(Huffington Post)   It's completely unfair to say that the 42 votes the House has taken to defund Obamacare were worthless and meaningless wastes of time, after all, they HAVE helped House Democrats raise tons and tons of cash from the law's supporters   (huffingtonpost.com) divider line 12

Infernalist: roadkillontheweb: I suspect the long term goal is to make sure nothing B.O. does is successful?
10 years down the road if B.O. is considered a failure as a president (not the hundreds of idiots that are causing the problem that history will forget) the first black president will be the last black president and they will have achieved their goal? The childish actions of the GOP has gone well beyond the imagination of the greatest fiction writers could have predicted 6 years ago.

Bear in mind, the 'do-nothing' Congress is still remembered, some 70+ years later.  If their efforts are to tarnish Obama's presidency with inaction, I think they're in for a painful surprise when the history books are written.

You can't discuss the Obama presidency without discussing the Tea Party.  They will be intrinsically tied together in history.  Obama's presidency is more greatly defined by his opposition's reaction than by anything he said or did.

History will not be kind to the Tea Party.

Heliovdrake: Question.

Has any party ever tried to vote on the same issue so many times?

Is the modern GOP the first to be this dumb?

I seriously doubt anyone else has gone this far.

While symbolic votes aren't unheard of or even necessarily a bad thing, I've never heard of a case where multiple symbolic votes were held on the exact same issue in a relatively short length of time, let alone 40+.  At this point, no matter how legitimate of a point you are trying to make (not that I see this particular point as legitimate), you are just wasting time and money.

Exactly. The Republicans hate Obama so much that they'd rather see America fail than Obama succeed.

While the push to defund Obamacare has been a boon to fundraising on both sides

That's the only reason Republicans keep doing it. Make their base think they're bravely standing on principle.

I would think the usual big money donors to the GOP would be keeping their checkbooks closed this election cycle as they probably don't care about all the nonsense like abortion and gay marriage but they should care about the threat the GOP poses to the economy.

If the Democrats do get back in power, the first thing they need to do is make it nearly impossible to play games with raising the debt ceiling ever again, that it automatically goes up unless two-thirds of Congress votes against it. Then end the gerrymandering by requiring the proportion of representatives sent by each state to match the overall vote in each state. Then undo all the anti-voting laws and shenanigans so people can vote.

So what are you biatching about then? Democrats will sweep the House and they'll be back in power. Instead of screaming at Republicans you ought to be thanking them for being extremists and completely out of touch with Real America, which is going to hand them their asses at the polls next year.

I know this is going to be just about impossible for you to fathom, but SOME people actually want the best for their country, regardless of electoral advantage. Yes I know, it seems impossible, how could anyone not be a grasping selfish hunk of shiat like you? Just accept that decent humans exist and try to only harm yourself from now on okay?

verbaltoxin: js34603: What good is giving money to House Democrats? They already support the ACA, the problem is there aren't enough of them.

If you're going to donate money because you support the ACA you'd be better served donating to Democrats running against House Republicans, not the guys who are already there with "aw shucks nothing we can do, guess I'll just keep collecting checks" looks on their faces.

Because some of the incumbent Democrat seats are in vulnerable districts.

Agreed, you want to donate some to vulnerable Dems, but also to the Dem candidates in the districts that might be winnable next time around. How many do they need to flip the house? Pick that many seats (plus a few more to be safe) and pour as much money as you can into those races. Its possible, even with gerrymandering at the level its at, to win back enough seats to flip the house.
