Slaps her on the back.

How in the hell can somebody charge that much for face cream? Is it made from Seabiscuit's semen?

2013-09-24 01:16:20 PM
I'd give her some face cream for free. Trisomeeeow

Down Syndrome or not, it's easy to take advantage of people who shop at the Pen Centre.

(ie: The mall sucks)

How can you laugh?

She carries that much cash on her? Maybe her social worker should start checking to make sure she has 20 bucks or so on a shopping trip.

"Gordon said she demanded a refund and it wasn't until she raised her voice and a small crowd of shoppers gathered that she succeeded in getting deJong's money back.

Still annoyed about the transaction, Gordon went home and posted an account on Facebook. It went viral."

This Gordon character sounds like a real biatch.

The thing that was most surprising to me was that cosmetics that were so pricey were being sold from a kiosk. I thought stuff that upscale was usually only sold at those hoity-toity department stores or boutiques.

I don't see what's wrong with this. Most of capitalism is about selling useless things to gullible people, this person just happens to be slightly more gullible than most.

Did you see the picture in the article? The person needs a lot of face cream. A horse's load actually.

To be fair anyone who pays that much is likely mentally disabled in some way.

We have these kiosks at the malls around here. They have the most retarded yet pushiest sales ladies. The people who buy from them are exactly the same people that fall for email scams.

You ever notice how lots of middle-aged women seem to have Robocop's face on a sausage body? The creams are too expensive to go much below the neck.

I don't know why there so expensive, all I can point out is the result.

After reading the headlines I thought the down syndrome lady was the seller of the product and not the swindled customer.
Pretty expensive for mall lotion. Can't imagine it is actually deserving of the cost. Made with fresh fetal stem cells?

I guess they should rethink that, or give her something with a much smaller limit.

So as a business owner what is the proper way to handle something like this?

Would it be legally discriminatory to put a "no retards" sign upfront?

By the way-- that's a real mental illness, unlike autism or SAD or Aspergers or any of the other fake diseases we're always hearing about. Retarded people deserve our patience and sympathy. Hyperactive kids and nerds need discipline and social skills.

I've seen studies (I think they were on Fark), the expensive face creams don't do any better then the cheap generic brands.  My oldest sister use to sell Avon and work at Osco's, she gets complements on her skin constantly.  I remember her saying she use to use the more expensive Avon, but switch to the generic osco (now CVS) version. It was the same effect for a lower price.

Also those women with "Robocop's face on a sausage body ", yeah it's called cosmetic surgery, either lifts or botox.

Have your salesperson say "eleven dollars and thirty-five cents" instead of "eleven thirty-five."

I think it's makeup too, I mean the skin is just not the same color as the torso. Yet another reason to avoid women over 35.

Someone else already mentioned this, but its clear this person doesnt have the faculties to understand money... she would of had to sign and/or authorize the ammount on the pinpad before the transaction was complete...

Just no way to win here... if you dont sell to them you are evil, if you do sell you are even more evil for taking advantage... someone with the IQ of a five year old should be allowed to handle money just because its PC

I'm confused.  A woman who mistakenly pays $1700 for a few jars of face cream is retarded, but the women who purposely pay $1700 for a few jars of face cream are not?  Crazyworld.

Can you even enter into a sales contract with someone like this...looking a little down?

If you "sold" a nine year old a $20 item at a fair, even if it really is worth $20...thats not a valid sale, parents could come by and demand a refund and get it.

You're right-- autism is real.  But it's grossly over diagnosed, just like depression and a host of other ailments that are impossible to prove.  Most autistic people are either underachievers or poorly behaved children.

Autism and Aspergers are common copouts for nerds and their weakling parents.  Between that and the "no bullying" purge we've seen in the last few years, it's a great time to be a geek.  These are the golden days of nerddom.

She is trying to live as independently as possible. Even as a cold hearted Republican I think she deserves patience, guidance and help to achieve her goals. She is accomplishing more than a lot who live solely on the government dole and who are not handicapped in any way. The kiosk people are just shower (translate to French) bags.

as an incompetent the contract would be voidable.  for example, if she had been drunk during the sale she would have the ability, after returning to sobriety, to either affirm the contract and keep the cream in exchange for the money, or she could void the contract, return the cream (no matter what state it's in), and recover all of the money she paid.

but i don't think retarded people can just sober up, so this is a decision her guardian would need to make on her behalf.
