Ostrofsky claims he was nailed for doing 49 mph in a 25 mph zone in late August, but when he was cited the officer only wrote him a ticket for going 34 mph.

So, the cop cut you some slack, and you're pissed?  In Okla, 15mph over is reckless driving.

"I don't speed in that car. No way," Ostrofsky said.

How the hell can you not?  I call BS.  They might not have been targeting you before, but I bet they are now.

My family vacationed in Aspen and Snowmass from 1970 to 1996.  What started out as a great little town quickly became pretentious and over priced.

My family has a picture of me in a lodge at age 3 asking the band to play Bobby Mcghee, and the band taking me on stage and me sitting in the lap of the singer while she sang it to me.

I hit Ajax at age 12, and never looked back.

Age 14 I met Golden Hawn, Barbara Mandrell, Neil Diamond, and Sidney Poitier, all incredibly nice people.

1993 Chuck Norris bought me and my fiance a drink, Gregg Allman gave me vip passes to the opening of planet hollywood, and Hunter S Thompson shook my hand on main street.

In 1996 a buddy and I went and a dude tried to sell as 200 dollar quarter of weed, we were told in a bar that our kind would perhaps do better in the local service industry hangouts, and Budweiser was ten dollars a bottle.

fark Aspen.

I had a souped-up hotrod when I lived in California.  I got pulled over in my small town constantly.  Finally, I wouldn't go above second gear until I left city limits.  True actual story.

I call shenanigans on the red sports car myth. I drove a little red car (though granted, not a Ferrari) for over a decade, and the very few times I got pulled over, I absolutely deserved it. And the time the cop wrote me for far less than I was doing (which was really way too fast) I said, "Thank you very much, have a nice day!" and paid the sucker because I earned the ticket. And I'm not douchey like that, and had no need to be at the gym any time soon.

I remember back in the day in St. Louis they had a thriving industry in plea bargaining tickets.  If you got a ticket, you'd go to a lawyer, pay them some dough, they'd handle it and you'd pay a ticket for 'excessive muffler noise' or some similar offense and get no points.  Not sure if they do that anymore or not.

I used to drive a 1st gen Honda Insight and I could get away with murder with that car.  I had cars pulled over in front of and behind me on a regular basis.  I don't think cops wanted to testify that a car with 68 horsepower was speeding.

To be fair, Highway 82 into Aspen has a big stretch of road where the speed limit is set according to morning and evening commuter traffic, but not at all appropriate during the rest of the day. It goes to 25 where you'd expect to be doing at least 40 based on traffic and visibility and such.

Anecdotal, but I used to use a bright red Ducati motorcycle as my daily commuter / do-all.  Got pulled over once or twice a month.

After six months or so, gave it a matte black paint job.  Only pulled over once in the remaining three years I rode it daily.  No change to my riding behavior, good or bad.

Yep. I passed a trooper this morning going 75-80 on a SoCal freeway in my monster silver Miata (he was merging onto the freewy; I was in the far left lane). They let you go here unless you are acting like an idiot. Drive some Furiously Lowered Acura/Civic like a moran and you'll get pulled over. They are hazards often, anyways, passing with no signal on the right, etc.

This summer, I drove from California to Virginia to Florida, back to Virginia, then home to California, and routinely exceeded, significantly, the speed limit, but I always signaled lane changes and I stayed the fark out of the left lane except for passing. No heat from Johnny Law, ever. Mountains were very fun.

arjayct: "Millionaire Ferrari owner"? Is there another kind? Like, I don't know, "Broke-ass Ferrari owner"?

My sis-in-law has a worthless sister who used to date a guy who was the very definition of southern Ohio white trash.  I went to a wedding and got stuck talking to this kid for three hours.  He had managed to scrape together $15K as a carpet layer and he bought a 1984 Ferrari Mondial back in 2000.

Predictably, the car needed work.  He couldn't afford to have an authorized Ferrari mechanic work on it so he had another idiot mechanic doing the work. I think he was spending $9,000 a year just to keep it running.

If there's a broke-ass Ferrari owner, it's anyone who owns a Mondial.

ITT: Butthurt corolla drivers.

Yes, many rich people are douchebags, many are also not.

/You are not the car you drive.

r1niceboy: abhorrent1: If they're targeting red sports cars, by a blue one. Problem solved.

/A red Ferrari is cliche anyway

Ferraris that aren't red tend to look a lot like Toyota MR2s whose owners are trying too hard. It needs to be red, just like a fast Aston Martin needs to be British racing green.

I dunno. I saw a yellow one at a car show that was pretty awesome.

another cultural observer: Mark Ratner: big pig peaches: So a rich white guy gets harassed by the cops and suddenly everyone is all pro-cop. I'll bet if it was some poor black guy in a Ferrari getting pulled over, you'd all be screaming "PROFILING".

You make me sick.

2/10

Envy issues, any?

I think the last time I got a ticket that wasn't a "Fix-It" Ticket. (Registration, License plate light) was back in 2011 when I got ticketed for doing a burnout in a parking lot.

/Farking cop gave me street racing on a public highway
//Lawyer could only knock it down to reckless driving

thisisyourbrainonFark: What stretch are you talking about?

After the roundabout, going upvalley. I guess it's 35 most of the way into town (which feels odd after the airport, going from 55 to 35 on a big, open stretch of four lane highway) but yeah, I remember the 25 sign coming up way earlier than I ever thought necessary.

But it's been a few years since I made that drive regularly, as work no longer takes me to Aspen, so I could be off my rocker, I suppose.

res_nihil: He should get a Maseratti.  I hear they go 185.

In Germany they go 210.

seelorq: namegoeshere: I call shenanigans on the red sports car myth.

Oh, please tell us. Was your "little red car" a Fiero? A Fiesta? A Firebird? A Firenza?

God, it was a Civic, wasn't it?

Hah! None of the above. Although I did have a Fiero for a couple of years in college. That was a few inches above street luge, that was. I think my first BigWheel would have been better protection in a crash.

radioshack: thisdaydreamer: My heart just shatters when I think about the horrors this poor guy has to live with on a daily basis. Such hardship. Such injustice.

Yeah, he can kiss my Corrolla-driving ass.

Haha you're jealous.

I know I am!

Man if I had a Ferrari I could sell it and get so many nice things.
