That 1ms ping is pretty suspicious if you are going to do farkery with the IP stack to fake it. At least make it 25ms.

No fakery involved.  EPB is actually that good.

15 furlongs per fortnight?  Are my carrier pigeons walking to the server?

Five miles North of Boston. I'm a little pissed at Verizon because even though I'm only two blocks away from a Verizon retail store advertising the availability of Fios, my street (or house) isn't wired for it. I'd love to drop Comcast totally.

DrPainMD: I access the web with a dial-up connection and a Hayes 300 bps modem, so I'm getting a kick...

I had one of those! First modem had to put the phone headset into a coupler.

Lawn, etc..

The guy from Netflix said Canada had worse internet capability than some third world countries, and he's right.

Comcast is rolling out some 100mbit Commercial stuff I'm probably going to pick up on.  Something like $100/mo.

We have an IT shop and I do some data replication for our VM's.  I could actually use the speed.  At home I would probably be ok with the 20d/5u we have have around here.

How about slowest?

Santa Rosa, CA. My bonded DSL connection through shows 29.757/2.08 to the modem & 23.53/1.69 over wifi while streaming the Packers-Bengals game. It's truly more bandwidth I need or ever use. Honestly, half of this would probably be sufficient.

Well since I'm at work and sitting on two OC-192s speeds as fast as I can click something. Speed test pegged on 100mb...I'll test later when I get home.

Bullshiat. They best you could do is 5 ms. Maybe even 3 ms. Anything else is local or metro area network. It doesn't matter how MUCH you can move in data you can't speed up light.

Let's see a test with some distance.
2013-09-22 03:07:36 PM

Ping's the big thing, but when I plug in instead of wifi I've seen this test glitch out and say my DL got over 120Mb/s

This is rapidly becoming a "who's got the slowest connection" thread.

I remember my first cable modem.  1998, Venice, FL.  I think it was Cox Cable.  Speedtest didn't exist, but I remember downloading the newest build of Netscape Navigator, and when the download topped 1 Mb/s, I believe I actually came.

Does the computer matter? I'm on a Dell my Dad bought in 2009. I'm savvy enough to keep the software serviceable but there's no accounting for hardware.

2013-09-22 03:15:27 PM

Speed isn't extraordinary, but I'm only paying $39/mo for it plus unlimited phone service.

/It pays to raise hell when the sales guy lies to you and you have proof.

I pull maybe 2.68 down with Centurylink in north Seattle. Glad to see I'm not the slowest on the board. It's only a problem streaming full movies on Netflix where it seems to go into buffer mode towards the end. It seems if you get less than 5Mbps you're better off torrenting content.

Pretty soon I'll be done downloading the Doom demo I started in 1994...  can't wait!

Just switched to my Sprint Mobile Hotspot with 4G Speed(TM).  Let's see if their claims of quick internet hold any water:

On wifi, but that's pretty much the speed of the open line (fios).

Sprint 3G, Salt Lake City

76kbps up, 167kbps down

I win, you all can suck it.
