You send one of ours to the hospital... we send one of yours to the morgue. That's the Chicago San Francisco Way.

Looks like this happened just down the street from the Whole Foods.

False flag? No actual Dodger fan would still be at the park after the game is over

Stow wasn't murdered.

Sounds like some Jints fans were pissed because their team is almost in the N.L. West cellar.

Yeah, you're probably right. I don't have a dog in this fight so I'll leave it alone.

Aren't sports related stabbings more of an Oakland tradition?

FTFA: "We're still sorting it out but we want to assure the public the bad guys are in custody," said Police Chief Greg Suhr.

WFT? "the bad guys", what is this, a Bugs Bunny cartoon?

I can't comment on the stabbiness of Giants fans, as I've never been to their stadium, but any Dodgers fan that whines about violence is full of shiat. I used to go to Dodger Stadium when the Angels were there, but no more, the last time my friend and I sat in front of a gang banger who after about his 8th beer started threatening to push us off of the upper deck. We weren't even wearing any Angels gear, just cheered for them.

I've never experienced violence at a sporting event but there's certain teams I won't watch when they come to the K. My wife and I have experienced bad fans.

I was thinking the same thing.

Killing for your sports team is as bad as dying for them.

News Flash:  Thugs sometimes wear athletic gear and display their territoriality with violence.  The ones who killed this guy weren't Giants fans any more than the scum who attacked Brian Stowe were Dodgers fans.  A thug is a thug, whether you encounter them in a parking lot or an alley six blocks from the stadium. There are too many of them everywhere now, and innocent people pay the cost for that proliferation.

Damn. I worked less than 2 blocks from there. Not a bad neighborhood, really. As someone mentioned, it's close to a Whole Foods as well as some really nice hotels. I'm going out on a limb and say alcohol was involved somehow.

I went to a Dodgers-Giants game at AT&T Park a couple years ago, and after the game I walked around the outfield concourse and saw more than a couple fights going on. People need to calm the fark down about sports.

Why can't a thug also be a sports fan? There is nothing precluding the two from co-existing.

not lately. Candlestick and AT&T park are where you go to get violently attacked in the Bay Area now

Do you think the victims Dodger fanhood was a non-factor? Is this as likely to happen to any tourist in the area?

Maybe the attackers were freaked out by Zombie Dodger fan, Jon Denver.

RKA: Why can't a thug also be a sports fan? There is nothing precluding the two from co-existing.

Actually, I think there is.  A sports fan by definition understands and appreciates the game and the relative merits of the contestants.  He is unlikely to take the game as a personal affront to his self esteem, or to display brutish territoriality in the stands, or outside the stadium.
Okay, maybe excluding Raider fans.

mikaloyd: Do you think the victims Dodger fanhood was a non-factor? Is this as likely to happen to any tourist in the area?

First, I didn't say the victim wasn't a Dodger fan, I said his attackers weren't Giants fans.  Second, ask the guy who was stabbed to death stepping off a Muni bus a couple of days ago.

Wore a New Orleans Saints jersey to Candlestick for their post - season playoff meeting with the 49ers.

Never before have I seen such anger from people at a ballgame.  It went beyond shiat-talking, these people wanted to hurt us, and a couple tried to.

And it went on all day long, eventually we ran out of the stadium.  One even poured a beer on my mom's head.

No cal fans are the scum of the earth.  I don't particularly like what Dodger Stadium has become in that regard, but it it NOWHERE near as bad as bitter No cal thugs.

That's a poor definition. A "sport aficionado" may understand and appreciate the relative merits of the game. A sports fan is, as often as not, an idiot consumed by tribalism, provincialism and or nationalism...very close to your thugs.

A thug is a thug, but fan isn't short for fanatic out of some weird coincidence.

I've been to about 6 games at the Stick every year for the past 5 years. There are no worse fans in football than traveling Saints fans. Whatever you did, you probably earned it.

I'm a Niners fan, and I refuse to go to the Stick. Drunken assholes ruin it for everybody. (I have heard similar tales at other football stadiums, but having never been, I can't speak to those).

Protip: If you're twice my weight with half my alcohol tolerance, don't start drinking at 9am for a 1pm game.

You're mincing words and giving them your own definitions.  My point is that there is a difference between someone who goes to or watches sports for the inherent pleasures of the pastime and someone who basically co-opts sports fandom and uses it as a vehicle for antisocial behavior.  And I thoroughly disagree with your assertion that thuggishness is common to sports fans -- if they are using sports to justify that kind of behavior, they are misusing sports, and are not really fans.
Disagree if you like, but I stand by that.

I guess being beaten to an inch of your life and being left brain damaged and reliant on others for just about everything is a slight upgrade over death. However, I'd argue that it isn't really that much of a better state.
