Not clicking on a link that thinks Cruz is in any way similar to Reagan.

I'm too young to remember Reagan in office.  However, I am old enough to see how his treatment of the mentally ill has panned out.

Reagan himself would backhand the asshole that made that comparison

Yes he was. The list is pretty long of all the shiat he screwed up. That he's still considered a great president is a tragedy.

Yeah, that's the best comparison here: both scumbags who exploited the worst part of the political climate of their day for their own gain.

I just hope Cruz goes all the way with this and ends up like McCarthy: drinking himself to death, ignored in the back benches of the Senate.

Ted Cruz is extremely smart and without scruples. We rate him half a Reagan.

No.

Reagan was the first president I voted for (18 in 1980). I was in the military until '86. I thought he was the GREATEST. Of course, I knew next to nothing beyond he was making the military "better".

It wasn't until I was around 30 that I realized what a gigantic pile of shiat he had created.

I eagerly await the pretzel logic that will ensue when he announces his presidential run in 2016 among the birthers.

Reagan had eight years in power as president, instituting policies we're still trying to get out from under. Cruz doesn't have near that power now, and hopefully WILL never have that power.

You forgot in the closet self loather.

Not that theres anything wrong with that, except of course the being closeted part and the self loathing.

I can see him easily getting the 2016 nomination. Winning the general? No way. But getting the nomination? Totally. After the disaster of Romney, I can see things going full on derp at the convention. I know it's still three years out, but things look like they're going to dial the derp up to 11.

slogans like "I voted to repeal Obamacare" all the while knowing the vote was meaningless mush and would do not a thing to damage the most unpopular government program since the Vietnam-era draft.

Oh wow. Well, if it's unpopular then we shouldn't do it. But wait - Cruz's rhetoric is increasingly unpopular with his fellow Republicans, and TFA is telling me that's a good thing.

I'm so confused.

One side effect of the Overton Window crawling ever-rightward is that the GOP has nowhere to go but "insane".

Sometimes I wonder if even the John Birch Society is "too liberal" for the Teabaggers.

If they follow the "taking turns" methodology it's gong to be either Paul Ryan or Rick Santorum.

Power-brokerage is less clear, Rove did some dirt and may or may not be a part of the game now, the Kochs have a short attenton span, and  the whole thing is shadowy.

They're going insane awfully fast, too.  As recently as a few weeks ago the local (Boston-area) right-wing radio station was at least coherent.  The hosts and callers were at least similar to the right-wing trolls we get here - unaware and uncaring about all the facts of the issues they whined about, but at least their whines made sense given that context.  Just listening every so often the past week, it's been ridiculous.  Today they were whining about the hostage situation in Africa and saying that it's going to happen here next - blaming Islam and left-wingers as always (but this time without any real reason why) and generally worried that this attack will cause the US to finally ban AR-15s for some reason.  And at one point the host said that a caller wouldn't come on the air because she claimed her phone was being tapped and when he spoke with her off the air she asked him personal questions because she didn't believe she was talking to him personally, she thought he had been replaced by the government because he wasn't sticking to the narrative 100%.  Of course, the host pointed the finger not at himself for spreading a message of fear and hate but at Obama for creating this level of paranoia in our nation.

These people are getting more and more afraid because they are told to be more and more afraid.  The next national election is over a year away and I'm genuinely worried what these people who are being fed constant doses of fear and hate will do either before the elections or after them when it doesn't go their way.

Rafael Eduardo "Ted" Cruz ..... so are you telling me that President Reagan's real first name was Ronaldo?

Much less exciting than the musical about the ungifted Puerto Rican drag queen who thought she was Reagan.

Yep.  He kicked them out of the mental hospitals which allowed them to organize forming what we know today as "Tea Party Republicans".  His motives were way more sinister than even initially thought.

When there was all that talk about a "surprise guest" at the Republican nominating convention in 2012, I was half expecting a holographic Reagan (think Tupac at Coachella).

Cruz looks like some alien scout from a hostile, warlike empire sent here to placate/prepare the humanpigs for the arrival of the X'goth Meat Harvester Ships, but his human disguise doesn't look quite right.

I am sure we would get more leadership and decisiveness out of Reagan, even in his current condition today, then what we're seeing out of the current occupant of the White House.
