ajboucek: Gimmick: reillan: The railgun didn't exist in Q1.  It wasn't until Quake 2.  Nice try, subby.

Phineas: Q2 CTF was the best.  I remember one of my most heroic moments was running through the middle with flag, rocket jumping across and up towards our platform, turning around in midair and blinding sniping someone with railgun, and dancing the rest of the way to the flag... was accused of botting...  best day ever.   No women around to witness it though :(

I once had a farrrrrrr higher-ranked player than myself charge into the old-school q2ctf6 map red base while I was its sole defender.  I had told my team to go out and grab all the defense tech they could, and they brought back the defense rune and power shield, and I got my armor over 350 and health around 200.  When the guy charged me, he had quad damage and power tech, and hit me with a rail that knocked me clear across the room and up into the far corner.  I fell, rocketing him the entire time.  His quad wore off and he managed to hit me with two more rails as I pummeled him.  He apparently gave up trying to kill me and dashed into the base to get the flag.  Just as he was about to reach the exit to the base, he exploded to one of my rockets.  I had 35 health left.

/no women around to witness that one, either.

If it is any consolation, being a world renowned Q2CTF player and champion of OGL's 4vs4 and 2vs2 ladders got me laid exactly zero times.

pm, mgon, v23, pv?

I was in Delivering Expedient Death (a.k.a. [DeD]).  We were a LAN clan of guys in their late teens and early twenties, who all worked the tech support night shift for CompuServe.  We had a lot of idle time, and spent it playing CTF.

During our OGL ladder reign, none of the clans you mentioned were ranked highly enough to challenge us, but we did crush PM during our rise to the top.  The v23 guys were damn good, and may have given us a run for our money, but they didn't form until Quake II had been out for a long time, and we'd already moved on to other games before they really got started.

I was in Rolling Chaos ([RC]).  We didn't go to tournaments often, sadly (although our leader whooped Acejas 11-2 in one of the two tournaments we did go to), but played a lot of online games.  I think I remember seeing DeD around.

sorry to interrupt the circle jerk, but Action Quake was the only good thing about Quake 2!

bhcompy: /Q1/QW is superior

I know I used to have a lot more fun playing the original Q1 3wave CTF with totally unbalanced maps and keys for flags... Once the maps became totally balanced mirror bases in Q2, it was never quite as fun, IMHO... Sure, it was more fair, but not as fun...

And, as much as I loved Q3 and still occassionally play (against bots only; I'm too old and slow to take on real players these days), I always thought losing the grappling hook was the worst thing to happen to CTF...
