(Seattle Times)   As you drink your bloody mary while contemplating your bets for the day, it's worth noting that the spread for the Seahawks-Jaguars game is among the 10th largest in NFL history   (seattletimes.com) divider line 15

The weather is going to be very stormy, so that will effect the score and the point spread.

I'll still take the Seahawks

Seattle 84
JAX 6

It always seems like that its 84-6.

/THAT had better not be obscure!

What the hell does "among the 10th largest" mean? Is it the 10th largest? Is it tied for 10th largest? Maybe TFA explains but it doesn't open on my mobile.

/I would probably take the Jags, but more likely I wouldn't bet a game with a line that high

Interesting thing about the spread that, until recently, I really didn't understand (maybe this is super-old news to most of you):

It is not an estimate of "how much will Team A beat Team B by".

It is an estimate of "what does that number have to be to get 50% of the people to bet for one side, 50% for the other.  The house gets a cut either way, so the best thing to do is get it to that 50/50 split, so payouts cancel themselves out no matter which team wins.

So it's more about what the house thinks people think about the teams, than what the house actually thinks of the teams.

One of two smart things Colin Cowherd has ever said was "Never bet on the NFL; you're never going to come out ahead in the long run, because the game is just too hard to predict.  If you're going to bet regularly, bet on college."

I would laugh so hard if the Jags got a win, moreso if it was a last-second field goal.

I wanna be that fly on the wall at a sports book when they kick that last second field goal just to cover.

That may be but if you start watching the wins and losses and the line it's pretty damn accurate

I would laugh harder if it was a hail mary

The Seahawks have something like a 13-0 or 14-0 streak at home against the spread. Or maybe it's overall against the spread. They haven't lost by more than a TD in a season and a half.
