They don't have safeties.  The only safed weapon is an unloaded and disassembled one.

The only way to stop a bad dog with a gun is with a good dog with a gun. Or a cat, or a smart monkey....

Why have a loaded shotgun pointed at you?

If you're putting it down, unload it.

So, the current talking point is that most of the gun deaths in this country are suicides or accidental.

If that's the case, wouldn't it make sense for the NRA to push for gun safety education to prevent deaths/injuries like this, which make them look bad, just for PR purposes, in the same way that the AAA offers defensive driving courses?

Because the NRA has a recently interpretation (favorable) of the second amendment for a fall back.  A whole bunch of "suck it" is all you will get from them.  Which is right and proper, IMHO.

Wait, what?  You think guns should be wholly uncontrolled in this country?  Really?

/don't want to have to buy a gun just to scare off the pro-gun assholes.

On my Winchester 12, I can release the hammer and then just cock it when I'm ready to fire.  I beleive my mossburg does indeed have a safety.

safety switch is unnecessary with a shotgun in this situation
keep it breached, like I was taught to, until you need to shoot it - this hunter was stupid

If you obtain a gun, there is a statistical probability that it will be used to shoot a particular person. Do you know who that person is?

Where I hail from, "Yo Mam" is the preferred variant - but either way, it is permissible.

That's the wonderful thing about the "four rules"  - even if you only manage to follow one of them, you should be OK if you fark up the other three. He was following zero of them.

No, that's merely a mechanical suggestion that the weapon not fire.  They can still fail.  Treat it as though it doesn't exist and you'll be better for it.

Not too many waterfowl hunters carry upland bird shotguns.

Or not leaving a loaded gun with a round in the chamber in a boat with a farking dog with the muzzle pointed at himself.
