He should set up an account to donate funds based on liking a Facebook status. That seems to work pretty well.

Wow.  All the non-marketing Farkers have crawled out of the woodwork (your call on whether being called non-marketing is an insult, cuz really, it could either way)

By setting up his donation on contingency, Mr. Nike has given Oregon a huge marketing tool when they start having all their minimum wage college students start calling up all the alumni and other potential donors.  "Hey, if we can raise $500 million, we'll get another $500 million.  Won't you please help us reach our goal?"  And because people will see their dollars being not only good, cuz hey, who likes cancer, but they'll also see it as part of getting a huge donation on top of their little donation.

I suspect Oregon will have no problem at all getting their half of the money.  In fact, I'll go so far as to say they might very well get to the $1 billion before Mr Nike pitches in.  I also suspect, based on Mr. Nike's previous actions, he'll end up giving the school more than what he promised when it happens.
