Slaves2Darkness: somedude210: As a government employee who already suffered furloughs this summer, fark you TeaTards. You have done nothing to improve this country and done everything to destroy it. I've got bills to pay and you're not helping matters

I don't know about that. The deficit is as low as it has been in ages and the debt looks manageable. Hell, if we just shut the government down every year when we run out of funding, maybe, just maybe, we will actually raise taxes and cut discretionary spending to the point that we no longer have a deficit.

Pop quiz. What is the largest catagory of discretionary spending we currently have on the books?

Your definition of "ages" differs from mine.

Kind of like an alcoholic that is down to a 24 pack a day.

// We could cut the entire discretionary budget, and barely be in the black, temporarily, not counting the economic impact of doing so.
// But starting another war is no way to cut Defense.

I was promised by fox news dot com that the sequester was actually going to be good for the country because...well, I don't think they gave a reason, I think they just pointed out that Obama didn't want it so it had to be good, but yeah. That's good enough for me and mine.

Obama didn't want the sequester?

It was his idea, of course he wanted it.

I'm told on Fark by FarkLibs at least five times a day that Barack "BOBby Fisher" Obama plays 4th dimension chess. He new the sequester was bad, and new Dim's wouldn't be n'sync with R's on a deal. It stands to reason that new kids on the block of the TeaPartyPatriots wouldn't extend the debt ceiling again, as America shouldn't, but Obama new they wouldn't.

When all that happens there is only one direction to go he will institute martial sharia law and appoint himself King as America burns under 98 degrees heat next summer. At that point theres no turning back. Street boys in the new black panthers will run our local governments.

we get paid far less than the private sector, we're often the first people to get hit with these economic decisions. Actually, no. If the dems, libs, and Farklibs would simply listen to what the Teabaggers are saying, maybe there wouldn't be so many misconceptions.

The Grand Old Party is working diligently to save America. The biggest job killing piece of legislation since the days of FDR is Obamacare, so it's important to tackle that first. But, BOB and the dems have been stubborn and have only changed Obamacare in ways that benefit their cronies, i.e. BOB and the dems have not been looking out for the American people. As Obamacare is slowly forced down the American people's throats, Republicans are keeping an open mind about ways to prevent the bungled, anti-Freedom legislation from destroying our Great Nation.

I'd bet it's a lot more that Obama keeps pitching traditionally Republican ideas. It's kind of hard to play partisan politics when he's just reading out of their book from 10-20 years ago.

And I think it's driving them crazy.

It's the method to his madness:  Trot out GOP ideas that mainstream Americans accept, then watch the GOP go apeshiat over it.

Defeating the GOP on this front is bigger than just the ACA.

If they set a precedent where they can just defund any law they don't happen to like, then no law is sacred. They can use the budget to punish their political enemies for passing laws they disagree with.

Have you read the ACA?  I don't think they lost at all, they just didn't outright win.  The fact that we have something like the ACA is a victory in that it begins to officially admit that health care in this country is fundamentally broken, from which point maybe some solutions can be found now that the problem has been omitted.  I very much doubt that ACA as written is going to be that solution.  Some of the fallout from the "improvements" and "compromises" made to it are going to cause much misery.

This is what happens when you send faux-ideologues to Congress, as opposed to competent legislators.

I get it. Folks are upset that the Libbiest Libs Who Ever Libbed a Lib have seats, and a President who speaks softly and lets you hit yourselves with your own stick, but at some point, maybe folks might want to STOP giving them ammunition to dun you with. Especially when the plan you oppose so much, was the pretty much the plan that you put forward a few years ago, and your Presidential nominee actually signed into law already.

