Well Dr. Seuss is a bit tough for him to read, so I guess 17 hours is faster than most would expect him to finish it.

Agreed.

So he's saying once Americans try it, they'll love Obamacare?

Maybe a more apt comparison than he intended...

I'm sure that wasn't his intent but I don't credit the GOP with a lot of intelligence. It would be right up their alley to completely misunderstand the message of a dr. Seuss story.

The junior senator from Texas also negotiated the terms of his speech with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) in advance, on Monday.

Reid: So you're going to talk for hours on end?
Cruz: Yes.
Reid: About why you think Obamacare is bad?
Cruz: No, I'm gonna read Dr. Seuss.
Reid: One second, I'm getting a text message from the President. He's got some advice for you.

You'd have to be pretty damn dense to forget the last 2 pages of the book just a couple of minutes after you finished reading it.

Maybe we need to define the "Cruz" as a unit of stupidity. Most people would be measured in milliCruzes.

"Filibustering" a bill that became law forty-two months ago should really go a long way to combat the perception that Republicans are a bunch of purposeless obstructionists living in the past.

I get that they don't understand the bible, what with all those chapters and olde timey words, but Dr. Seuss?  That's...just sad enough to be true.

Technically, it's not a filibuster. It's a "talk to delay the inevitable procedural vote because I'm an attention whore" type thing

Yes, that is why I used quotation marks to indicate that the term is being used imprecisely.

2013-09-25 08:45:32 AM
The thing that blows me away the most, is that he turns Green Eggs and Ham of all things into a talk about the ACA... I honestly think that this is the first time hes ever actually read the book.

Hey Ted, The moral of the story is that you cant know if you like something or not before you try it.

or maybe he was just trying to send a political message to the other Elected GOP members.

If we let people use the ACA, they are going to like it, so we have to do everything in our power to stop or derail it.

Not to the true believers. They still think they can get rid of obamacare by legislative fiat. Like I said...most republicans these days are kind of dumb.

Dancin_In_Anson: How many of you championed Wendy Davis?

you understand this isn't an actual filibuster, right? All he's doing is delaying a procedural vote that is going to happen regardless. Wendy Davis' filibuster delayed the bill from getting voted on until the special session ran out of time. There is no time limit here, it's going to happen and his blathering does nothing to stop it.

/on a related note, he's moved on to talking Star Wars now
//complete with Darth Vader noises
///no light saber "whooshing" though

Yeah, 'cos a woman's right to choose what she does with her own body is exactly like health insurance companies' right to price-gouge without interference from pesky rules and laws.
I guess both sides ARE the same.

In fact, from the article:  "'Green Eggs and Ham' has some applicability, as curious as it may sound, to the Obamcare debate," Cruz said after he finished, to a few audible chuckles from the Senate gallery.

Isn't that what the Republicans are afraid of? That Americans will really like it once they are forced to try it?

That's exactly what they're afraid of.  And frankly, I don't see any other way that Green Eggs and Ham is applicable to Obamacare.  Is he admitting in advance that Republicans are going to start taking credit for Obamacare in the next 2 years?

Exactly

Dancin_In_Anson: How many of you championed Wendy Davis?

Did Wendy Davis pre-plan her speech with the opposition? Was Wendy Davis allowed to speak as long as she wanted? Was Wendy Davis able to grant time to her colleagues and then resume speaking?
Did Ted Cruz spend all of his time discussing the bill itself? Was Ted Cruz's speech ended by a massive willful misinterpretation of what words mean? Was Ted Cruz actually delaying a vote with his actions? Did Ted Cruz actually stop the bill he was protesting from being passed at the time? Did Democrats break their own rules to try to nullify Ted Cruz's speech?

I gotta say, man, other than the fact that they were each politicians in Texas who spoke for a while (remember, Cruz did not filibuster, because that's a word that has an actual meaning), I can't really see what else these things have in common.

2013-09-25 09:22:04 AM
ted cruz comparing liberals to nazis is exactly as heroic as wendy davis

2013-09-25 09:22:09 AM

Aristocles: Ted Cruz is a modern day Abolitionist. He and a handful of other freedom loving Patriots are fighting tooth and nail to Abolish Obamacare.

Aristocles, you need to go.

Teds little stand up routine here doesn't actually accomplish anything, it isn't even a real filibuster for christs sake.

Most of American has already decided to try the Green Eggs and Ham provided by the ACA.

In fact, we voted on it... twice on a national level.

The GoP has failed to do anything about it, 42 times now.

42 times...

failed.

Dancin_In_Anson: 17 hours. Wow! Good on him!

Good on him for what?  Make a pointless, fruitless, grandstanding attempt to do ... what is it again?

Hey, I have an idea - maybe he could have used that time to actually READ THE FARKING BILL on the floor of the senate. No, he resorted to lies and hyperbole and, get this , childrens books.

Laugh Out Motherfarking Loud.
