Be afraid. Be very afraid. In unarmed combat between a boar and a human the human always loses, often with serious damage to the calf muscles or even the knees. Boars do not retreat, they charge. Head-on, a 38 or 9mm is unlikely to stop them until they're right on top of you.

Had a boar charge me once when I was part of a group of 10 very heavily armed guys, all with automatic weapons. We panicked and scrambled up trees.

I'm thinking we won't have to worry about boars if the spent fuel rods from Reactor 4 come tumbling down from their damaged building.

I remember there being a thread about some dude who was openly carrying a rifle (IIRC, AR-15) in West Texas (and then having someone call the cops on him) and the thread was split evenly between:

* GUNS BAD.
* Texas, LULZ
* Legal open carry.  Why did the cops even bother to show up?
* Really, he was only carrying a [insert gun here]?  They have boars out there and boars are nasty BIG bastards.  I'd be carrying a [Insert much, much, much larger gun of choice].  [Boar Spear.jpg]

West Texas?  Must have been a tourist who called it in.  No, seriously.  Ranchers outside the big cities carry all manner of fire arm in and out of their ranches.  General rule is if you are on a ranch, and you cant see the house, carry a gun.    It sounds silly till you run into yer first poisonous snake by yer car, or 10 coyotes or a 500lb angry slab of bacon.  And that's just Georgetown.

Around hunting season, guns, guns everywhere (outside the cities).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boar_spear

FTA:  A boar spear is a spear used for boar hunting. It is relatively short and heavy and has two "lugs" or "wings" on the spearsocket behind the blade, which act as a barrier to prevent an injured and furious boar from working its way up the shaft of the spear to attack the hunter.

Not pussies, smart.

I'm confused. Are you suggesting the 10 men armed with automatic weapons were smart to climb the tree because they didn't have a 7' stick with a sharp end?

I'm saying that the men were smart because their semi-automatic weapons were fairly useless.

Boars were so nasty that they could work their way up a 7' long spear with the spear sticking through them and kill the hunter.  Boar's are the PCP addicts of the animal world.

Legal guns ain't gonna do crap against that.  Bazookas, maybe.  Guns, no.
