Here's an idea: Let's take the most generic car we can think of, plop a generic crate motor in it, and make it worth money by painting a 9/11 (Sphinx!) memorial on it.

At least pick a car worth looking at. How about a Twin H-Power Hudson Hornet? Mid-60's Pontiac GTO?

I'm not getting down on Chevys, if you want to build an inexpensive muscle car with all the modern whiz-bang stuff it's the way to go, but you can probably troll though any suburban development and find at least one in a garage. Why not start your art with a car that catches your eye a bit more?

What charity is he donating the money to?  I mean, only a sleazebag would try to turn a huge profit on a national tragedy.

hey ..you know what would really make this car worth 30 million?  Having a true american like Romeo Rose painted on it.

Think how much more it would be worth if it depicted a Toby Keith concert too.

Plus, it's the undesirable '75, the year after they changed the classic Nova muscle car body of '68-'74. Crappy, emission-choked 305 instead of the 350. Do not want.

Why is it always the people who didn't live in NYC on 9/11 and/or didn't know anyone who died in said disaster that have the biggest need to show how connected they are to those events?

That's good, I almost forgot about 9/11 myself.

What's a 9/11?

I believe they are gas stations with a small store attached.  Usually operated by people with Indian accents.

Your guy said it was probably $7,000 retail. Will you give me $20 million? I really can't go any lower than that. I've seen these things on the internet selling for $40 million. If you can't do $20 million, I'll just have to take it home with me.

What? $50 cash and $100 store credit? Well.... I really need the cash. I suppose I could do that.

Notabunny: Whatthefark: I'd rather have the '66 Nova in the sidebar.

Yeah, '66 and '67 were the best. But I've always been nostalgic for a '69-'70. They're so approachable and blue-collar. My favorite combination is a '70 in dark green with a black vinyl top, black interior, 15x8 rallies in the back and 14x8s up front. Throw in a moderate 350 - 4spd combination, or (as long as I'm day dreaming) a moderate 383 - 5spd combo with 4-wheel disc brakes and a 4:11 posi out back, and I'd be happy to spend my days rubbing on the Turtle Wax, blasting some Bruce Springstieen on the Rockford Fosgate, and smoking the radial T/As. Good times. If you like, there's a fridge there inside the garage. Grab what you like. Bottle opener's on top.

Two things about this post;

'69-'70 are approachable and blue collar - yeah, those '66-'67' Chevy Nova's were what all the rich snobs who thought they were better than everyone else drove.

and now we know Biden's Fark handle.

I loved my Nova. That car took a beating and just kept going. Even I could work on that engine. Interior door panels missing. A vice grip was needed to roll down the windows. Blankets covering the holes in the upholstery. A wooden beaded seat cover for the driver. Wooden beads all over the car from previously destroyed beaded seat covers. She was the Brown Bomber, the Stealth Nova, the Anal Beads Salesmobile. (I should have cleared out those beads, I guess.)

She drank gas like Ted Kennedy drank booze, but she was fast.

Is that the actual Nova in question?  If so, why is there a gorilla's face on the trunk lid, and what's the deal with the Big Daddy behind the rear wheel?  I don't recall seeing either on 9/11.

bump: /Would much rather have the black '72 in the classified ad next to it.

This.

Those Novas are tanks. I drove one from Memphis to Aspen in 2 days and it was a transportation god.

In the mid-80s, I bought a '76 Nova from a kid that worked in a convenience store that my ex ran, paid $75 for it.  I fixed the brakes and muffler, and drove it every day for the next 3 years, doing a job that required roughly 100 miles a day on the car.  When it finally broke down, I junked it out, and got $60 for it.  Best deal I ever made.  A car for $5 a year?  Yes, please.

Just out of curiosity, is there a topic you won't shiat on? Something where you say "No, I don't think I'll take a big, steamy dump on this. This would be taking it too far."

Top book value for a 1975 Nova two door is just over $9,000? Is that a typo that should read $900?

I looked at it again after I read what you said, and I laughed my ass off. But, squinting at it, I can see that the "Big Daddy" is just a fireman with head bowed in prayer, and the gorilla is the Grim Reaper.

/Would have been way better if it was a Big Daddy and a gorilla, though...

Has anyone mentioned how farking AWFUL the art is on that thing? I'm not even talking about the subject matter, which defies the laws of physics by simultaneously sucking AND blowing. The artistry itself is atrocious. If I paid thirty large, nay, HUGE...I think I would want some photo-realistic shiat painted on that car. It better blow my mind. As it stands, it looks like it was painted by a guy that runs a airbrushed shirt kiosk in a mall. I've seen scratcher tattoo artists that can paint better than that.
