They are all from Atlantic City, NJ - so most likely they are ghetto shiateholes.

When I was a kid my family actually stayed in a motel on Indiana or something like that because we were cheap.  It was a complete dump but  I don't remember seeing any actual bullet holes in the walls or windows and the bedding didn't give me any STDsin which was an unusual twist for us .

The period before gambling was legalized was even odder.  The funnest thing to do on the Boardwalk at that time was to pump quarters into electrified "Disco Duck" machine where a duck with a gold chain around it's neck would "dance" for a bit of corn meal.  The whole place was an act of masochism.

Where's the place where someone shoves the whole thing off the table, says "fark you", and storms off?

Atlantic City?  I did not know that.

Illinois Ave still exists but was renamed Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd in the 1980s.

RUN!

So the Dark Purples are a shiathole, the Oranges are working-class, the Yellows are nice but overpriced, and the Greens look palatial if you have the money to put into them.

Sounds about right.

Needs railroads, electric company, water works, free parking and most of all the jail.

The orange spaces are the best on the board. There are more events that send a player to jail than any other space and the orange spaces are the most statistically likely landing spots when rolling from jail.

I visited there last year.  Didn't go to any casinos, but I did stroll the Boardwalk for awhile, went up Absecon Lighthouse, and visited the Ripley museum.  (The ticket seller had the most delightfully musical accent and a laugh to match - turns out she was from Lithuania.)

Cool. I've never seen that before.  We don't play anymore due to the large number of superior games available to our regular group but it's still an interesting article.

Yeah, that was an amusing and interesting article. I knew about the Atlantic City connection, but it's neat to put an actual picture to the names.

Cool stuff. The author of TFA actually ENHANCED life. That's definitely a change.

A lot of things can break up a dysfunctional family, but nothing is more destructive than Monopoly.

I am still yet to complete a game of Monopoly on the actual board game. Either we get bored and stop playing or my girlfriend flips the board and runs out weeping.

non-existent

just like in the rules

Never completed a whole game either. Usually we all got bored and switched to playing Life.

If your family falls to pieces playing Monopoly or Risk, don't even think about trying Diplomacy.

At this point, I've come to the conclusion that no monopoly game has ever been finished if you're playing by the actual rules. You pretty much HAVE to cheat, and even then it still usually ends in a stalemate or a flipped board..

Somaticasual: At this point, I've come to the conclusion that no monopoly game has ever been finished if you're playing by the actual rules.

Actually, if you're playing by the proper rules, most Monopoly games can be completed in a matter of hours.

It's when people introduce stupid house rules that juice income -- like putting all tax money in the center to be claimed by the next person to land on Free Parking -- that drag Monopoly games forever. Free Parking is exactly what it says -- free. You don't win or earn anything by landing on it. The game is structured specifically so that all the money will eventually make its way back to the bank (except the winner). When the rules are changed to keep the money on the board, sloshing back and forth between participants, that's when it takes forever to play.
