So now they're the heroes who stopped the invasion of Syria?

I guess it had nothing to do with Kerry and Putin finding a way put of it.

I'm watching on C-SPAN2. There's got to be a web stream out there somewhere.

"Because we're too busy fighting Obamacare?"

"How many more Americans will have to see their wages or their hours cut as a result of this ill-conceived law before we do something about this?" Vitter asked.

Business owners, in an effort to avoid having to pay for healthcare for their employees, will cut employee hours to 39 so none of them are "full-time." And this is the fault of Obamacare.

This is what Republicans actually think.

Maybe he wants an easy reference point for when his political career actually ended.

Even GOP members like McCain have some sense of how to pick their battles. This is the kind of stuff that will lead to a party purge sooner than later.

Am I the only person who realizes that the vast majority of those people will now qualify for Medicaid, and get 100% free health care, because their employer doesn't want to try to cover them?

But it won't even accomplish that. At least Rand Paul's filibuster was (i) actually a filibuster and (ii) raised the profile of a serious issue, even though it was raised stupidly and in bad faith. This is literally nothing more than a man who wants to talk keep talking for absolutely no reason.

The cutoff is actually under 30 hours - it's so employers aren't forced to insure part time employees. This has led to some part time or borderline part time workers to have their hours cut to under 30 hours. But of course the GOP's disinformation campaign is going to make it sound like everybody is going to get their hours cut.

Whip the right into a lather?

I mean, I think Obamacare has become a useful strawman on which conservatives can project all manner of domestic ills. Can't get a job? Obamacare. Boss cuts your hours? Obamacare. Falling behind in your mortgage payments? Obamacare. Economy sucks? Obamacare. People are working hard to subsidize folks who are milking the system? Obamacare. Health care costs increase? Obamacare.

It's a useful whipping boy, and a useful distraction from the systematic problems in our economy (and, really, society as a whole).

Even other republicans know better than to voice that opinion. He is just incapable of saying any part of Obamacare is good.

And now he is literally saying "if you can't get insurance, just get a better job". The longer he talks, the more footage he's just providing for future election opponents.

It was more long-winded , but yes.

His analogy was fire insurance. "You can't expect coverage on your house after it's already burned down".

I'm not sure this is doing him any good but really we should have had a forum like this, and more of an open debate, a long time ago.

Also he's a politician and there wasn't a better opportunity to hog the spotlight and control some sort of narrative better than now. This is a huge issue to many Americans --most Americans don't want the ACA, so it could be a game well played by Cruz. We will see. There's a lot to criticize, and will make for some crazy shiat.

That's such a mornic analogy.

A better one would be that you get denied insurance on your new house after your other house burned down. As far as I know, homeowners insurance doesn't work this way.

Obamacare is very bad--if you hated the health care industry before, it's now going to get massive, defense industry level.

Good. We're awesome at making shiat that kills people. Let's put that much effort or more into keeping people from getting sick and dying of preventable diseases.

More or less. His argument was about campaign promises.
- before WWII, lots of senators promised to stay out of the war
- Pearl Harbor happened
- senators and constituents changed their minds, just like they've changed their minds about Obamacare now.

Why doesn't he just fall on the floor and kick his little feet and pound his fists until he gets his diaper changed.
