I saw the link was from Texas and my brain automatically appended "...but with guns." to the end of the headline.

In other news, there's a ton of nature in Texas you don't want to fark with.  That, and the 92° heat in late September.

Falling creatures from the sky
Fearless things that jump and fly
They eat bugs by night and day
Floating spiders are on their way.

I still prefer the flying spiders to the scorpions.

I've lived in north TX most of my life and was surprised to see this make news.  It happens every year, but it's usually way more prevalent in rural areas.  It was a little odd to see it in Dallas.

I work in downtown Dallas and watched the web parachutes blowing past my window yesterday.  I, for one, welcome our new spider overlords.

they exert a horrid fascination over me. we had a text book at uni that had a picture of a spider egg sac that looked exactly like a Ferrero Rocher (naff chocolate here in the UK). once having seen it, you can't stop yourself imagining innocently biting on a ferrero rocher and hundreds of baby spiders pouring out and into your mouth and over your chin

AAAAAARGHHHHHH

The three inch long flying cockroaches are worse. They live in the trees and fly into your bedroom at night with a horrific buzzing sound, then smack you in the face as you're stumbling around in the dark. Once got one caught in my hair. In the dark. Galveston....good times, good times.

They used to freak me out a big but we lived in one house that had huge house centipedes and silverfish and then I had roaches in my kitchen.  After all those nasties spiders are damn near cuddly.  I see one in the house and I think "hi little guy.  Go eat all the other bugs!"

Sometimes baby spiders will bite you, but their fangs are so small you won't feel anything. You'll start seeing symptoms later. Here's a helpful infographic to help you identify those symptoms. If you're experiencing any of these, you were probably bitten by a spider. Hopefully not one with necrotic venom.

One evening when I lived at home, I saw a brown and white spider climbing down the wall towards me. Not wanting a spider climbing on me after I went to sleep, I tried to kill it but only succeeded in knocking it onto the floor. Now I had a brown and white mottled spider on a brown and white mottled carpet. He literally vanished from view no matter how hard I looked for him. Going to sleep that night was very difficult, what with me wondering if he had climbed back onto the bed and was approaching my face at that time...

One with a vortex and clear receptacle would be a good investment.

We had a huge fuzzy female jumping spider in our doorway the other day. Our porch light attracts a lot of flying bugs so she was probably well fed, and I told my husband to leave her there.

He hates spiders, but he compromised, caught her in a jar, and put her in a shrub in our front yard. She fell out and immediately a robin swooped in and ate her. He couldn't understand why I was so angry. I told him to leave her alone! Now he thinks I'm insane...well more than before...

Poor jumping spider. :(

Yet he's ok with tarantulas. those are the only ones he's not afraid of. Who is the insane one? If you're afraid of spiders bigger should = more terrifying. Makes no sense to me.

2013-09-27 01:29:54 AM
I like spiders and like to see them in or near my house.  Black Widows I put outside, and I've never dealt with a Brown Recluse.  I understand that some people are scared by spiders, but I find them really cool and have let a tarantula scamper all over me.  They are beneficial allies to humans and they do us a lot of good.

Hey, when it comes to not killing spiders, you're being sensible. Spiders are our friends. Among other things, they will eat mosquitoes. And I haven't looked up the statistics, but I'm quite sure that mosquitoes (disease vectors that they are) hurt and kill far more people every year than spiders ever do. And even when they don't, mosquitoes are incredibly annoying.

I am very much a fan of animals that munch on those suckers.
