Nana's VibratorThe bridges in Minnesota collapse on their own.  There's just no use for terrorists in Minnesota.  It's a terrible feeling to be unneeded and unwanted

Given we were told repeatedly that the 2008 Mumbai Attacks were the "Dry Run" model for future terrorist incidents in the USA/Europe, & all these guy went thru the trouble of getting to Kenya from the Twin Cities...what's stopping them from trying this @ The Mall Of America?-I mean, even the name alone is perfect for them

Probably because the USA would conquer Somalia in like... a day in retaliation? Obama would spend the next few years hunting every single person responsible down and ending them. Best to wait for the USA to elect another incompetent, right wing retard.

sign_of_Zeta: I can definitely see it.  I lived in an apartment complex in MN that had a fair number of Somali refugees.  Other than the other refugees, there was no real place for them to feel connected.  Hell, I had trouble feeling connected so I can't imagine what they go through.  I imagine that the young men can be easily enticed if they feel isolated.

It's too bad that the alternative to "feeling connected" in Minnesota is to go be a terrorist in Somalia.

I am as libby as they come, but putting people from Somalia in freaking Minnesota is DUMB. It's cold, their culture is alien, and the Minnesota Nice bullshiat only counts if you are a WASP.

/from Minnesota

The Clinton administration thought your state was too white, so that's where they settled Somali refugees.
Much like they thought Missouri was too Christian, so that's where they put the Bosnians.

Yeah but they did not attack American soil. We were trying to force the Warlords to stop hoarding the food we were sending the people. when those same people attacked us for it they proved they just were not worth any further effort.

If you're going to blame somebody, blame the Lutherans, specifically the ELCA, which is based in Minneapolis.  They're the ones that sponsored the refugees from Somalia, and from Korea a generation before, which is why there are so many people of Korean descent here.  I know it's fashionable in some quarters to blame Democrats for anything up to and including the sun coming up or going down, but at least try to get your facts straight.  Too white and too Christian?  Oh, boohoo.

passthedutchie:
I live in the Toronto area and see disaffected young people who you know are brainwashed by their idiot parents who should have never come here or been allowed to immigrate.  Many of the kids see the light and shun their parents for their behaviour, but there are some who put their parents on a pedestal and follow their teachings as if its the gospel.

I have also had experience with Serbs who hate where they live and want to crush Croats here in Canada and "back home".   Canada needs to do a better job of screening immigrants and saying "no, you're not welcome".

I totally believe in multiculturalism, however that only works if there is assimilation to a large degree.  It doesn't have to be absolute but they can't keep all of the retarded traditions of the old world they left....and left because of said retarded traditions.

My parents (who are not of British heritage) immigrated to Canada, and had to make adjustments to their life.  They taught us what we need to know about the old world, and why they left.  They passed down traditions that do not conflict with our Canadian culture.

I lol'd.

Ha ha.  I spent many summers in Northern Minnesota.  Frequently I heard some offhanded comment about how everyone is racist where I'm from (Indiana) followed by some complaint about the God Damn Indians.  In rural Minnesota, it's not racism if it's about the Native Americans.

Does northern Minnesota even have enough white people for their family trees to actually fork?

super_grass: SuperNinjaToad: lockers: I really feel for the community being afflicted. Despite their best efforts, they are going to be targeted for what a few angry young men do. Notice how we don't go after high school losers after sandy hook.

because as much as many farkers pretend it doesn't exist, race and xenophonic mentality do exists and do play a role.

If Adam Lanza had been Adam bin Muhammad, Adam Juan Rodriguez, Adam Xiao Bo Lai and his skin tone a few shades 'browner', 'yellower' etc you can bet your last penny the people that shares the same race/ethnic group like him would've been subjected to some vigilantism, hate crimes or at the very least severe discrimination from the public.

Yeah, there was a huge ethnic backlash after Cho landed his high score or when Zimmerman shot that kid.

so are you saying xenophobia and backlash from major incidents doesn't exist? are you saying the Muslims, Sikhs etc that got racial epithet hurl at them after 911 is just a product of the imagination? are you saying Japanese Americans being singled out (and NOT German Americans) and forcefully put in camps is not racially motivated and thousands other examples of xenophobic incidents?

Wow! I wish I live your live of ignorance. must be extremely free.

Huh, I guess transplanting a group of people from a third world culture in to the first world, with that culture being completely alien in many many ways, wasn't a good idea. Oh well, at least we saved them from war only to have their children run right back into it.

SuperNinjaToad: are you saying Japanese Americans being singled out (and NOT German Americans) and forcefully put in camps is not racially motivated

It was racially motivated.  But it was also motivated by differences in attitude by each respective country.

In the case of the Nazis, a lot of the German population didn't really care for them (either from the start or eventually after they consolidated power).  They thought the Nazi party loyalists were arrogant pricks.  But people living under the regime were usually smart enough to keep their mouths shut and smile when talking about the Nazi party, so there was an appearance of public support.  Sure, people were mad over how war reparations helped crash the German economy, but they also remembered how brutal the Great War was.

The view in fascist Italy was even more dim.  Mussolini was considered a joke.  Their attacks on neighboring countries were opportunistic at best.  The Italians ended up becoming a proto-satellite state of the Germans after the country broke out into civil war.  American GIs of Italian descent would sometimes hook up with family members still living there to better coordinate attacks against fascist forces.

In the case of the Japanese, there was a lot more nationalism going on.  The Japanese felt as if western powers had a double standard regarding colonization, and that it was unfair that the western powers were placing sanctions against them.  They also had a culture with greater emphasis on loyalty.  So the common man was more likely to hold animosity against the US and stick with that view because that's how the powers that be wanted you to feel.  Lastly, they had a number of successful military campaigns, including kicking the Russians out of Manchuria, so they still had a blood-lust for war.

Didn't help things that the Japanese bombed US soil while the war with Germany was way off in Europe.

So while race played a part, so did culture and politics.  The big question is, if it was Russia instead of Japan that bombed us, and all other things were equal, would we have put Russians into camps?
