What would you think about a guy that lives with 7 cats?
That guy really likes cats.

What if he let his 2 year old granddaughter play with them?
Are there two year-old daughters or one two-year old daughters, this is important.  I think two one-year olds might be able to handle themselves but a kid in the terrible twos would probably skin the poor things and wear them like so many Daniel Boone caps.

What if they were tigers?
Are we still talking about the guy granddaughters?  Because if that's the case gramps should be inducted into the proto-furry Hall of Fame.

The father-of-three refuses to accept being so close to the 35-stone animals is dangerous and insists if he gives them respect, they will respond.

By eating the tasty nutritious little monkey you so thoughtfully provided.

How would a 50 foot tall baby manipulate a tiger machine gun transformer? They lack the motor skills. Now you're just being ridiculous.

I was always disappointed that that kid didn't wipe out a bunch of people by taking a dump on those assholes and flooding the streets with pee.

I wonder if they give the tigers some sort of medication to lower their serotonin levels

It doesn't matter how tame you think they are, brain chemistry will make them violent in a pinch

The only reason tigers eat deer (or wild pigs or whatever) in the wild is because those farking deer never show them the proper respect.

Yeah, this seems like a self-correcting problem, as long as nobody ends up shooting the tigers in a futile effort to save people when they're inevitably eating them.

And I guarantee you that, were his daughter killed, he would have some rationalization about why it happened.  Sidestepping the fact that THEY ARE NOT DOMESTICATED AND YOU PUT YOUR KID IN HARMS WAY!

You should always tie cavalry sabers to your young childrens' limbs. Otherwise, they don't stand a chance against a world full of tigers, lions, Republicans, Walmart shoppers...

It always fascinates me that people want to own wild animals. Even wild animals raised in human captivity are still wild. When they get hungry, everything looks like a fawn to them. You get chimps snatching off faces, snakes consuming babies, etc.

I love how he "started a breeding program" to save them.

I guarantee he has no idea what those tigers are bringing in genetically.  He could have been breeding siblings together for all he knows.

But hey, as long as you get cute cubs to sell to other people...

The tiger likes keeping an emergency ration close by.

While these tigers seem tame they could turn at a moments notice. A tiger can kill in seconds. They shouldn't be pets.

Though that isn't what bugs me most about this article. What bothers me is they talk up tiger ownerships like it is fun and hip. All this is going to do is further the exploitation and torture of big cats for entertainment. Those traveling "Take a picture with a baby tiger!" shows are the worst. They kill the majority of those cubs with improper nutrition, stress, and exhaustion, but are okay with it because they don't really want to deal with older tigers. Circuses aren't much better to ANY of their animals which is why I refuse to go to them.

Lets just leave wild animals to the zoos and the wild shall we?

It's like a Far Side cartoon waiting to happen.

The One About Dinosaurs:  "They're more afraid of you than you are of them."

The One about Xenomorphs: "If you respect them, they'll respect you."

The One about Steve: "Crikey. Let's see what happens when I grab this deadly poisonous animal and tease it."

The Other One about Steve: "Let's tease this croc by dangling my bite-sized baby over it tantilizingly."

The One about Mikey: "Let's tease these paparazzi by dangling my bite-sized newborn infant over them tantilizingly from a hotel balcony."

I've got a million of them. Once you know the five or six hundred different formulae that Gary Larsen used, anybody can write a Far Side cartoon. It's like a Cathy cartoon, only with more than five jokes.

2013-09-25 03:40:22 PM
Yes, your tigers are more afraid of humans than your small child is of tigers.

That's what worries me.

What do humans do to things they are afraid of? Well, basically we turn into the Hulk:  HULK SMASH!

What happens to living things which are not afraid of predators and other dangers? Basically they go from amusing to amuse-bouches.

2013-09-25 03:43:58 PM
umm... i think what bugs me a bit more about this is that's his GRANDDAUGHTER...  bad decision-making skills are not a trait that skips generations...  "dad's got tigers, lets take the kids over to play with them"  ooooookaaayyy??

conversely, i could actually envision a family raised to respect the tigers... i.e. knowing when they're obviously upset about something, making sure they're not hungry before letting a toddler near them, etc.

so, yeah, i'll agree with "courting disaster" but also "not necessarily completely incompetent"
