Wessoman: theflatline: Here she is in an interview admitting she has hypomania, a polite word for bi-polarism.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJGnu3OdPLQ

No, as a man who has a hyperthymic temperament, there is a difference between Bipolar disorder and Hypomania. In fact, Hypomania is actually a symptom of Borderline Personality Disorder or Narcissistic disorder, far worse than being bipolar.

That was my first thought.  BPD is often misdiagnosed initially, however, as bi-polar, since this aspect is more obvious to a psychiatrist who only sees a patient briefly.  BPD has a lot more odd behavior regarding attachments (from extreme love to extreme hate) and narcissism, which this woman shows.  Also tends to form in your early 20s, so she's right at the point where it comes out.

Took four years of legal and monetary issues, a suicide attempt and additional threats before my brother was diagnosed with BPD.  As much as I dislike what she did, if she has BPD I can't help but feel sorry for her, seeing how it's changed my brother for the worse since we were kids, and how many people just saw the good times, then heard about the bad things done without understanding the mental issues leading to that.

Carn: kronicfeld: Carn: Recently I stick around Chinatown or spots like H street for a quick beer (our current client is near Farragut North/West) but that's not all that often.

The Bottom Line between 17th & 19th on I street is my favorite place downtown. It's a dive and a post-kickball/football bar on weekends, but it's pretty chill most of the time. And they have these bacon-wrapped tater tots that will make you believe in God.

I've been there a few times, I like that place.  Decent burgers too.

Bacon wrapped tater tots! Sometimes I'm glad I dont work downtown sometimes I do miss it.

Frankly, I'm surprised that nearly every person who posted in this thread was successfully trolled by her. Did any of you read her post in its entirety??

Especially this part:

I was stunned into paralysis. I had no words-this never happens-and I just felt short of breath. There were many things that pissed me off, but I was so flustered I couldn't even articulate them. Again, this is a serious problem for a writer and effusive communicator.

I was still so agitated 10 hours later that I had to leave opera rehearsal early. This is a serious no-no, given that opening night is Saturday at the Organization of American States.

Then I realized: I am on the eve of my 26th birthday. Why am I stewing instead of just expressing what I really feel? There is practically nothing to lose from just telling the truth.

So then it came. "And it came. And it came." -(illicit tax-payer funded sext. Don't worry, these have since been screenshotted to his superiors).

It's obviously tongue-in-cheek, as is her "response" to the text message.

Wessoman: serpent_sky: Wessoman: No, as a man who has a hyperthymic temperament, there is a difference between Bipolar disorder and Hypomania. In fact, Hypomania is actually a symptom of Borderline Personality Disorder or Narcissistic disorder, far worse than being bipolar.

Actually, no. The key word in Hypomania is "persistent", which is a Bipolar thing.  Borderline tends to lack much of anything in any great persistent sense.   Borderline is more of a general all the time thing with the traits, with sudden, but short, bursts of the really bad stuff.  Bipolar can last for days and weeks or longer.. Borderline tends to be bad for hours or a day and then passes.

To that end, I consider Borderline a little better/more manageable. If I had to choose, anyway. (Nobody gets a choice, though.)

Nope. I think the problem here is the terminology. What I am referring to Borderline Personality Disorder, the ICD-10 labels as "Emotionally unstable personality disorder". Either way, being bipolar is incredibly difficult, but I feel people with BPD are of a greater threat to society, due to their devaluation/manipulation of other living beings.

Heck, perusing through the Wikipedia page, I feel that BPD describes Miss Pu to the hilt.

Bipolar disorder (axis I*) is a mood disorder and highly responsive to treatment, once the right medication and blood-levels are determined.

Borderline and Narcissistic are Personality Disorders (axis II*) and are not really "treatable", as such, more like you have to manage them, support and try to help them feel safe and important so they don't act like farking 3 year-olds. They're an enormous pain in the ass all the goddamn time. While they don't usually have the catastrophic mess of a full-blown manic episode with all its wanton chaos and destruction, they often do on-going abusive, manipulative, and otherwise farked up stuff. Borderlines love the suicidal gestures. Narcissists will do extremely hostile things to folks when sufficiently motivated, but it's usually calculated and measured rather than just batshiat foaming crazy.

Usually.

Literally Addicted: HotIgneous Intruder: If you can afford that and you actually waste that much money on an apartment, you're probably an idiot.

I disagree.  An idiot likely wouldn't be able to maintain a job that could pay for it.  But namecalling - that's real test of intelligence, right?

Toronto is pretty spread out, so most commute far if you work downtown.  Downtown condos may be expensive, but they provide a quality of life for many.  Living downtown, I enjoy a 5 minute walk commute, I spend more of my time doing the things I want to (walk my dog, cook, attend events) and I don't have to shovel a driveway in the winter.  Built in security and a free gym.  Not a bad life.

That, and downtown a 2500sf house can run upwards from 800k.  That's just ridiculous.

/commute used to be an hour and a half on two transit systems, or an hour and a half driving.  Toronto traffic is stupid.

THIS! I live in Toronto, but my Job moved out near Pearson Airport. Sure my commute is in the opposite direction. (Leave in the morning, enter in the evening) but MAN that traffic sucks! I'm looking for something downtown... but it's not easy.

Bingo.
I had a girlfriend with borderline, my god I did.
It was like living with a mountain lion.
Two abortions that I only found out about after the fact.
Finally got out of there.
She eventually died by her own hand.

The borderlines usually screw their lives and emotions up so badly that there is no redemption.

As someone who dated a BPD, I can attest to this. I can to cut her out of my life entirely.

I'd go with Narcissistic PD. Borderlines usually don't stay organized enough to write a book and do the stuff she does. Borderlines have the similar relationship crazy, but are more likely to go all clingy and stalky on the guy, plead and beg, promise to love him perfectly, then threaten to kill herself if he doesn't love her back.

I am amused by all the Fark Psychologists diagnosing her.

She's not bipolar or some shiat like that. She's a fairly typical, self-centered and yet insecure 20-something. She takes anything less than enthusiastic endorsement as an insult, so she has to "show" the offender that he means nothing by writing a "joke" put-down and making it public. An actually secure person would say, "Eh, his loss" and move on without elaborate commentary. But to the share-everything generation, if the entire world doesn't know you did something, it doesn't count, thus her dumb blog. A lot of people (and not just 20-somethings) are under the impression that everybody has to like them and they are always unpleasantly surprised to find out that that's not true and often react out of proportion to the perceived insult. Men react by threatening to kick someone's ass. Women react by saying/writing biatchy things on their blogs/Facebook page/Twitter.

Good point. The technology changes the picture. I recall once when I worked psych emergency at a county hospital and a guy said there were people on radios everywhere talking about him. This was 1991 and cell phones were proliferating and the staff did chuckle that it wasn't helping our paranoid clients AT ALL to see that in real life.

Other fun story: Guy comes into the drop-in clinic in San Francisco, sort of emotionally flat, said something about having been to the shopping mall for an ECT and it was wired up to a doctor's office in Reno that gave back the results. Sounded like pretty much garden-variety psychosis to me, so I talk to our psychiatrist about it who says, "Oh yeah, they're doing that at the mall, it's pretty cool. Inexpensive for people and the clinic in Reno sends back results right away."

OK, then, re-assess.
