Did you see their last football game? You think they aren't drunk?

2013-09-25 07:46:14 PM
I know a guy who went there, from stories he's told me I'd say that's accurate.

Throw a big school into a small town in the middle of nowhere, and there isn't a whole lot else to do.

It's not that surprising....they were the top party school back in 1997.

This.  Same can probably be said for every school in a rural setting.  Besides, "top party school" just means it's the biggest one where the students responded the most openly to the survey anyway.

That explains why Chico topped the list for so long. Also explains a bit of my experience at Oregon State.

Any "top party school" should be in a place where the female students wear very little for most of the year, Southern California, Arizona, Florida, or Hawaii.

No way to be sure without side by side picture analysis.

Any list that doesn't include UF in the top ten is clearly wrong.

So you're trying to tell m that Playboy, a magazine/website that predominantly caters to traditional and stereotypical whitebread dudes, didn't choose to spotlight universities with significant (and increasing) Latino student populations? Color me shocked, Subby.

Iowa is usually pretty high up there too, for exactly the same reason.

LazerFish: Did you see their last football game? You think they aren't drunk?

I've been to Morganton on a football weekend. Everybody for 100 miles around is drunk. They deserve this.

West Virginia's the weird outlier, I think.  The rest of the list is just the equivalent of that map of new HIV cases the other day that mapped perfectly to the population density map.

There are more parties and so on at the largest schools that don't focus on academically rigorous majors?  You don't say.

Yes, but are they so drunk that they're passing out in the stadium during games? Because that's what happens at UF.

How does the University of Virginia, which was number one last year, not even crack the top 10 this year? I mean ... did they stop partying?

This list belongs in the "stuff we randomly pulled out of our ass" file

2013-09-26 01:00:50 AM
WVU is perennially in the top 10 of every one of these lists, subby, or is this the fist time you've ever come across one on the internet?

Jim_Callahan:There are more parties and so on at the largest schools that don't focus on academically rigorous majors?  You don't say.

(ignores the fact that 2 of WVU's largest and most respected programs are medicine and engineering)

You just described every article ever written for any magazine in the last 50 years. There's never been anything close to journalism in that industry.

2013-09-26 01:04:04 AM
My parents both attended WVU in the sixties. Whenever the subject of 'party schools' would come up, my mother would say, "WVU isn't on the list because it isn't fair to rank professionals among the amateurs."

IIRC, Playboy has had this list for quite a bit longer than 8 years, I remember seeing '80's issues with them.

What the hell? You left out Louisiana. Seriously--I've seen women walk into class with barely enough fabric to cover half an ass-cheek and an areola, much less two of either.

/Were I straight, I'd have had to pause halfway to class to masturbate

As a USC alum, I'd replace B) with Arizona State

2013-09-26 01:06:50 AM
Wasn't LSU on someone's top party schools list? Sure, they're classless, chauvinistic, dickheaded prigs, but they do know how to throw a party.

Full disclosure: Nicholls State Univ. (Thibodaux, LA) and University of Louisiana-Lafayette graduate.

You don't understand. The game doesn't matter. It only matters that there is a game.

Based solely on the total volume of party activities, West Virginia U doesn't hold a candle to some other crazy party schools, but on a relative basis, WVU comes out on top every time.

2013-09-26 01:32:09 AM
When I went to Michigan state, they spent an awful lot of time and money telling us we *werent* a party school.

Dnrtfa but a lot of these polls and articles are based off of student perception, and not data (such as arrests or alcohol sales).

Well, if they aren't drinking enough to be passing out in the first quarter, they can't hold a candle to UF.

And in any case, my 2L year, almost every Monday after my afternoon class was spent at the bar with the professors loading the class up with as many drinks as they wanted, while still out-drinking all of the students.

1. WVU is, as mentioned, kind of the odd man out on the list.  Not for this reason, but because it's not one of the really massive schools population-wise.  At least, so far as I know.

2. So?  The University of Texas has some of the best specialist engineering programs in the nation as well, that doesn't alter the fact that it also has the 90% of the student population that's just getting a degree in having a degree.  The same applies to most public universities, they're not allowed to specialize so they'll usually have a couple good programs by sheer statistics if nothing else.

Nothing against UF, but I've been to both cities, and Morgantown has Gainesville beat as far as partying goes. Not by a large margin, though. The thing is, there are things to do in Gainesville outside of drinking. In Morgantown, there are only things to do while drinking. Gainesville easily has better weather, but thats part of it. Imagine a 4 month hurricane party in Gainesville (category 1). Thats winter in WVA.

Again, UF is a sweet ass school with a beautiful campus and some kick ass bars, but WVU has them beat. At least IMO.

So I didn't go to MSU (Michigan, and then 16 credits of CS plus 2 jobs with 7 AM shifts means you DO NOT party), but my father did and some of the stories he tells were hilarious.

As if West Virginia has anything else to do except party. Why is this shiat such a surprise? The less your state has to offer in terms of entertainment, and the more it has to offer in terms of moonshine, the bigger the party school it is.

I don't know.  Storrs, Connecticut (UConn) has the highest student:permanent resident ratio of any town in the country but almost never ranks on this kind of list.  I blame the football program.

Brits, you know how you laugh when Americans use the term "football"?  Well that's how the rest of Americans feel when UConn uses it.
