Oh. South Texas. So crime is on the rise all over Texas, but somehow, the Democratic/Latino portions of the state get jackboot checkpoints.

Gotcha.

Four or five years ago I went clubbing with some Mexican co-workers in Nuevo Laredo, and when it got late, groups of people began to huddle up and start checking some social site on their phones, learning where locations of the Friday night roadblocks were set up. Every person in that club who was driving knew more about where the cops were than the cops probably did. In Mexico, avoiding the policia is religion.

A better thing to do would be to saturate those areas with completely legal vehicles, 100% sober and non-wasted drivers, who otherwise fit the "profile" and just choke the checkpoints with unticketable drivers. Run background checks on them first, and then send them through. Let the cops waste their time and effort pretending they're not profiling and targeting young brown males and anyone heading the wrong direction.

Of course, this won't work in Mexico, for other reasons, probably.
