(BBC)   Dementia patients get £1m grant, although how that will inflate the donkey in the rose garden with Billy, why are you here again? What happened to that nice young man who was here a minute ago?   (bbc.co.uk) divider line 21

Well, as long as that money goes to research and not the man who stole the grapes I was keeping in my tank because Blair and Tootie were trying to kill my friend Benedict Cumberbatch.

There's just no way we can inflame the honkey with a garden hose to get off this dying planet.

megarian: He steals from me.

Csb time:

My grandmother, in the last 6 months of her life, was very forgetful.

Anything that she lost or misplaced; she said was stolen. Her favorite suspects were my brothers and I.

She also thought that we were on drugs; because, one day she found the needles we used to vaccinate the cows.

Dementia is the most terrifying thing in the world. It's like watching somebody slow and steadily lose their soul. At the end they forget how to swallow and blink.

My grandfather, one of the smartest (and most foul-tempered) men I have ever known, is losing it.

We hung up a bunch of photos of his adventures around the world so he can look at them in the nursing home.

They were there three weeks before he had entirely forgotten everyone in the photos and where they were taken.

Every damn time I bring him his favorites foods, he tries to send them home with me because he claims he bought them for me.

He assures me his wife will be back any minute, so I should stay. She's been dead 10 years.

Anyway, that's why it feels good for me to make fun of dementia. Because fark it.

Oh, and also, he's mild-mannered and pleasant now after a lifetime of treating me like shiat.

So that is kind of cool.

Dementia sucks.

The dogs are fine, but the cats seem to have run away. They're in good health, no memory problems to speak of, just some headaches. Kids these days just like to knock old people down. Fortunately, they have dogs that will bark at the slightest noise, and if she hears anything, she just goes to get the gun. That said, I, "Beth," have never liked her and that's why we didn't invite her to the wedding. If it wasn't for me, Beth, her son would be living with them.  Also, the dogs are fine and the cats are fine. Have we talked to Mr. Kth's brothers? They never call. Mr. Kth's crackhead brother says that he's going to come and visit, but she doesn't want him to come to visit. They are in good health, no headaches, just sometimes she forgets things.

/My name is Kate
//they live 700 miles away and won't consider moving closer or to a place that isn't 6 acres.
///occasionally they call at 2 am because his mother doesn't know where she is, or who this man is that is living in her house.
////we joke to keep from crying

i work in a hospital so im getting a kick (etc). a recent audit showed that 50% of our admissions suffered from some form of cognitive impairment. as we live longer and the elderly become a larger fraction of the total, it's only going to get more prevalent
