It was all in preparation for the next years Emmys where they just hold a Breaking Bad Revival show and give them every award, including comedy series for Bob Odenkirk

Who cared enough to even watch the Emmys last night? Low Winter Sun was on.

Why watch a mediocre show that is not likely to be renewed?

Meh. More fun watching reruns of Luther.

So are people freaking out that Jeff Daniels won and not Cranston or Hamm? Maybe everyone is still asleep, but the outrage I expected to see all over hasn't surfaced yet.

Also, happy for Tony Hale.

I honestly wasn't even aware the Emmys were last night.   Judging by the results, I don't think there is any rhyme or reason to who wins or loses.  They pick names out of a hat, or perhaps it is which show can provide the most bribes to voters.

There was a twitter post that explained some of how the Daniels win happened.

Apparently anyone who works for the networks with shows up for consideration gets to vote, and HBO has the most employees of any network.  They are more likely to vote for the people on their network shows than the shows themselves, which is why Canavale and Daniels won but Breaking Bad still won the Best Drama award.

Channels like AMC have the least amount of employees so they fall behind in number of voters while HBO and Showtime have the most.  It does go pretty far to explain how Edie Falco kept winning for Nurse Jackie as well.

Seriously. I used to be a real, live TV critic, and I haven't watched them since I stopped getting paid to do so. Life's too short to watch a prison circle-jerk.

ManateeGag: it was pretty bad.  that was the absolute worst memorial I have ever seen.  EXTREME closeups of everyone's face, not video of anyone, sad really.

The way they did the memorials was bizarre.  I think you do need to have a special tribute when someone who is a legend in the industry dies, but I don't think that some of the people who got singled out deserved that special tribute any more than some of the people who just ended up in the Roll Call of The Dead later.  And the repeated memorials kept bringing the show down.

I set up the DVR to record Low Winter Sun last night in case it didn't pick up on the extra 15 minutes in Breaking Bad. This morning, the wife turns to me and asks if I recorded that so I can watch it. I laughed so hard I snarfed Cheerios.

It's close not not the complete story

The nominees are voted on by members of the academy and members vote in their selected group, performers for performers and directors for directors, writers for writers, etc...

The actual winners are selected from a volunteer judging panel and this panel is also grouped by peers.

Yes, he was a big part of season 3. Butthat doesn't mean he deserved to win. He was so over-the-top and cartoonish, a caricature of a villain. If anyone on that show should've won, it was Jack Huston.

I thought it was nice to see lesser lights be shown Emmy love.  The actors people expected to win are fairly well known, and will be fine. That being said, the tributes were a bit awkward, and spacing them out like that impacted the show.

I also don't understand why the producers thought playing Solomon and judging who was worthy of extra special attention would reflect well on them. Folks have and will argue the merits of individuals who were featured or weren't, but that only matters to the people who knew them well, and those people have worse problems than the amount of screen time a loved one received at an award show. But why put yourself in the cross hairs by tagging so few people to be memorialized at length, while others get sporadic applause based on Q scores? I always thought applause should be held during memorium montages. It seems disrespectful that an actor get that much applause, and the casting director gets applause from a few, who may just be polite.

The Elton John song was not germane to the Emmys or Liberace. And why tribute a man because the biopic that made him look like an ass is up for rewards? I though Michael Douglas' acceptance was funny on a personal level, but seemed really odd in the context of having just heard about gay people being forced into the closet decades ago. And the listing of nominess during the presentation of writing awards featured the funniest stuff on the show.

I flipped over to it during the Bears/Steelers game. It went something like "Hey everyone are you having a good time? Well not anymore. Remember when JFK died? That was horrible, let's relive it..." then I switched back.

It's not really relevant but I wanted to put it out there for anyone who hasn't seen the show. I downloaded and rewatched the first season over the last week and blown away again by how great it is. I can't remember if the subsequent seasons went down from there or not, but the first season is fantastic.

The Doogie Howser guy... i'm sorry, but he's simply not charasmatic....  Sure, he can sing and dance, but there's no charm about him that draws the audience in... Take Josh Gordon Hewitt, on the other hand... he can sing and dance, but he's able to maintain a humor about himself.  It puts the audience in his corner.   Doogie Howser doesn't have that ability.

Really, the Newsroom should fire everyone except for Jeff Daniels, Jane Fonda and Sam Watterson--for some reason, they can make Sorkin's words work really well.
