts like he's gonna starve but what makes him even dumber is that he has an auto-feed bowl. Sigh...

I have no pics of him that are easily uploadable but he looks almost identical to the I can haz cheeseburger cat.

I've had pretty good success with the Ssscat.  And DON'T buy their replacement canisters:  buy the 6 pack Dust-Off Compressed Air at Costco.  It's not hard to pry off the nozzle top and then pop on the Ssscat unit and it's less than half the cost of the official replacement canisters.

Love the fall trees!
They are starting to go here already, a couple of weeks early, all the local apples have been two weeks early too... so I guess that's fair.
The weekend before that is Canadian Thanksgiving, (so I might still be dosy from all the turkey), and the one after is already busy.  So that works out perfectly... just need to work out the rest of the details!

I'm aware of that one, I've just not read it. There was also a movie called "Beowulf and Grendel" (or maybe the other way around) that was pretty sympathetic to Grendel. The Heathen cry of "We're supposed to feel sorry for Grendel now?!?" was loud and indignant, just not from me. lol! I've never seen the world in black and white - most Heathens don't, from what I've noticed, or at least not to the same degree those of other faiths tend to view the world in moral absolutes - so the mini-outrage over Grendel being treated as at least a minimally sympathetic character in that movie was a bit "off" to me, especially considering the crowd I was hearing it from. Not only that, the original poem was a work of fiction. Just chill, dudes. Like sit back, fire one up if that's your thing, have a soy smoothie and let's discuss the perceptions and nature of good and evil and "nature" vs "nurture" or something.

Allen. The end.: It's too late for Caturday, but I had to post. I am taking my cat Jupiter to be put down Monday. She is 20 years old, does not eat, and has a tumor that is wrecking her left thigh. I want to die.

I know this is a horribly difficult decision to make for your Jupiter, but you are doing this to help her. 20 years is an amazingly long life for a kitty, but I know it doesn't feel long enough. (((((((HUGS))))))) Please know that most of us have been in your same shoes. It hurts so badly, but it is also healing when you can share this with people who care.
