Yeah, it'll get in the way of the Christmas lights.

The article doesn't really cover this story very tightly.

It sounds like he took a normal noose and put it around his neck, without supporting his weight some other way.

Halloween? Isn't it September?

Must be a US/Canada thing that's got me confused. We use a metric calendar. Maybe it's Halloween in the States.

It's suspiciously dumb, even for a teenager. And who the hell "loves" Halloween?

$5 says he committed suicide in the front yard and the mom is just on denial.

Pretty good prank.

2013-09-25 09:25:18 AM
My high school had an idiot who died similarly.  He was trying to imitate an Alice Cooper act and failed hard.  He snapped his neck in front of 3 other friends when he went to demonstrate the half-assed contraption.  Another kid a few years later wanted to prank his mom so he rigged a noose to the garage door to make it look like it was lifting him.  Except the door did and it hung him.   He figured the door would detect the weight and stop. This is along the same lines as looking down the barrel of an unknown gun and pulling the trigger.  All these things that need to be shown next to the word stupid in a dictionary.

I can think of no more undignified way to die than autoerotic asphyxiation.

I know quite a few people who "love" Halloween. And not teenagers, but people in their 20s and 30s. It's quite common.

This happens every year.

The one involving a "haunted hayride" was quite creepy/sad:

Nobody ever learns. It seems that two or three people each year go out the exact same way.

Not as sad as the folks who take themselves too seriously to have a bit of fun with the ghoulies and ghosties.

Halloween is my favorite holiday, but it's way too early to start decorating/celebrating.

No, "common" was correct. What is sad is  withered old people who think younger people having fun is sad.

Hey, you're entitled to your opinion.  Mine is that if you're in your 30s and still dressing up for Halloween for any reason other than your own children, you're still a child yourself.

Some people get waaay too into holidays.  I had an uncle who loved Easter.  One year he put on a pair of bunny ears and swallowed seventeen hard boiled eggs whole because he thought he could "lay" them in the yard.  He ended up with a clogged colon and died.  It was awful to watch him squatting there wiggling his nose and clucking louder and louder right up to the end. I don't know how many kids at the mall he ruined Easter for.

I don't mind that part either, particularly since as an apartment dweller I get very few trick-or-treaters.

I love how the kid actually said "Well, can I just stay and hang around?"

Some folks are just so literal.

2013-09-25 10:03:28 AM
I'm guessing he knew the "noose" wouldn't snap his neck, so he thought hanging himself from it would just freak out his little sister.  Unfortunately he didn't factor in choking or having an easy way to lift himself up.

He should have rigged a harness.  I've done it for a haunted house before, it's not hard and perfectly safe if done correctly.

Did he say, "Hold my beer and watch this?"
