I have voices in my head, but they mostly just give me friendly advice like "Hey, you just ate so you should probably wait at least an hour before swimming."

/but they do say it in a really spooky voice

Same here, except it's Morgan Freemen for me.  "Hey, don't forget to take out the garbage.  Titty sprinkles."

Yeah, he's 30. That's a little on the backside of the stats for suddenly becoming schizophrenic.

He's just another loser drunk.

18 Pa.C.S.A. § 2707.1 "Discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure" is a 3rd degree felony, and after (if) this guy gets convicted, he will no longer be able to legally possess firearms.

Anyway, the 2nd amendment only states that any putative "right to keep and bear arms" that might or might not exist "shall not be infringed" - it doesn't state that any such right actually exists to begin with. There isn't actually any "Constitutional right" to have a gun. :D

But he'll likely still be able to buy booze.

And I'm sure that if the voices had told him to drive around town drunk, this would have made fark.

So are the same dumbassess that want to hold this out as a "see this is why we shouldn't have guns" willing to say "see this is why we shouldn't have cars" anytime someone gets a DUI?   After all, deaths from DUI incidents are 20% higher that gun deaths.

Then again....math is hard for some people so it's just easier to make emotional cases instead of those based on actual facts.

There are some things that government just can't do, and achieving perfection is one of them.
The system is full of holes and corruption to the point where it can't function against the intended targets of regulation, only against those who are trying to abide by the rules.

/Probably why they wrote "shall not be infringed" at the start.
/I mean, what's the point of piling on laws if your just going to fark up enforcement.
/or worse, misconstrue the publics good intentions to screw them over for a political benefit.
/Wastes alot of money and time to end up with a tragedy anyway.

2013-09-25 10:44:25 AM
Find it amusing that criminal penalties for "hate" crimes are steeper than for the same crime committed without hatred.  So if I call you a racial epitaph before I hit you I get to serve more time in jail yet we don't apply that same logic to crimes committed with firearms.

/Sticks and stones may break my bones
/but bullets will put me in the grave.

I would say it'd be likely that he was already schizophrenic, and the alcoholism is based in self-medication. Although chronic inebriation can bring on mental illness. Alcohol is a neurological poison. the cells it kills most efficiently are nerve cells, and those are easily killed off by a lot of things. Alcohol is just very good at it.

No, but as a point of history, there used to be an asylum in Massachusetts back at the turn of the century that housed "Dipsomaniacs and Inebriates."  I had never heard the word "dipsomaniac" used to describe a drug addict before, so that was something interesting I learned from that.

Maybe it's because I've never been drunk and don't hang out with drunks, but I've never heard of someone being shiatfaced due to booze and hearing voices.  If you're hearing voices, that's a sign of something other than just pounding back too many Natty Lights.

2013-09-25 10:50:54 AM
give me doughnuts: "after (if) this guy gets convicted, he will no longer be able to legally possess firearms."

If fark gun threads have taught us anything, it's that people who break the law will just use illegal weapons, if they can't acquire them legally.
So why should it matter if this drunken idiot loses his right to possess firearms?

(Similarly: why should it matter if we tried to prevent the mentally ill from possessing firearms?)

No, subby (and a double No to silly jso2897), the Bill of Rights doesn't give rights. It recognizes and affirms basic, pre-existing rights.  The right to bear arms descends from the right of self-defense, the most basic of human rights.

I wish we had mechanisms in this country that allowed mentally ill to get their hands on some form of help and allowed worried family members to get the family member in question, help. Man it would be amazing to put the blame at the root of the problem and not blame the tools of destruction going on in their heads. What a concept.

Emotion is all they have.

Those BIG, icky, dangerous guns will kill every soccer-mom's baby, ban them, Ban Them.  BAN THEM!!!!

Control Control Advocate:  Can we at least stop people who are mentally ill from buying guns?

Pro-Constitution Advocate: You mean like people who have EVER seen a psychiatrist for ANY reason at all?

Control Control Advocate: Eventually, yes.

Control Control Advocate:  Can we at least stop people who are terrorists from buying guns?

Pro-Constitution Advocate: You mean like people who are with Al Queda?

Control Control Advocate: Yes.

Pro-Constitution Advocate: But couldn't the definition of terrorist group eventually expand to include The Tea Party or Republicans or any group which favors the 2nd Amendment?

Control Control Advocate: Eventually it will, yes.

Control Control Advocate:  Can we at least stop people who are criminals from buying guns?

Pro-Constitution Advocate: You mean like people who have been convicted of murder, rape, domestic violence?

Control Control Advocate: Yes.

Pro-Constitution Advocate: But couldn't the definition of criminal eventually expand to include people with D.W.I or speeding tickets or infraction including IRS issues with taxes?

Control Control Advocate: Eventually it will, yes.

Pro-Constitution Advocate: But won't that mean a de facto ban on guns?

Control Control Advocate: Eventually it will, yes.  Theoretically, you'll still be able to legally buy a gun as all the liberal elite and wealthy will be able to, of course as they NEED protection.  Just the average citizen won't be able to.

Pro-Constitution Advocate: Won't that mean that the government can then do anything it wants to us, up to and including siezure of property without due process or compensation, nullifying the protections we have in the constitution?

Control Control Advocate: Eventually it will, yes.  The constitution really holds us back from becoming like our more civilized friends in Europe.

Pro-Constitution Advocate: You mean the ones who needed rescuing from the Nazis and saw millions killed under Stalin?

Control Control Advocate: You're a bitter, gun clinging redneck with no education who wants people to kill children!!!!

Rights do not exist.  They are human artifacts, and they only occur when and where men invent and enforce them. They do not exist in nature, and anyone who says they do is either a liar or a fool. You only have rights because your civilization, using the mechanism of government, provides them to you - strip away all the abstractions and words, and that's reality.

Just a repeat of what an average conversation with a typical anti 2nd amendment person is like.

Here's a genuine right: you have the right to, once in motion, to continue to remain in motion until stopped by an opposing force. That is something that no government can take away from you. Anything else is a privilege.

Corwrong.
I love guns. Got my first when I was 5. Have shot nearly weekly since then. Own over a dozen. Rifles, pistols, shotguns.
I would love for there to be paper trails, licensing, required insurance, background checks, mandatory safety tests, required gun safes, and may other regulations.
Your plan of no talks, no deal bullshiat is going to lead to us hobbyists losing our guns.
It is not a lifestyle. It is not needed for overthrowing tyranny.
