tuna fingers: I saw a parenting couple of the year candidate this evening. I took the one yr old to the neighborhood park to get some outside time. A family near the pond was feeding the ducks and geese (not permitted) when a goose snapped at and bit one 10 year oldish boy on the arm. Dad ran over a few paces from where he was with a younger girl and got all angry. Mom told him which little f*cker (goose) it was. Dad took a few steps into the pond to grab this goose, but it sped away deeper into the pond. Dad was attempting to kill that goose, this I am sure. I'm standing there in a wtf sort of way. The 10 year old was fine, just startled. I don't know how I would of responded if dad actually caught that bird.

No worries, mate.  Geese are fricking bad-ass.  Dad would have gotten his ass kicked, probably by two of three of them.  They'll usually choose flight before fight, but they CAN fight.  Especially in the water.  There have been documented cases of geese drowning human beings who threaten them in the water.  On land, they don't have as much of an advantage, but they make up for it by being very aggressive.

Seriously.  Don't fark with geese.

deadsanta:

The fact that said 15 year old was able to lift a bicycle and use it as a bludgeon indicates that you are looking at one hell of an early bloomer versus a couple of hippie-guitarist types. Also, don't forget that that the mom engaged the 18-year old with a tire gauge, leaving her two little monsters to lay into the 22 year old.

That must have been a crazy farking scene. What an absolutely useless waste of a family, too bad we don't transport criminals anymore, that whole clan needs to get shipped to Borneo pronto.

What did the people of Borneo ever do to you to deserve that?!

People laugh, but geese are real assholes of the bird community.

I work in an office park with a very nice, wooded campus with a waterway and trail surrounding it.  Geese abound.  If you get too close, especially if they have babies in the area, they will attack.  Not just hiss (yes, they hiss) and put on a threatening show, but actually physically run at you and peck at your legs and take flight and try to hit you in the head.  Then, if you move past the encounter and start to walk away, they will lower their head, twist their neck and chase you.  It's like you passed the invisible line they were defending, so now you're going to get a whipping.  You have to keep turning around and walking backwards while still fending the bird off.  You can be 100 yards away from the original encounter, and that god damned bird will still be on your tail.  And if another adult bird or two decides to join in the attack, your peaceful lunchtime walk around the trail is ruined for good.

So, OP, it's too bad you didn't get to witness the dad get his hands on that beast, because that would have been some funny-ass shiat right there.  You'd be telling us the story of how you saw a grown man get his ass kicked by a bird, and would have felt a little foolish for worrying about the bird in the first place.

CSB:  I worked in an office in a semi-surbuban area, where geese were plentiful.  I'm not proud of this, but morning I came in with a colossal hangover.  I got out of the car and came face to face with a big goose that wasn't going to move (turns out they were nesting w/i 15 feet of the car)  Well, I was in such a sh*tty mood I just looked at it and thought:  If you come at me I am going to kick your goose a*s.    Surprisingly, I walked past and the goose didn't do anything.

The VERY next guy who came in faced the same and the goose flew up right in his face.  He dropped his briefcase and all of the papers he had in his arm and just left it and walked in.  I felt bad because he was really a nice guy and I was sorry it happened to him.

/The only time I had a hangover that I was glad.

Yeah those videos don't really inspire fear of geese.

Granted if they popped up and I wasn't ready it woudl eb a bit startling, however if I was going after one and looking to hurt it, that really isn't intimidating.

Geese are not exactly in short supply, and they're aggressive assholes that leave huge turds all over everything. I'd have cheered the man on, if I were you. Not a good idea to go after the goose, though. Sure, you'd kill it if it didn't fly off, but you'd be repeatedly bitten, and badly buffeted by the wings. They make this tool called a "shotgun". Then again, they do tend to frown upon their use in public parks.

I'm pretty sure 2wolves was talking about the people who come into every single thread where the perp happens to be black exclaiming how they knew the person's race before even clicking the link, and droning on about how this proves all black people are thugs and scum, and using bullshiat statistics and nonsense to further their racist arguments, all the while proclaiming not to be racists and just stating "facts" and "statistics", as if their transparent acts were fooling anyone...

You notice none of them ever comes into a thread like this and says, "Wow, I guessed wrong about the race of the perp this time!"... Never... They don't even poke their heads in to say a word... They just run looking for the next thread where they can justify their prejudices, and ignore all ones that refute them... You can bet your ass that if Mother-of-the-year here had been black, this thread would be over 500 posts now, full of their disgusting crap and people responding to it...

The videos just demonstrate the behavior.  They don't really do the justice of actually being the person facing the goose.

Oh sure, if you were actively going to fight it, you're much bigger and stronger.  I didn't mean to imply geese > human.  But I think most people aren't looking to fight birds, and so it's pretty startling when these guys get going.  They're agile and much faster than you think.  If you're just out for a walk like most people who encounter them, you're not apt to be aggressive - the instinct is to defend and run.  Actually fighting one would suck - I'm sure I'd win in the end, but it would be a distinctly painful and unpleasant experience.
