Unions hate Obamacare and rejected it because it doesn't work.  I know this is true because Ted Cruz said so.

Oh noes! Now he won't be invited to any cocktail parties!!

(Republicans don't have cocktail parties? That's just a liberal thing? Really?)

Also, if you are a Democrat, you can just get an exemption, anyway.

Jeff Sessions is a crank. What is he even talking about?

Sen. Sessions just made it seem like he had a grand revelation what "single-payer" means, as if he just discovered the truth about Soylent Green.

NeoCortex42: Fuggin Bizzy: DamnYankees: This is endlessly hilarious - he's literally just giving a long speech. That's it. it's not a filibuster, as C-SPAN helpfully explained:

[pbs.twimg.com image 599x326]

Well, I guess then he's scheduled to tip over and fall on his ass before the Senate votes Wednesday.

/Unless he doesn't give a shiat about the comity of the Senate.
//Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Willis? This is comity gold!

I'd love him to somehow last until morning, and then refuse to yield the floor for the vote.

Anyone knows what happens if this actually goes down?

Could police and guns potentially get involved?

/this could be interesting. And not in the good guys win kind of way.

noheadphones: Ha!  I'm claiming that prices for pharmies will skyrocket because of requirements to pay into the ACA, not as a result of competition (which drives prices down actually).  Similar to the California Energy Crisis--partly to do with overwhelming demand for limited energy, driving up prices.   Obamacare is not a monopoly either--it's a statute, which has, to a degree, consolidated healthcare coverage under the umbrella of the federal government.

Ideally someone rushes the podium with a hard cane and beats him about the face with it.

I want to say contempt of Congress and escorted off the premises,  but it will never come to that. Cruz won't last until morning.

Has there been any instance of someone refusing to yield the floor when they had to, at least in modern times?

I nominate John McCain. He must have a lot of pent up frustration, knowing that he caused the destruction of his own party by choosing Palin as a running mate

noheadphones: raerae1980: noheadphones: I'm simplifying, everyone has to pay for it

I don't think that is the definition of monopoly.

In, a  government-granted monopoly (also called a "de jure monopoly") is a form of by which a government grants exclusive privilege to a private individual or firm to be the sole provider of a good or service; potential competitors are excluded from the market by,, or other mechanisms of government enforcement. As a form of, government-granted monopoly is contrasted with a  non-coercive monopoly or anefficiency monopoly, where there is no competition but it is not forcibly excluded.

Yes, yes. We all know what a monopoly is, whether organic or mandated. How in the world do you get that from ANY aspect of ACA? If health care was a mandated monopoly, run by the government on a non profit basis you would have a system like Canada's which provides generally better care with better outcomes on a universal basis. Countries that have implemented this type of system pay a fraction of the US for better care. You guys aren't there yet. If you made the incredibly stupid move to make a private, for profit monopoly of health care, you're argument would make sense.

Shostie: I'm really sorry guys.

If it wasn't for the Texas redistricting lawsuit, you wouldn't have to deal with this joker.

Granted, it would be a different joker, but probably a little less Tea Party-y.

Again. Sorry.

Dude, at least he wasn't a partner in your law firm. You didn't have to see him every day.

So embarrassed.

He should read The Giving Tree as a national wake-up call against the nanny state.

Then Bridge to Terabithia as a fantasy yarn about two lovable kids who... oh God why did you do that to me?! This is horrible!

A "straight answer"?  I have heard tales of such things. They are a rare sight indeed in DC.

So Cruz doesn't want employer-provided health care or exchanges?  What is his solution then?  Single payer?

2013-09-24 10:22:02 PM
Has there ever been a more retarded attempt at grandstanding than this "fake filibuster"?

And per Ezra Klein: "Cruz opposes raising taxes on the wealthy. The public supports it. Cruz opposes gun control. The public supports it. Cruz supports sharply cutting spending on Medicare and Social Security. The public opposes it. If Cruz actually believed his job was directly representing the will of the people, his voting record would be extremely different than it is. ...Cruz's filibuster is self-refuting."
