Even Sexy Mental Patient?

Dear Asda,

I am deeply offended by how your so called "fancy dress costume" stereotypes axe murderers. We are not all insane! Yet your costume clearly insinuates that all bloody hatchet murderers are mental patients. This could not be farther from the truth. The large majority of serial killers are quite sane and well adjusted. Lovely people, really. You'd like us a lot, I bet, if you took the time to get to know us. But instead of making the effort, you go for the cheap laugh at our expense. Oh look, there's a bloody guy with a machete and a ripped up straight jacket. Ha ha.

Not funny, Asda. Not funny at all.

Sincerely,

Tony Chop Chop

The picture of the outfit shows someone covered in blood and brandishing a machete, while wearing a straitjacket with ragged edges, on sale for £20.

That just looked like a generic slasher/butcher costume. I never would have known it was a mental patient is I wasn't told.

A mental patient costume on a woman is a bit redundant.

Can we just dial down the Halloween theatrics bout 20 notches across the board?    I don't really need to see 16 year old girls dressed as slutty nurses or realistic head trauma and flesh wounds with squirting fake blood from my co-workers in the work place.

I'm fine with the theatrics.  But do it yourself.  Going out and buying a fully made [dumb stereotype] costume is really lame.

A couple years ago, the big new thing in dumb costumes was a "one night stand."  A few people showed up to a party in a box-ish fake piece of furniture with some stuff scattered on it and declared themselves "one night stands."  No, idiots, you're a nightstand.

/actually, I like the idea of being furniture as a costume.
//be some random thing, rather than a character.  All my friends want to be Futurama characters.  I like the show a lot, but that's lame.
///I want to be a milk carton.  No, not the missing face on a milk carton.  Like that carton from those 90s commercials that heckled basketball players.

going by my experiences with mental patients, the costume would be dirty pajamas, slippers,  greasy hair, pimply from the filth, and chain smoking.

Oooooo.  I have a new fantasy to replace the one where I show the girls on rumspringa magic tricks and make them live on my farm, fearful of my powers in Christ.  Time to pound off.

If you have to buy something someone else prepackaged as a costume, you're doing something wrong.

And thanks!  I am a blast at parties.

I swear there is some sort of competition to see who can be the most offended.

Nope....it's the "Inflatable gay best friend doll", as sold by Tesco....in no way stereotypically offensive.

They should have given the costume a fake AR-15, not some cliche meat cleaver. Nothing is more scary than reality.

The problem I have with this is the precedent it's setting. These companies giving in when three or four people claim to be offended about something only encourages more people to try the same. Next thing you know we can't have anything because no mater what it is, someone somewhere will find it offensive.

You're a genius. Keep enjoying those weekly episodes of Law and Order that depict mental health patients as run amuck slashers on the street. Ignore the fact that most mental health patients are law abiding citizens just trying to cope with the hand they are dealt.

I hope the costumes are flame-retar... I mean, flame-developmentally-disabled-ant.
