I'm sure the drugs that were found were a tangential issue.

he couple would go into stores and find something for sale in a large box, such as a car seat. They would then empty out the box, fill it with graphing calculators and check out, paying only the price listed on the box.

That's a *really* old trick. Though I find it hard to believe anything worth $130 wasn't locked in a cabinet.

It's spelled MORMONS.

Jokes on them when the calculators ended up being HPs set up for Reverse Polish Notation and they couldn't even figure out how to add two numbers together.

Used to have that trick when people would buy multiple trash cans or bins and put them between the stacks.  Clever, but I always double checked.

Looks like they tried to divide by zero.

And yet, in Utah this is considered an "elaborate theft scheme."

How has TI been charging the same price for a decade on the graphing calcs?

I understand why they would steal, they're apparently too poor to afford names. I guess it's against some sort of liberturd media policy to print criminals' names in the newspaper. The Trib always saw itself as the New York Times of the Wasatch Front. They're both only and equally good for lining bird cages.

This. I remember people bragging about this trick in high school back in the 80s.

I can't believe security didn't see them doing it though, it seems like it would be pretty obvious if someone is pulling a large item like a car seat out of the box and leaving it set there. I knew someone who would go to Walmart and pick up small expensive items like that, then go into the outdoor section of the garden department, which is typically only surrounded by a chain link fence, and shove them under the fence to be picked up when they left. They got away with it a few times but like all criminals, eventually got busted.

is it not farking remarkable? PC manufacturers could put out one good basic model at a good basic price for families who can't afford the latest and greatest. but NOOOOOOOO, it's more fun making everyone max out their farking charge cards for higher speed and memory the size the mars. heaven forbid a car manufacturer gets smart and puts out one dependable model year after year like VW did long ago with the Beetle/Bug. affordable transportation for the masses? screw that!

Yet people will keep on paying for the luxuries. Why in the world would they put out something for less when they can charge more so long as people will pay what they ask? The iPhone laughs at the concept. So does Nike. And a million other companies. No one's forcing anyone to buy anything, yet people keep on spending.

This ftfa confuses me.

When the couple got out of jail in Ogden, Salt Lake City police called them. Officers told the couple that the stuff they left at the hotel was at a police station and invited them to come down to get the goods.

Was the fact the stuff was confiscated from their hotel room while they were arrested for theft not conclusive enough evidence that they were the ones who stole it?  Why were they let out of jail at all when they could have taken the opportunity to try to disappear?

Do any of the Tolerant Farkers here realize there is a considerable portion of the population that identify with the PMITA activity as a pleasurable thing as an accepted part of their life together as sexual partners and that this continued negative connotation associated with the act is disparaging to many Farkers here.

I believe the "PMITA" reference is pretty much taken to mean rape of the anal nature.
While in prison it may be an accepted part of life, I do not believe it is pleasurable.
I really don't see this as disparaging to anyone.
I do think it is an overused meme however.

That's the thing, you see. The education system needs graphing calculators that are sufficiently crappy so that they can't be easily used to cheat on tests. They can't allow smartphones and such to do the same thing.

2013-09-22 11:40:35 AM
If they Integrated the calculators into drug sales, their profits could have reached undefined levels.
