Good.

And it makes me think this gridlock in congress may have some good purpose if it keeps them from getting the votes to extend it.

I was assured that GMO products are harmless, so why could they possibly need protection from lawsuits?

Unless of course they know something that they're not telling us.

I honestly don't know if gmo food is dangerous or not....but what I do know is that the way this legislation got snuck thru into the law was all kinds of dirty politics. Any company that acts as guilty as Monsanto does is probably up to no good.

Monsanto is a shiatty organization because of their questionable legal practices and patent shenanigans.

Criticisms of the safety of GMO food come from those who A) are illiterate B) find people from developing countries to be sub-human and C) assholes who follow trendy soccer mom diets.

You dickheads and the anti-vaxxers need to keep your self righteous ignorance out of the developing world and out of legislation.

The GMO plants themselves are mostly harmless enough. The problems are with the weird hybrids from cross-pollination, particularly with corn and soy, and with pest plants becoming resistant to glyphosate.

I thought one of the reasons Republicans give to eliminate regulations is that public discourse and civil lawsuits act as defacto regulatio, which prevents companies from producing/selling dangerous products. The 'Monsanto protection act' basically gives Monsanto a carte blanche to do whatever the fark they want, consequences be damned.

Must be nice owning politicians.

Eldon Schmidt
Schmidt Feed & Farm Supply
For eight years I have been the leading supplier of hybrid seed corn in Winneshiek County, and the reason is clear: My seed is pure!

I have come to assume my dominant position in this farm community due to the high quality and timely delivery of my seed. Come to Schmidt Feed & Farm Supply, conveniently located in Kendallville just over the bridge, and you will leave smiling and satisfied in every way, if not utterly amazed at the performance. You must have my seed!

Use my select seed, and your crop will show resistance to blight and drought and be less susceptible to strain stalk diseases. If you do not believe me, I will take you to my farm and show you the potency of my seed. Strong, turgid, fattening plants shoot up through the ground in the torrid Iowa sun.
Grab the thick base of the stalk in your hand and feel that it is alive and growing larger by the minute. Sweat will shine on your face as you ride my massive tractor around the grounds of my expansive farm.
I will smile down at you as you kneel and gently run your hands through the moist patch of dense growth at my most precious, secret spot-the plot of land where I personally test each and every variety of seed corn that I sell.

Ask me for my seed, and the day you have longed for, the day you have dreamed about, will soon arrive: When the corn is large and ripe for the taking, you can place your lips around the heavy cob, savoring the texture, the smell and, finally, the taste as you bite gently and your mouth is filled with sweet juice.
You will then thank me, thank me passionately. For I will have provided you with top-quality farm supplies at a reasonable price! We're just a block from Hill's Veterinary Clinic and the Kendallville Credit Union, so enjoy the convenience of just one trip to town!

For eight years, people have traveled miles for my potent seed, fighting for a place in line. I invite women and men alike to share in my superior seed, but in this day and age, I must be careful. If there is someone who is not fit to carry my seed and bring it to term, whether it be because of a broken wagon or a dry well, I will not waste my seed on them. My seed is select!

Come to Schmidt's Feed & Farm Supply and experience it for yourself.

My oldest children rush about the store to fulfill my orders while I take customers to the back storeroom one by one. There I show them my burlap sacks, heavy and bulging with premium seed renowned for its fertility.
Even if you've heard the stories, you'll still be astounded when I pour my seed out into your hands. My seed corn is guaranteed to be free of insects and rodents and is carefully tested for bacteria, fungus and spore growth.

Bill Edwards of Cloverleaf Hy-Bred Seed often comes to scout out my store. He walks by silently, with his hands in his overall pockets, sucking on a stalk of wheat. I lock eyes with him, and the hair under his John Deere cap bristles, but I do not even flinch.

I have marked my territory-it is all of Winneshiek County-and I will continue to bury my robust seed deep in the land until I am no longer physically able.

Hear me well, good people-mine is the superior seed!

Not only that, but once even if you didn't plant GMO seeds, if they are found in your fields... well, fark you, pay me. To me the patenting of food and the broad enforcement there were granted is a far more perverse problem with GMOs than some ill founded health impacts on humans.

I was just pointing out that if GMOs are safe, then they don't need legal protection from any harm they might cause.  Granting them legal protection from suits just fuels irresponsible speculation.  People might well go around saying things like "well if they're harmless then they don't need protection from lawsuits".

Thanks for the fact-checking, but I already felt pretty safe dismissing anything on The Liberty Beacon as truthful. Including the ad suggesting I convert my 401k to gold coins.

Certainly the best part of that deal is the penalty for early withdrawal I would eat before investing in a cash equivalent.

I don't care about the whole GMO debate, there has been no studies and no real push to make any studies on GMO foods

What i really hate is the fact companies can patent GM seeds, then use their monopoly to drive up prices, and prevent people from reusing the seeds.  Any flora or fauna should be exempt from any patent

Schrodinger - welcome to my favorites list. I actually had to unfriend a guy on Facebook recently for suggesting that Monsanto was more worthy of bombing than Bashar Assad. The level of paranoia and derp rivals Teddy Cruz. I wanted to suggest to my "friend" that it was time to join his brothers and sisters in the Earth Liberation Front. Only the next time they decided to burn down a condo development they should be sure to lock themselves inside first.
