Hmm. 1.3 (assuming metric) tons over 30 suitcases.

That's roughly 87 pounds per checked bag.

My god. The overage fees.

The horror. The horror.

What a stupid idea.  Seriously, did they really think that nobody was going to check on dozens of mysterious bags registered to no passengers?  What, somebody in France, who wasn't on the flight, was going to show up to claim these mystery bags?  I can't really envision something like that EVER working out.

You're assuming they didn't have baggage handlers on the payroll on both ends.  What probably happened was the flight's cargo was audited unexpectedly.

I'd be more concerned that somehow somebody was able to get that much unregistered baggage on a plane and still have it take off. I've seen bags removed from the hold if somebody didn't get on the flight after checking something. 1.3 tons is a lot of explosives or other HAZMAT. At least this time it was just cocaine.

It was literally a tonne of cocaine.

The French police reported finding a ton of cocaine.

That's over a thousand pounds of cocaine.

Yes, 250 kg of cocaine--they scarcely had room enough in the evidence room for all of those 2 pound "kilo" bags, all 200 of them.

P.S. Given the constant problems that journalists and Americans have with Metric to Imperial and American conversions, I think this freshens the old Fark Meme nicely.

That's a lot of coke to get taken away.  Someone's going to lose their job over this.

I guess some guys are going to be lined up for mortar practice ala Kim Jong-un.

Gee, packing up a load of stuff on an airliner for 9/11. I know the French think 9/11 was an inside job, but airport people are going to be a little more attentive on that date just the same.

2013-09-22 12:13:31 PM
How does this not go right up to the pilots?  A ton of weight is going to make a huge difference when flying.

Yes, and if I am correct the severance pay works a bit differently in Venezuela.

Agreed.  You can't just sneak stuff past French customs, even on a normal day.

As I understand it, there's a hole in the wall where the men can see it all.

And those fees were probably not paid.
FTA; "to see if any criminal activity took place", well, duuhh, avoiding fees is serious chit deserving of the fullest extent of the zero tolerance law.
What is this world coming to??
Probably an everyday occurrence.

Only need 1-2 pounds of C4 for a completely satisfying experience.
But, why would you blow up your own cocaine?
Hhmm, we'll ask the CIA, they know all about blowing up your own chit.

Are you talking about Air America and the illegal drug pipeline in Southeast Asia, the story about the US government funneling drugs into the US and causing the crack/cocaine problem in the ghettoes, or how PanAm103 was due to the CIA's attempts to solve the Iranian hostage situation and the Sandinistas with drug money?

Saw this this morning, and I thought for 30 suitcases full of drugs taken by the police, it's a big time inside job and probably more than a few workers at CDG airport are either gonna get arrested or go missing.

I would have the police do the pick up.
Neat, discreet, for the WIN.

Willie said it plain. These days, though, Politics, Banking or Drugs, the best and brightest have had time to move in where the money is.

You know, what with search and seizure in this century, the cops are going to be increasingly financially rewarded for certain behavior.
How do you expect this to play out?
