Toronto, you say. On public transport.

Does anyone know if that's current camouflage? It didn't look like it. Also it seemed ill-fitting. And cray-cray.

it looks like a variation of the 4-color woodland pattern. It's used by a bunch of countries, all with it's own little tweaks. Not the same pattern as the US version, so either foreign or commercial variation.

/why were you filming a stroller to begin with?

So someone asks you not to film them, and you race to not just put it up on YouTube, but then submit a story on Fark about it? Subby, please out yourself. Not as in "make yourself public", but as in "please remove yourself from this world".

Screw that, you don't get to tell people what to do when you're out in public. That man needed to be on the internet with his pirate bunny.

A wounded Canadian veteran with a fake military uniform that is not a Canadian military uniform? Sounds legit.

Speaking of jumping through hoops, you initially went from defending a wounded Canadian veteran to ignoring that he's not either of those things.

Things that happen in public are matters of public record. Photographs and video of them are an important part of preserving this public and cultural record. We understand ourselves and each other better by viewing and discussing images--especially in a historical context. Don't stop filming and photographing weird stuff, subby.

But maybe tone down the "WTF OMG IT WAS A BUNNY" all caps. Engage the guy and ask what he's up to. It'll make the story and images more interesting and probably a lot more compassionate as well.

Sorry, but there is nothing wrong with filming this and putting it on youtube.  The camo guy has every right to ask people not to pet his bunny.  But he can't keep people from taking pictures or filming him as he pushes his bunny in a stroller out in public.

You assume service animals are just to help blind people navigate? Not so. This little guy is there to help emotionally ground the guy. Probably helps him from having some sort of emotional response (probably anxiety/panic) that would otherwise prevent him from functioning in society. If he starts having a panic attack, he pets the bunny which calms him and the attack's severity is diminished.

I would argue that needing a bunny to get around is a pretty strong indicator that you are, in fact, not functioning in society.

And what's the alternative? Have him live in a mental institution (on taxpayer money no less)? Seems like kind of an extreme measure for a problem that can otherwise be solved by letting him carry a bunny around. If all it takes is a bunny to let this guy live an independent life, then I don't see what the big deal is and I'm more than happy to let him declare his rabbit a service animal.

Do you know how I can tell?

I would argue that mocking a man with PTSD, service bunny or no, is what makes someone 'not functioning in society'. Doubly so if one goes out of their way to defend that mockery.

Subby, nice pinstripe suit you were wearing! Seriously, I love a man in a dark pinstripe, so classic.

Now, getting to the covert filming. On one hand, the bunny really was adorable and I enjoyed it. But on the other hand, the guy really didn't want to be a subject of a FARK video thread. I'm in betwixt and in between on this one.

But ... Bunny! :)

Yes, the camo guy can't can't keep people from taking pictures or filming him. Yes, no one is saying that danielscissorhands broke the law, or should be sued, or violated this man's rights. But, believe it or not, legality is not the final arbiter of what's moral or immoral*. Posting a video of someone who asked not to be filmed, just to publicly mock them, is a dick move. That it's a legal dick move doesn't suddenly mean there's "nothing wrong" with it.

*as an aside, note that danielscissorhands would probably agree with this statement, as he apparently thinks lawyers are immoral. So, is he a hypocrite?

I haven't seen anything that odd on the Vic Park bus - I used to take the downtown express until I moved downtown - but yesterday there were two people dressed as firefighters walking around with picket signs.   I was in a rush, so I didn't get a chance to see what was on the signs, but it was still a little odd for the financial district.

I can't see the video, so I can't tell how old the guy is. Maybe it's a continuation of all the messed up frosh week stuff going on a couple of weeks ago?

CSB: Last Friday, there was a mariachi band @ Bay & Wellington, playing "Tequila" to promote avocado awareness.

2013-09-25 12:52:32 PM
As a further aside, note this from the description on the video: "I was not able to film this astonishing sight for very long, because the man noticed me recording with my phone."

If danielscissorhands believed there was "nothing wrong with filming this," then why stop?

It can set off flashbacks and anxiety attacks.  Camera flashes are like the flash grenades his platoon would throw at him to harrass him for being a bunnyf*cker.  Without reading his blog, I'm apt to believe he came out of the military the same way he went in.

Well, since he runs around in a fake uniform with his pirate "service" bunny and gets aggressive when he gets the attention he desires, I'm glad he's Canada's problem.  I'll mock his misfit ass as I see fit. Pfft.

Are you a patent lawyer too? You are just as idiotic as  Theaetetus.  So by your logic, someone who mocks people in uniform by wearing a fake uniform does not deserve to be mocked?  And, as Barfmaker and  Seat's Taken mentioned, it's doubtful his PTSD claim is valid either. If he's going to lie about his military experience why would you expect him to be truthful about his PTSD?  People get paper cuts now and think they have PTSD. Give me a farking break.  If the guy wants to claim the bunny as a service animal, there is no reason why he shouldn't be able to, if it helps him, but there is a big difference between having anxiety disorder and having PTSD.  Also, maybe he legitimately has Asperger Syndrome, but even that is often an excuse for people who can't function in society.  Also, how is my video really mocking him? I don't see much mockery in the video.

This is a valid point, which I considered when creating the video.  And it may be a good point.  There is also a such thing as fast forward if it really bothers you, perhaps you didn't realize.

I prefaced what was going on at the beginning because many people do not bother to read the video description, and without reading the description first, I'm not sure the video would be enough of a video to stand up on its own.

People with mental health issues may be "misfits," but it's not like most of them have a choice in how their symptoms manifest themselves. Do you mock people in wheelchairs or with other disabilities, too? Because they have about as much control over their situation as someone with a mental disability.