I am NOT a fan of the ACA. It is a giveaway to the insurance industry, though less of one that Romney put forward in Mass--and perhaps THAT is the real feature that folks who are leading this "fight" have: it doesn't just give huge amounts of government cash directly to the middlemen to dole out at their leisure and a huge opportunities to turn that cash into interest elsewhere. It is still an awfully big giveaway that we might better use by not shuffling it between bank to bank to bank, and maybe actually see it in circulation. That was the modification that got it to pass though, and it still offers a better course than: hope y'all don't get sick and die. There's still a lot to do: mental health care in the nation has been gutted, jobs are still sparse, and the current model for "growth" apparently is more of the same house of cards shuffling and an assisted market model that only benefits a few, as opposed to opening up markets for real competition. For folks who claim that they want to see a free market, they are digging their heels in damn hard to prevent real competition and actual entrepreneurs to enter said markets. Coupled with a damning "law and order" mentality that shackles local, state, and the Fed to wasting millions upon untold millions on keeping a dollars flowing to private prisons, attorneys, and a seizure plan that allows looting of the public coffers and skimming directly from human misery, and we have some issues still to deal with at home, and yet, folks seem bent on getting us involved in every conflict across the globe, and then cry and wail when someone suggests something that WON'T get a lot of folks killed, and wail when the President might actually take a firm line. Then again, it does go back to the idea that mental health care is in serious jeopardy in this nation, and sadly, more than a few of our legislators, despite being well covered at this point for such care, they won't avail themselves to it, and their families are loathe to get them committed to save not just themselves, but the nation that they imperil....

And this is why the reasonable leaders from each party will make sure that the extremists on the GOP side will not succeed or if they do, they will be punished.

It is kind of like how the stock market is now driven by quarterly gains and not any reasonable look at the economic future and a roadmap of sustainability.  If you look behind the curtain, it is the same 'job creators' pushing both ideas.

Who the hell is BOB?

fsud: sprawl15: somedude210: As a government employee who already suffered furloughs this summer, fark you TeaTards. You have done nothing to improve this country and done everything to destroy it. I've got bills to pay and you're not helping matters

Trolling I see... well, you got some bites. Carry on.

Graffito: Ned Stark: Weaver95: I have conservative friends who still cannot accept that they've lost this fight. They refuse to accept that Obama won.

In what sense did conservatives lose? Their opponents adopted heritage foundation insanity as their health plan and then ran it across the goal line. Even now with only the house in their hands the most you can say is that conservatives probably wont be able to fark it up even more.

Liberals, uhhhh... didn't look as silly?

I agree with you yet the conservatives certainly act as if they've been pounded into the dirt and pissed upon.

It's like the chemical weapons in Syria.   Peacefully removing the weapons from Syria is about the best outcome the international community could hope, and we've got people biatching about how Putin somehow embarrassed the U.S. as if it would be better to risk soldiers lives and kill civilians just to make Putin look bad.

Considering that Syria is a Russian client-state, it has ALWAYS been up to the Russians to clean up that particular mess, too. That they've been dragging their feet on this for nearly two years isn't exactly a "embarrassing" the US. It is the usual hemming and hawing that the UN community has been doing for generations, and the clucking of tongues, and hoping that someone(else) will do something that none of them have the courage or wherewithal to do themselves. Getting the Russians to finally address the issue, by forcing it with the potential to have said client-state bombed to sh*t while there is a civil war on, possibly destabilizing a fairly delicate dance to keep their boy in power so that their contractors and business interests will be firmly protected, that was not a pretty bit of theater, but it worked.  And all the while, that the supposed foreign policy geniuses who KNOW we have NO legitimate interests in the region were trying to come up with reasons that ANY action we took would make this President look weak. The entire hue and cry on this crisis was nothing but shameless opportunism, and it only made the GOP look even weaker and more shrill, while trying desperately to look "most punkest!" at the same time.

When I was bouncing, it was always the guy who talked the loudest, screamed the most, boasted the most, and derided everyone who curled up like CheezDoodle when things actually got to the point where action was required. At this point, the shrillness telegraphs a huge amount of what these folks actually have in the tank for a real fight. And afterwards, these loudmouths were the first to blame ANYONE else for their performance, and at this point, the parallels are far too similar for me to have much respect for the endless stream of armchair quarterbacks....

Aristocles: Derwood: Defeating the GOP on this front is bigger than just the ACA.

If they set a precedent where they can just defund any law they don't happen to like, then no law is sacred. They can use the budget to punish their political enemies for passing laws they disagree with.

Our government is broken beyond repair

The bolded bit above is correct. No law is sacred.

Well, except for the right to keep and bear arms... amirite?
