Cruz says he'll talk until 'I am no longer able to stand'

Is any Senator equipped with a crowbar?

2013-09-24 03:28:00 PM
Has anyone told him ObamaCare is part of mandatory funding, and this will have little to no effect on its implementation?

No? Good! Let him find out the hard way.

2013-09-24 03:30:12 PM
Maybe he'll have a heart attack

He doesn't strike me as one who would let reality stand in the way of a truly meaningless gesture

So he's filibustering (ish) the republican bill?

2013-09-24 03:41:22 PM

James!: So he's filibustering (ish) the republican bill?

Yes. So that he can defund the affordable healthcare act. Which he cannot do by filibustering this bill.

The only happy part is that he doesn't even have republican support so he'll have to actually talk.

Nothing says "I'm a serious politician" than staging a mock filibuster that hurts your image nationally, hurts the image of your party, has no real chance of succeeding, and, even if miraculously successful, would not achieve the stated effect you desire, all the while potentially harming the entirety of the US economy.

2013-09-24 03:52:21 PM
It's grandstanding for the Tea Party.  This gives every TPer primarying a Republican ammo to use in the primaries, including against McConnell.  Remember, Cruz is the VP of the NRSC (which is there to re-elect Republican Senators) who is out raising money for groups that are trying to oust Republican Senators.  There is nothing this guy won't do for the Tea Party.

It'll play well on the 10:00 PM Mouthbreather Channel news back home, which is all he gives a shiat about at this point in his career.

Jebus. I was googling for facts to go with a comment about Cruz being a shameless self-promoter and came across this:

http://www.senate.gov/senators/113th_Congress/Cruz_Ted.htm

It makes my point far better than what I was going to say.

Disclaimer: Read it at your peril. I'm completely gobsmacked.

I'm really sorry guys.

If it wasn't for the Texas redistricting lawsuit, you wouldn't have to deal with this joker.

Granted, it would be a different joker, but probably a little less Tea Party-y.

Again. Sorry.

Why would you think that the fact impaired would let, you know, reality stand in the way of their heroic-stand narrative?

I'm sure I've got some moron on my facebook feed right now yammering about how much braver Ted Cruz is than Wendy Davis.

2013-09-24 04:33:26 PM
I was going to ask if he had a catheter put in for this but then I realized he would just piss on his leg and tell the public it's raining.

"I intend to speak in support of defunding Obamacare until I am no longer able to stand," he said. "All across this country Americans are suffering because of Obamacare. Obamacare isn't working."

Has anyone told him it hasn't been fully implemented yet? I'm pretty sure the (R)'s know the affordable care act is not going to be nearly as bad as they have been saying. In fact it might even work. They have sunk 4 years into telling us it's the end of our nation as we know it. Comments like these reek of desperation.

I'm expecting the fact impaired to believe Cruz's filibuster will STOP OBAMACARE. When it doesn't, I am hoping for a sh*t ton of crying. A SH*T TON.

Should be fun. Won't last long and certainly won't change tard views, but really hopeful they are being set up for a HUGE disappointment.

From your link:
Ted's father was born in Cuba, fought in the revolution, and was imprisoned and tortured...

Nothing about which side he fought for in the revolution.
Also nothing about where "Ted" was born.

The US Senate is supposed to be a stately old boys club where members of both parties jerk each other off while they count their money and have polite philosophical discussions over glasses of scotch.

Ted Cruz is farking that all up.

His disregard for tradition and authority and his rudeness have led some to describe him as "Jim DeMint without the charm", and others to say , "I farking hate Ted Cruz."

Part of me worries he actually might become President someday - I can see the path. I don't think its likely, but possible.

The only way I could see that happening is if the Democrats put up someone as lame as Anthony Wiener. Cruz is shrewd enough to fleece rubes here in Texas by spouting Tea Party buzzwords, but without the support of the Republican establishment he's dead in the water.

Republicans have "a rare opportunity to defund this law with a simple majority," McConnell added. "We should have that vote."

Umm how exactly? I love how Republicans can just out and out say something wrong and news won't point out that their full of shiat because they don't want to look "biased".

Hey Teatards, your "leaders" think you are idiots!

I am very nervous about Rand Paul. I have left wing friends that wrongly think he is some civil libertarian.

I think either Ted Cruz is playing some weird Hunger Games strategy, daring moderate Republicans to join Democrats and break his filibuster in an attempt to clear out any next-in-line 2016 primary concerns... or he's blasted out of his mind on prescription painkillers.

2013-09-24 06:56:04 PM
It's cute he can do this high profile act and then slink away and let the bill go through to save face and the teatards will eat it up with a spoon.

Once Obama sees that Congress has defunded his law with a simple majority, he will simply give up like he did with Syria.

/headline altered for better alliteration

I can't keep up. I thought Cruz decided not to filibuster the bill.

What happened?

2013-09-24 07:03:42 PM
I said this in an earlier thread, but much more relevant here.

It's not altogether too dumb a move.  Teatards don't know and don't care about how government works, and they eat this kind of political theater up like it's puppy chow.  They'll flood him with cash come election time.

2013-09-24 07:04:01 PM
This is going to be epic until you realize when it won't affect anything and then Ted will be the biggest liberal ever.

He's not wrong. The GOP can just not filibuster this, and then the defund bill can pass with a majority. I mean, the fact that it WON'T doesn't mean it can't.
