This text is now purple: sirbissel: Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: Met a girl this week with three small kids. Names were Nirvana, Teegan, and Bronx. No, I'm not kidding.

My kid's name is Tegan..

So what's it like being a stripper?

I'm not really sure why I'd know; I think women (and men, really) would pay me more to keep my clothes on.

MemeSlave: sirbissel: Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: sirbissel: eas81: Tegan Preslay

That's Teagan-- and by the time that'd make any difference, she'll probably be out of the business anyway. (And really, if you stopped naming kids after porn stars, we'd have to drop Rachel, Kelly, Naomi, Ava, Megan, Angelina, Nina, Sarah, Jenny, Katie, Nicole, Amy, Kimberly, April, etc...)

Teagan is a really horrible, trendy name to name your kid. It's not going to age well.

It's better than Jovanka ;) And it's Tegan. And I'm not really seeing how it's particularly trendy: The internet says it broke into the top 1,000 names in 1999, and as of 2007 there were a good 400 more popular names, and it's not especially new since there've been "Tegan"s since at least the 1850s.

Tegan is a trailer trash name.  It's trying to be cool and original and failing.   Christ, what's wrong with Sally or Mary or Jane ?

I think my wife would object to naming our kid after ex-girlfriends, for one...

Babbs: Does anyone else think it's weird that Walt's wife name is Skyler? I mean, she's in her 40's. Nobody in their 40's is named "Skyler". It just doesn't suit the character. It just has bugged me from day one. Oh, and I really need a life.

Agreed. It does not sit well with me.

ZeroCorpse: If I meet one more little kid named "Conner" or "Logan", I'll scream.

After farking Highlander and X-Men came out in theaters, I swear you could ONLY find boys with those names. I suppose I should be glad Ororo didn't catch on.

DO NOT name kids after comic book, scifi, fantasy, movie, anime, or video game characters. Avoid oddball celebrity names, too. I don't want my future stepson to come home with a girl named Sookie, Khloe, or Samus, dammit.

My brat's (13y/o now) name is Logan Xavier.

He likes it...thank goodness, but I freely admit that I had him at 19 and I was a huge X Men fan when I was in high school. He's lucky he wasn't a girl, it would have been Rogue. :/

Babbs:

Now THAT'S funny. My daughter is threatening to name her son that she may or may not have someday Atticus. While it's honorable because it's after the character in the book, I just can't see me yelling to my grandson on the playground "Atticus, stop throwing sand at the other kids!"

One of my kids was preschool buddies with a boy named Atticus. There was also a Seamus, Zion and Elisha. It seemed like all the girls were named MacKenzie, Madison, Addison, Teagan & Emma.

There was one girl was named Emmaline. My youngest had a hearing issue in preschool and thought the girl's named was LemonLime. The poor girl's parents heard my daughter calling their daughter that and thought it so hilarious that they starting calling her LemonLime.

Jayden in Florida? Oh yeah, because they're black.

She'd be in her 40s.

If, you know, she wasn't a fictional character.

Astra: I remember there was an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation in the early 1990s where Data was using the assumed name of Jaden. I thought it sounded rather nice for a made up name. The first real use of it I know of was Will Smith's kid. Now they're everywhere.

First time I met a kid named Jaden was some urban hillbilly's kid down the street.  First thing I thought was, "Wow- are the parents Star Trek fans?"

Now, I'll admit that my sons are named Thom (after a character in a somewhat obscure fantasy series) and Jacob (no, not THAT Jacob). But my brother's twins are named Braden and Kendall.

Of course our sister, she married into an Irish family and has an Erin, Ryan, Megan and Dillon.

The little woman wanted to name our daughter Sofia but I vetoed that so we settled on Rebecca.

So glad I didn't give in with Sofia.

The kid likes her name and there aren't 2 or 3 other girls in her class with the same name every year.

I swear everyone is naming their girls Sophia these days, I know like 5 families with a Sophia. It's going to be the "Ashley" for the 2000's.

Love, love, love Rebecca.  It's a classic name.  Unique but familiar.  We named our girls Cecelia and Penelope.  The worst you could accuse us of is giving them grandma names.  :)

I know 2 kids named maverick. They agree from completely incorrect families, one is a boy and the other a girl. I thought I was being unique naming my daughter Aria. guess I was wrong.

I am surprised Brooklyn/Brooklin/Brookelynne is not on the list. I know 3 babies under 3 mos of age with that name. I wouldn't be surprised to see it on next years list.

/I like the name Tegan
//what do I know, my girls are Cassidy and Cricket
