(Talking Points Memo)   I will not talk on a log, to a frog, in a bog, in dense fog, about a loan, as it's shown, on an Obamaphone. I will not, could not, let people share. I would not, could not fund Obamacare   (talkingpointsmemo.com) divider line 267

I believe that I misunderstood Senator Coats (R-Indiana). My understanding -- which must be in error -- is that he claimed that the President and the Congressional Democrats would take full responsibility for a federal government shutdown, should the Republican party force one to occur.

Yeah, tell me about it. Mine was the bestest better headline in the history of ever.

My headline sucked the chrome off a trailer hitch.

somedude210: hot damn, the comments on CSPAN are worse than the ones here:

"Douche alert #McCain is speaking for the #Democrats NOT for Americans! #DefundObamacare "

CSPAN calls and tweets have been getting more reactionary and less cogent for years, mostly like the American Right since Buckley died.

Dancin_In_Anson: How many of you championed Wendy Davis?

Eh, I'm all for this guy, too. Just so long as he can actually pull it off the old-fashioned way, he's welcome to do it.

The consequences may make people hate his ass, but if you try to put a screw in with a hammer it ain't gonna go well either, even if you're totally allowed to use that hammer...

flondrix: Someone pointed out that whomever holds the copyright for Green Eggs and Ham could go after him for an unauthorized "Public Performance".

Not possible. "The "speech or debate" clause is a basic protection of members of Congress in a government of separated powers. Inherited from the British parliament, the right prevents executive oppression of the legislature, and here protects members from criminal or civil liability in the performance of their legislative responsibilities." (Article 1, Section 6)

Corvus: Hahaha he is explaining to Republicans that this really doesn't do anything at all.Republicans are calling him out.

If a guy wants to talk all night on the Senate floor, its fine by me. I think he's a megadoucheturd for trying to shut down the government, and he knows this is just for the 'Bagger base--its not even a filibuster. But I don't have a problem with him talking.

Somacandra: But I don't have a problem with him talking.

I will go so far as to say the Congressional Record is better for containing the text of "Green Eggs and Ham". But that's about it.

Well that was how they framed it. Do you know how the world works? Do you understand why one would use certain language to convey thoughts when trying to persuade another?

I know you're just bitter, but don't let that break you down in to being a blithering idiot.

Dancin_In_Anson: Most disconcerting of course is last week's huge accommodation for the employer community-extending the statutorily mandated "December 31, 2013" deadline for the employer mandate and penalties.

So, they want to delay the entire thing and delaying part of it is 'most disconcerting'? When "You can do A or B. If you do A, that's really bad. If you do B, that's really bad, too." is your political strategy, we can safely dismiss you as a complete crackpot.

That's pretty much my position.  Even if this isn't a true fillabuster, at least he's doing it the old fashioned way.  Hell, its the most labor that anyone in the Senate has done for years.

Which would be more than a bit of hilarity :D  (And yes, someone does hold the copyright--pretty much the rights to the Dr. Seuss properties are presently held by Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Random House may well also have some say as a licensee for publishing.)

Of course, being the snarty SOB that I am, I'm damn well tempted to propose that on the day that all of the bits of the ACA come into effect (effectively 1 January 2014 for most people, 1 January 2015 in general) that there be a national breakfast...of green eggs and ham :D  (Green orange juice and coffee optional.)

Jackson Herring: Eddie Adams from Torrance: Next, he's going to read The Lorax when railing against the EPA

The Butter Battle Book during his filibuster against defense cuts

The Sneetches and Other Stories when railing against the Civil Rights Act, Affirmative Action, and the Americans with Disabilities Act?

Horton Hatches The Egg when railing against WIC and assistance programs for new mothers?

Yertle The Turtle when ranting for more tax cuts for the wealthy?

Thidwick The Big-Hearted Moose when railing against the DNC realising the Tea Partiers do not know the meaning of "compromise"?

The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins whilst jusitifying the addition of yet another attempt to kill the ACA to any budget bill they can stick it on?

If I Ran The Circus in an interview regarding his presidential aspirations?

Marvin K. Mooney, Would You Please Go Now! in calling for impeachment of Obama...oh, wait, that was already done in calling for Richard M. Nixon to leave office, oops...

/seriously, this is quite a lulzcow :3

And to think that I saw it on Mulberry K street... while complaining about lobbyists and their corrupt influence on congress.
