Gilligann: What happened?

This isn't a filibuster.  It's just bluster on Cruz control.

2013-09-24 07:10:23 PM

DamnYankees: Corvus: Republicans have "a rare opportunity to defund this law with a simple majority," McConnell added. "We should have that vote."

Umm how exactly? I love how Republicans can just out and out say something wrong and news won't point out that their full of shiat because they don't want to look "biased".

He's not wrong. The GOP can just not filibuster this, and then the defund bill can pass with a majority. I mean, the fact that it WON'T doesn't mean it can't.

I thought it then went to Obama's desk where he would then give it a big veto? Can Obama not veto this for some reason?

Gilligann: I can't keep up. I thought Cruz decided not to filibuster the bill.

What happened?

My guess:

Cruz painted himself into a corner. He cried to Reid and promised he would be a good boy if he could just pretend to filibuster to save face. Reid said ok.

The thing is, everyone knows this bill is dead, but the TP is convinced that they can somehow get this passed and Obama will fold.  I'm not sure where in their psychosis they get that idea from, but that's their mindset.

What is it about Ted Cruz that makes me think of Bunny Breckinridge?

He's heading up the highway to the dangerzone.

Actually I don't even think that is true. They just what the US to go to hell during Obama's watch and don't give a shiat even if it's the Republicans doing. You know how many think we should not pass the debt ceiling increase under ANY circumstance?

They are just throwing a fit because they lost an election. That's really it. They are children throwing a 5 year tantrum.

They were doing this before the election though.  they seem to honestly think that they can let the world burn, then skirt the responsibility for doing that, and sadly, there are people who seem to buy that pitch hook line and sinker.

Cool!  Can we kneecap him?

2013-09-24 07:21:01 PM
Isn't the vote he's fillabustering tomorrow?

That would be like talking really loud to drown out a speaker that isn't on for an hour.

It's normal Republican "Self-Responsibility" - "It's Obama's fault for making us do this!!"

Not just that. It's also because they have been unable to repeal Obamacare and gay marriage is now socially acceptable.

2013-09-24 07:24:02 PM
oh lord. Death panels are an unchecked bureaucracy.   100% premium increases.  Federal funds used for abortions.

It's every lie ever told.

Blues_X: James!:  So he's filibustering (ish) the republican bill?

Yes. So that he can defund the affordable healthcare act. Which he  cannot do by filibustering this bill.

I'm starting to think that the idea that he's trying this stunt to defund Obamacare is just a smokescreen, to get people to underestimate him.

I think his real goal here is simply to try and force a government shutdown, by tying things up until the clock runs out.

Can't WAIT until that little piece becomes more known in Tea Bagger world. The temper tantrums are going to be AWESOME.

Why would you think that the fact impaired would let, you know, reality stand in the way of their heroic-stand narrative?

I'm sure I've got some moron on my facebook feed right now yammering about how much braver Ted Cruz is than Wendy Davis.

@RepMarkTakano  Ted Cruz, Ima let you finish but...

When I try to picture that path, it ends up looking like Johnny Smith's prophecy from The Dead Zone.

It doesn't matter what it is though. The Stimulus was the largest Tax cut in history. "Obamacare" is a Republican plan. It's not about what it is, it's just that a Democrat is being successful.

I know I'm part of the problem, but I love a good old fashioned filibuster. I don't especially care what the person is on about, either. If you feel THAT strongly about something, stand and fight. The entertainment factor gained by laughing at your impotent passion is just a bonus. Don't whimp out.

Reading these posts gave me a question.

Has anyone in the past filibustered to prevent a bill from getting defeated?

Vitter's the perfect man for a long filibuster since he wears diapers.

2013-09-24 07:45:18 PM
I checked it out over at C-SPAN, within 30 seconds he was derping about asshole employers cutting hours to 29 hours in order to not insure their employees and blaming Congress and Obama for that.

Of course, this is Tea Party land, where private power and privilege can do not wrong, and that should it appear that private power is pulling a dick move, well, it's because the government made them do it. Government is always the bad guy, and jerb kreators are always benevolent.

I like it.  Maybe the one thing Ted Cruz has done that I agree with.

Obamacare is very bad--if you hated the health care industry before, it's now going to get massive, defense industry level.

Dusk-You-n-Me: Link

WaPo misses the point. Everyone outside the Tea Party thinks this is incredibly stupid and pointless. This a giant performance piece, and "listening to America" is a line the TP eats up like candy. The whole point is to play to the Tea Party base without doing any real damage, and it'll work fantastically.

I recall a bunch of farkers arguing for Single-payer but that was shot down quickly.   *shrugs*  This is what we get.
